No explicit reference to a sexual relationship" What about Charles' comment that the 'naughtiness' of their relationship was high in the category of grave sins"?
Granada should be congratulated for this wonderfully exact film version of the book. It puts me in mind of their Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett in the 80's and 90's....... the same attention to detail in faithfully rendering the written work to film.
At six minutes, Sebastian genuflects properly (down on the right knee, for God), and Charles goes down on his left knee, which is for earthly kings, not God.
@DrZenith- Catholic niceties? Are"nt they religious niceties?I agree with your assessment of the Sherlock Holmes (and add the other series-Poirot and Miss Marple).
An interesting depiction of Oxford life, circa. 1999.

Sorry: 'category' should be 'catalogue'. Remember Cousin Jasper's warning about Anglo-Catholics as sodomites.

A brief summer spell of what he had never known "...naughtiness high in the catalog of grave sins." Did you pick up on that subtle line?

@MegaFunMovies not very subtle, though it could be referring to a lot of different things

He makes a beautiful Sign of the Cross though.

@DrZenith I could not agree more. Both this and the Jeremy Brett series were wonderful. Such a joy to watch.

There is another curious thing about that same scene:
"Well you needn't on my account", (Sebastian, when Charles explains why he genuflects) could be an interesting topic for discussion.

Nice touch - if it was deliberately done.

@LitCrit101 It displays Charles` unfamiliarity with religious niceties.

@holmsatlarge Perhaps it's more a question of Charles' unfamiliarity with Catholic niceties......

Sure it is...

@LitCrit101 Given the extraordinary detail and care lavished on the production, I'm sure it was done deliberately.
