I am from Nepal. And in my culture howling refers to bad omen. We believe they produce such kinds of crying type bark when something goes really wrong in their surrounding. They reflects the nature in their own terms.
his grandma was a timber wolf from Colorado. I love wolf dogs and to me their howling expresses joy and he just loves it...he was howling up a storm last night while we were playing and having fun. Nothing wrong, no bad omen.
@niphasa As in my culture in Vietnam, when they dog barks or howls it means someone they don't know is coming to the house, and Intruder or something is wrong. My GS is going to be trained not to howl when he wants something but only when something is wrong, if he wants something he usually drags me by my shirt or gentle nips on my finger to follow.
My GSD never howls when I howl without accompaniment, but he almost always howls when I howl when fire trucks/ambulances drive past my place with their sirens blaring. About half the time he howls alone to fire trucks/ambulances. I live next to a big convalescent home and sirens are a frequent occurrence. He didn't howl to this vid, even with me howling too. He never howls to any youtube vids, but he does go insane at a certain warning beep on my computer. *shrugs*
I have another video where he's howling pretty good once he gets going. We used to live near a fire station in Colorado, and he'd be in the back yard howling his head off until they were out of range. Thanks for the comment!
