I heard this on the my car radio on a PBS station last week and now it's one of my favorite songs. It inspired me to find out something about Sam Cooke and I read a lengthy article about the circumstances of his death. His death was a tragedy but I'm grateful he left us such wonderful music. What a rare talent and incomparable voice!
i rap.but when i listen to sam i wish i could sing instead of rappin.wish i was born with a voice like him i would feel so good about myself.thats how i know no matter wat sam knew he was the shit wether u told him or not.
i play this video for my 89 y/o mother. it's from an era when traveling gospel groups sang at small Black churches and really brought on the spirit. God bless us all
A couple of corrections...Sam was born in ClarksDALE, MS, not Clarksville, and he died at the age of 33, not 32. Also, as someone below stated, per my research, he was murdered, not killed. Other than that, fine work on the video.
One of the greatest thrills of my life was having the Soul Sturrers be guests at my group's 25th Anniversary.Willie Rogers couldn't make it, so Gene Stewart came. When they sung this song, my sister, who leads this song for our group, sang the second verse and I bassed. When the song was over, they asked me to stay and bass the rest of the program. What an honor to sing J.J. Farley's part, the man who trained my Dad on bass singing when he was a youngster in the 50s. It was a dream come true.
I LOVE some Sam Cooke. My dad used to sing all his songs when I was little. Whenever I need a piece of home, I just listen to Sam Cooke. Songs were too short back then. :)
@RealBigR mines to realbigr...........do you now why she touced the hem of his garment........read malachi chapter 4 verse 2 and u will see why she touch the hem of Jesus garment.........shalom
i love this song because it is one of my favorite bible stories. BTW, sam cooke was not killed, he was murdered! killing is the accidential death of a person; MURDER is the intentional death of a person
I remember being a little boy getting ready to go to Sunday School and Momma would have the radio tuned to the only gospel station in town and this would play and the entire family would join in and sing. This brings back sooo many memories!
I always like to read the stories from those who knew the artistes. The songs were not done in a vacuum and when those who shared their space enlighten us, it is an added blessing. Thanks to all those who tell us their stories. The Soul Stirrers were classic and certainly did a number on this one. Oh, how nicely did thy tell this timeless story! Not only was Sam a super singer but he was also very smart. Take a look at the six-part series about his life and hear what Bobby Womack said.
Super fantastic! Now this is Southern Gospel, unlike the phony crap pumped out by multi-millionaire "TV Evangelist" during the last forty years! Thanks Sam; we miss you!
Thanks for posting and the video is great also.I love all of Sam Cooke's songs. My mom and I saw him and the Soul Stirrers and the Pilgrim Travelers at Mason Temple in Memphis,TN long ago when I was a child.
Thank you for posting this song. Sam Cooke was my late father's favorite singer, and he loved this song. I grew up listening to Sam Cooke, and this song brings back wonderful memories....Thank you, and God bless you!
My mom used to play this for me when people still listened to tapes! She would always record the same song about 3 or 4 times for continuous play! Awesome
@vidalmediainc John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." John 10:9 "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." several years ago I started collecting 78 rpm records. I remember the day fondly when I found a big stack of specialty 78's at the flea market for $10. I called my buddy up on the phone and we were ready to have a 78 party.
We played a 78 by a group called the SOul Stirers. (there was no mention of the name sam cooke, just the soul stirers. I remember going "Man, that sounds like Sam Cooke". we did a little research and learned the history of Cooke. Tragic story.
Classic by SAM COOKE the man was definitely a true talent that died unfortunately at a young age but his music will live forever... and his name will forever be engraved in history... If you don't know about him ask your grandmotha or grandfather..lol
I played guitar for a local gospel group for around 23 years and the man who stood to my right the whole time *he has since gone Home) often sang this with that smooth tenor of his ............ this embodies a lifetime of wonderful memories !
@priestfort Sam had NO EQUAL in any of his music....... His music is ageless, and loved by many, and when I go home to god, he will be the first person, I look For....... We have been blessed to have his music
Right before my mother began to lose her memory to Alzheimers and Leukemia, she picked up Sam's CD pointed to his face and said "I LOVE THAT MAN!!!!" Then, she gave him a BIG kiss on his face. The last person she ever knowingly said she loved. She is with him now, she died of severe Alzheimer;s and lost all her blood to leukemia. He is singing for her now!
My grandma loves this song by the Late great Mr. Cooke, She cries everytime I play it for her, and he makes me feels good to see my grandma crying tears of happiness through all that she is going through....I Love You NANA
great tribute!,,well done!!,,and yes he was the best singer that i know of and i have heard a few good ones!,,classic example of a person given a gift from GOD!!!AMEN!!!

Excellent video, Sam was one of the greatest singer songwriters ever. The story behind this song was he was traveling in a Limo with a record exec that was deciding whether or not to sign Sam. His manager said Ill tell you what if he can write a song before we reach our destination you'lle sign him. The exec said sure. Sam picked up a bible and read through it for about 5 minutes he then grabbed a pen and paper and wrote this song for the exec....
@TheEdh1970 How come this video won't go on Facebook? after I have the Google toolbar? how do I share this video, for my people and I need to hear this together, for some are weaker than others, and we that are strong can help talk on this subject of having so GREAT of FAITH?
@TheEdh1970 I didn't know this thanks for the history behind the song. My mom was a big Sam Cooke fan and just loved his music. I always knew about him but just now coming to really appreciate his music. It's ashame he lost his life at such a young age.
