@willich123 Yes, she is sewing the tapes on the paper. It's called couching and different types of lace use either "tapes", as seen above, or thick threads. These are stitched in place over the basic pattern - usually there is a piece of fabric behind the paper pattern as well. Then the lace maker stitches the in between these with types of button hole stiches. @34 sec you can see where there is just the tape and where she has added stitches. There is a great close up of @39. -next post-
Continued... Once all the tapes have been stitched together the completed lace is cut from the patter by clipping the couching threads; sen @1.12 min. The lace can then be added to something else or as shown @.53sec sew to another lace panel for a larger effect.
These patterns a likely passed down for generations. but today you can buy books of patterns and just copy them. Patterns mostly tell you where to lay the couching. The lacemaker picks the stitches for filling in & embellishing
@willich123 You sew a double stitch to the paper and then do multiple different stitches around those to secure them (these stitches are not sewn to the paper). I'm just starting out so I don't know the correct terms yet. Still learning. :)
