My alarm clock is set to play Pellonpekko when it's time to get up in the morning for me. Frankly, I don't usually have bad days at all... quite wierd, but true. Way to go Korpiklaani! From Hungary, Budapest.
Oh my god, I've just realized that I watching and hearing Korpiklaani songs for 6 hours now... I sit front of the computer from about 21:15 pm and it's 3:20 am now.
@WRBaffler I found it on Songsterr. There's an instrument drop-down menu where you can find the two violin tracks. It's written in tab notation, but I hope it's useful anyway. ^_^
Pellonpekko (Field Pekko) was ancient Finnish pagan god of grain, growth and of course... beer. For me it's the most important god, he's all about fun and life, like Greeks' Dionysos. This song pictures it perfectly. Thanks Korpiklaani and the gods!
Every time i listen to korpiklaani, i would like to go out of my door, grab a rifle and skiis and head to forest to just make fire and spend time in there
God of the harvest. "Pellonpekko jyvät antoi" or something like that with Mikael Agricola's berating of the people that are "possessed to believe in such things." seen them in Edmonton a few years back. I have never seen a band so eager to play and smile and please the crowd. BEST live show I have ever seen. I would love to see them at an open-air show
@awesomeakki17 il tell you why that is, back in the days of the viking's conquest they actually owned Ireland and Scotland for over 100 years, enough to heavily influence celtic culture. Celtic music is heavily influenced by Scandinavian music.
@BurianAttila Noo!! Not Celtic.. Scandinavians are a germanic people, and the finnish are an ugric people, wich is more related to hungarians and baltics than the germanic scandinavians, but being a part of Sweden for 900 years has pretty much absorbed the Finnish into Scandinavian culture, yet they still got their own languge. Concerning the Celts i agree with what "mortum000" wrote above.
Korpiklaani are the true folk metal band, because they started out as a folk band, and included metal later on. So they know what they're playing. A lot of other folk metal bands just try to imitate folk music.
Just saw them live Tuesday night. A lot of bands record well but suck live, not Korpiklaani. They were even better live! It was veritably impossible to stand still while listening.
im sitting here, drinking Sailor Jerrys before I go out (which, mixed with coke is the best drink ever) and thinking about how awesome these are gonna be at Bloodstock 2010!!!!!!!!!!!
@Rainfordmetallica- Got my ticket. They're pretty much the only reason I'm going to Bloodstock. Lots of other good bands, but without Korpiklaani it just wouldn't be worth it.
This is a hell of a good song. Too bad most of the rest of their music is all Industrial metal rip-off junk for a teenaged male audience full of "angst." You literally could take the choruses from each of their other songs and easily switch them up with no ill effects.
err.. dude... i dont know what the hell youre talking about! Korpiklaani is pretty much the exact opposite of all that. Most of their lyrics are about partying, booze and old Finnish folklore. And thei music is definately NOT industrial....
True, their music is not industrial. That was an exaggeration on my part. And their lyrics are just fine. What I really'd like to see them do is have more songs that have less "metal" and more "folk." They have so much talent, but sometimes their emphasis on the metal part almost drowns out their harmonies and melodies. "Running with the Wolves" is good too and I think a few more songs like that will show a different side of their talents.
I think Korpiklaani's got an amazing balance between the Folk and the metal. Their one of the folkiest folk metal bands out there, and i can see why your worried about them taking the metal too far because i love the folk melodies as much as anyone. but Kudos to Korpiklaani for not giving into the industrial path of mainstream metal!
@tehpwnzor789 I really like your comment, and I think Korpiklaani's a bit different from other folk metal bands because most of their songs are based in folk songs, finnish, and not on metal or double bass pedal.
@TheBeairdManCometh Yes it definitely was. That and Keep on Galloping, in which their producers pushed them into the whole voodoo thing for the music video. But overall their remaining pretty true and most of Karkelo wasnt mainstream by any means.
@Metaalhoofdje123 who said this is industrial?! wow! i like both genres and there is absolutley no similarities . korpiklaani is awesome, they kicked ass live.
