Nice video! Do you by chance got any tips on a screen that turns all black on a samsung captivate? All sounds turn on just a blank black screen thank you.
I will buy this phone tomorrow. It will probably come with 2.1 eclair. I want to upgrade it. The best way is via kies, isn't it? Should I upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3? Also, if I upgrade to 2.3 via kies, will I be able to root it and use superuser? Help please..
i just bought my galaxy s yesterday and i want to update it to 2.2 froyo..but when i try to update it with kies it says cant upgrade the firmware....so i want now to flash the firmware so i can update it but i was scared to brick my phone....if i wait a little longer will the official update be available on my phone?
HELP!!!! my phone was going to download mode with the three button thingie,, but after doing this its not working anymore,, when i press the buttons it doesnt go??? what should i do???
Hi Aeo087 , Thanks for the information, its really helful. However, not able to find part2. Can you send me a link.
Further more , since I am very new on this can you suggest me which firmware is latest and work well in Galaxy S . As one I have is JG4 , which has some Singtel (Local GSM) application loaded and I want to remove all and install fresh firmware.
Hi, it seems you are using the 513 pit file, but where the firmware download you refer to is listed on the samsung-firmwares sites they say we should use the 512 pit file. It seemed to work for you, still - what is the consequence of using the wrong pit file?
This shit scared me, first try it blocked midway at the yellow screen. Turned it of tried again and it didnt even start upgrading. Got really scared then but 3rd time worked like a charm! Seems snappier and the GPS seems better too!
Only bad thing is it doesnt changes back to dutch, its stuck on english. Not that i really mind it but still.
@TheSippler Back then it was really unknown which pit file to use with which firmware, most of the new firmwares only work with 512, this firmware worked well with 513.
My tmobile Samsung vibrant is sim locked, can i update firmware if sim is locked and also will updating the firmware unlock the phone from tmobile network?
@mduong09 I don't have any first hand experience with the Vibrant. I know the root process is exactly the same as the i9000 but not much more. I suggest you go to xda-developers forum and check out the vibrant's section, that'll be your best bet to find that information.
I recently flashed JG5 and did the SD lag fix, my phone is flying! I'm getting 1750+ on Quadrant, I'll post a video tonight. I might make a tutorial this weekend on how to do the SD lag fix.
hey mann i was just wondering what is the name of the widget at the top of ur home screen? The clock and weather thing above the search bar. does it come pre-installed on the phone or do u have to download it from the android market?
@totkrieg Well after trying many times and using the google machine I found that I had to use vol+ and vol- during booting... I am using a vibrant myself in the US
Am I correct in thinking that the phone thinks you're updating it with a official firmware and that I do not need to do anything before doing this procedure? i.e. can I perform this on a brand new Galaxy S that has not been tampered with in any way?
@Aonike These firmwares are from Samsung, since they are signed by Samsung, you do not need to be rooted to flash these firmwares. I'm not entirely sure if they are betas or release candidates, but they are from Samsung.... To answer your question directly, you do not need to do anything before doing flashing this firmware, you can flash your brand new Galaxy S right out of the box.
I got some feedback on the COM7, this will vary from computer to computer. The phone does seem to connect to different ports in your computer when you switch the USB ports, Odin seems to be picky about a particular one; Odin won't start flashing unless connected to the correct port in your computer. PLEASE COMMENT on your results, i'm interested to see what COM ports your phone connects to, and If you've been able to flash through two different ports, this will help clarify this issue
@aeo087 can you maybe post a video about using NANDROID and backing up everyting before starting to play arround with roms, and firmware flashing? (10x in advance..)
@MrR6rr I've used mybackup pro and Titanium backup. I use myBackup pro to backup my text messages, call logs, and settings, and I use titanium backup for the apps... With titanium backup, the apps get linked back to the market (you need to be rooted for this...).
@aeo087 what about backing up the firmware and all the initial settings before you start to use different roms, and alternative firmwares? if you want to be able to 'go back in time' to the initial setup, which method do you recommand for that purpose?
Thanks alot for the tutorial, very well done, good quality and simple explanation, i dont have my galaxy yet..its not out here, but as soon as i have it i know what to do :)
@aeo087 I have seen the manual operation on how to use Odin to flash to factory settings... but because I have a: PDA: M110s.DI03.1545 PHONE: M110S.DH09.2134.ST Can you give what .tar and .pit files do i have to put in ODIN: PIT: PDA: PHONE: CSC: this for a korean unit of anycall...I would love to get it back to factory settings, and start from there...root, etc...Thanx!
Thanks for the vid man. You made the scary process of flashing a kernel your the first time seem not nearly as formidable.

Not very smart to pull of your case and remove the sim and put it on again, knowing you have to pull it off again to put the sim back in..
