Also, how the hell do people think this singer sounds exactly like Mikael? I just don't hear it at all. The only known singer that this guys voice reminds me of is MAYBE Devin Townsend, a little. Saying he sounds like Mikael is really confusing to me, because Mikael's clean singing is very soft, almost flat ( this isn't meant as an insult); whereas this guy has sort of a power metal type of emotionality to his singing, the tone is completely different from Mikael's.

Lets stop comparing Axe and Akesson and Lopez and Lindgren. All 4 are phenomenal musicians and they all have their own style. I personally have had no trouble listening to all Opeth albums...there is a difference before and post those departures, but i still love all of them on their own merit...Heritage...the jury is till out on that one!

The drums need to be brought up in the mix or the guitars need to go back a little. Either way I can't hear the drums well enough.

I think Akesson is a superior guitarist, and while I like Lopez's work with Opeth more, I think that Axe proved his worth on Heritage. Despite being an album that not everybody liked, I think the drumming really stood out above the rest of the album, and was actually one of the best Opeth drumming albums to date.

@Bassbait I couldn't agree more about that I didn't enjoy heritage that much, but I have to agree that Axe really step up his drumming on that album. Still, I miss Lopez playing in Opeth, but it is nice to hear his playing again with Soen. Also, their album is coming out on February 15!!!

I don't know why people think this guy sounds like Akerfelt. Sounds more like a maynard type to me. I think people only get that because of the Lopez connection. Then again, that's just what I hear. A little of both I guess.

10 times of what? Akesson is very capable and seems he can play anything, but it's pretty clear that Lindgren had more creative input on the songs that we all thought before. Lindgren is/was a HUGE part in what filled out Opeth's sound. Ever since he left there is clearly a hole in the writing.

@fohf While I am a bigger fan of Peter Lindgren myself, he actually had very little to do with the writing progress. He helped write some of the music on the first two albums, but it was largely Akerfeltd. Mikael has been the primary songwriter for pretty much all of Opeth's albums.

@Opeth312 amen brother, he is one of my drumming inspirations, and is just full of too much talent to stop playing altogether, which in turn sucks that he had to leave Opeth because he was their true drummer. But Akerfeldt is right, Opeth can't just stop, they needed a replacement, now they have him in Axe, who is great in his own right as well.

That being said, this is fucking outstanding stuff and Lopez is an amazing drummer.
