  • Deantoni Parks is their best drummer yet.

  • @YertlePsychoStain Agreed.

  • new album come on baby!!!!!!

  • Said song in question has been uploaded from a Moscow show the Wednesday before Sonisphere and it's been named 'Jewel'?!

  • It wasn't 'Goliath' (Which was slower, more than likely, because they only have 1 guitarist now so had to re-work the song so made it more like Rapid Fire Tollbooth from one of Omar's solo albums) The 20minute song, probably was a new song with a bit of improvisation for live purposes, that's just what they do. Sounded INCREDIBLE though whatever it was called!!!!

  • This song is fucking awesome!

  • That 20 minute song that they did, is that actually a song or was that just them jamming for 20 minutes? I'm not particularly clued up on The Mars Volta, but thought they were pretty awesome at Sonisphere!

  • @Bubblezbigd : If it's what I think it was then it was "Goliath" from "The Bedlam in Goliath" but it was slowed down like half speed which is why it went on so long >___< They recorded it with a different drummer who was insanely good and I don't think they can do it live without him XD Amazing performance though, was working bar so got to watch perfectly :D

  • @outliveyouall Their current drummer is just as good and arguably, in many aspects, better.

  • @trashmyego Fair enough, I just haven't heard much example of that. It's probably just due to the workshops I've seen Pidgeon do show even the stuff he was doing for TMV wasn't the full extent of his ability. I don't see why they chose to do the slower version then if he could have played the proper speed version, especially at a festival like Sonisphere. Don't get me wrong I was MORE than happy to see them, I consider it one of the best things of Sonisphere ^___^

  • @outliveyouall Have you not seen any footage of him playing with Omar's solo adventures? He could play the song any which way needed. I'm certain the reason for the alteration is the set-up. They're essentially down three members from when that song was written. No wind, no percussion, no Ikey. It resembles it's original incarnation, Rapid Fire Tollbooth as mf0u3021 said. After firing Pridgen they were playing the song with their fill-ins, same tempo, just the patterns and rhythms were thinned.

  • @outliveyouall And yes, Pridgen is impressive in workshops, but he was boring to listen to live with The Mars Volta. He was always out front, always at the same level, always at the head of the music instead of being the heart of it. There was no subtlety to it, no sense of touch or character. Same with the records he's on, it's just flat, yet impressive, drumming. He needs time to grow, because nothing I've heard of him feels like he's part of a whole instead of standing in front of it.

  • @trashmyego : Well pretty much most of that would have been up to Omar to be honest with you and feeling a touch of character is quite subjective to your interpretation of what that persons character is or what you consider character. For example Buckethead is often called emotionless but that is actually intentional within his music and is emotive through a lack of emotion. Also Once again I don't know how much of the drumming he will have actually written himself or Omar will have written :/

  • @trashmyego i STRONGLY agree.... first time i hear pridgen i was BLOWN away... now the more i hear him the less im impressed... he's literally been doing the SAME thing for the past 5 years.... and i can not STAND his band the Memorials....

  • @trashmyego two words for pridgeon : no dynamics.
