  • Love this song from one of my favourite Dylan albums, Infidels.

Saw him on the tour for this album in Newcastle, England in 1984

  • This is actually one of his finest vocal performances, ever.

  • only dylan can be this sentimental and not maudlin. what a poet..what charisma.. a little ole fella from minnesota with a pocket full of songs, was and is the living king of popular music.

  • people need a life.Get out more.just a suggestion.

  • Carla Olson, late of the Textones. She's sitting in for Mick Taylor. And makes it believable. Takes talent, just to do that.

  • Bob makes me wanna sing loud even my voice sucks!!!!!!!

  • Some people got bad eyes or mouse to hit the dislike button, lol. I love this song and brilliant video, it puts my mind in peace. ❤

  • Mark Knopfler looks amazing as a blond!!!!

  • @mikeadelic

Dont get it, there is nog Mark Knopfler in the video?

  • @sebastiaankusters Jokes, my friend, jokes! It's Knopfler on the axe, just not in the vid. Should be able to tell, those chops are unmistakable!!

  • @sebastiaankusters and how 'bout this one. Google Bruce Hornsby, 'Across the River.' Recognize the guitar on that one?!?!

  • oh look Wolverine singing Dylan

  • Thank you for posting this gem. Sweet, beautiful music and video concept. Bob singing with heart and soul....and who, please, is the lady taking the guitar solo so sensitively and with such mastery?

  • i think i know all the great musics from Bob and i found it D:

  • stupid vevo ruining the best music with ads. This 12 sahll not be poisoned, and will know good music. BOB DYLAN!!!

  • Sigh... I'm listening to Bob Dylan on VEVO and all the adverts around me are about Kayne West and Jay-Z who are releasing a song with casual racism in the title. =(

  • yeah drown out the shit on the radio these days and turn this up

  • sweet bobby dylan!

  • Old Bob forgot to shave for this video. Looks like a hobo w/that scraggly facial hair. But seriously, I hear when he wrote & recorded the songs on the album (this song comes from) he was still in a state of shock from Harry Chapin's death. He was in the midst of recording this album when Harry lost his life back (via a tragic car accident) in 1981. It took him a long time to get over Chapin's death. He later shaved off his beard in honor of his fallen comrade/disciple Chapin. True story. Honest.

  • They say patriotism is the last refuge

    To which a scoundrel clings

Steal a little and they throw you in jail

Steal a lot and they make you a king

    Timeless lyrics!

  • @thebigmanadair You don't read too well...

  • The man writes and performs uniquely American music. Maybe it's all he's ever known, but that may be enough.

  • The best artist ever. I love Dylan.

  • Aaron Neville covered this song, but despite Aaron's vocal gifts....this is MUCH MORE SOULFUL

  • <3

  • This guy can't sing. (I is bein ironyhick an shit).

  • @shuddupeyaface fuck off. he's the greatest artist of all time. dont hate.

  • @frenchiebear101 he may be the greatest lyracist of all time...but surely others play and sing better...this is a GREAT SONG

  • Great song, gret album, one superb line after the other, and one cheesy video, but I still love it. Love Mark's and Mick's sound. Love the lighting on Bob's eyes, one thing I hate is the styled hair, you just don't do something like that to the untamed wilderness of Bobby's curls.

  • I have to say that this is one of Bob's most brilliant but most overlooked songs. I saw this clip on Friday Night Videos back in 1983 and went out the next morning and bought the cassette just for this song.

  • Is the blonde Carla Olson? Was she part of Dylan's band at this time or is it a one time thing?

  • Well, I doubt this video was filmed live. He definitely recorded the song and they made the video afterwards. His lips don't always sync up to what he's singing; from reading some books about this period, he had a rough time getting it right and it seems like they just filmed far away to smooth it over. Do you know what lip syncing means?

  • the lip syncing here isn't so great.

  • @sleepyduo37 lip syncing?...are you an idiot?

  • The only tolerable song on Infidels.

  • @MrRazorblade999 Yu don't like Jokerman? wow. And I love I and I

  • @bobbydylanio Its the production and arrangemant I can't stand on Infidels. Knopfler shouldn't be allowed to come near anything with quality. Jokerman would sound great on almost any other Dylan album.

  • it is a fantastic video, I watch it often to remind myself how great an artist he is, each time I watch I become more and more convinced that the 'sweetheart' cleaning lady is Dylan in drag! I also wonder if the other 'sweetheart' might be one of the the girls playing keyboard and who is in view longer than the others.......Desiree? (daughter)

  • It's aal good.

    This song is great.

Everything is cool, we''ll be fine.

  • I get sick when I see Rhainna or whatever on here next to a Legend Like Bob Dylan.

  • @EternalAngel318 Why? It's all music.Yes...her music and the rest of the popular music is not good.. but im sure others think it's great.Theres room for everyone and she's doing nothing wrong by making her music. Why do you think it's cool or fair to bring down other people just because you aren't a fan of the music they're into?Grow up.Everyone has a right to make music... bad or good.

  • Haven't heard this since '89 and it's the ONLY B.D. song I like. Actually, I love it.

  • Actually the guitar solo at the end is really Mick Taylor - but they got Carla Olson of the Textones to mime it for the video. She later recorded an album with Mick...

  • whats a sweetheart like you. Im glad to see on youtube like this.

  • This is dedicated to the searchers of love, Who look for love in all the wrong places !!!

  • Is that a ginger wig?

  • wat a man and his words can do.....

  • Who's the blond playing the solo at the end

  • fuckin masterpiece

  • they say vanity got the best of him but he sure left here in style.......the solo @ the end isn't mick taylor....it's me.......

  • maravilhosaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Mark Knopfler is playing the rhythm. Mick Taylor is playing the lead at the end.

  • Mr. Dylan you are the man. I have been a fan for many years . I hope to be for many years to come.

  • ...patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings..steal a little and they throw you in jail...steal a lot and they make you a king...

Truer words are hard to come by, Bob. Thank you for sharing them!

  • The solo at the end is Mick Taylor. I know it. Bob knows it. Mark knows it....now you know it.

  • superb ++++++++++++++=

  • nice.. :)

  • Any one in the know, knows all painters paint Photographs, i'm definately gonna start painting now because Mr. D. has given me inspiration again!!!. Thanks Bob, Emotionally yours, you are the best songwriter ever and made us all listen to Woody before you he was a complete unknown i hope you can Still handle the cruelty that has always been dished your way you are hopefully immune.

  • one of the greatest Bobs moments

  • Muito Boa essa musica.... Filme: Terra Fria

  • Lovely!

  • Actually the guy who solos at the end is Ex rolling stone Mick Taylor...

  • a absolute hero!!

  • ‎"Steal a little and they throw you in jail. Steal a lot and they make you a king."

  • ..ye cant help but adore this Man....my Perception anyway......What a story teller.musician,poet,singer...!

  • @MsAnnestube

Hi MsAnnestube, I'm a great fan of Bob too...i saw him 7 times live in concert, last time with Mark Knopfler in Milan......did u go to his show?

  • @MrHarryx62

Hey Why You Showing off To ((Ms Annestube)).She Can Dream !! Cant She !!

And Yes I Agree With her.It Would Be A Simple Twist Of Fate indeedy, Im Female Fan

  • hey all you female Bob fan's....imagine meeting Bob and he sing's this to you..........I wouldnt mind!

  • @MsAnnestube ....it could be wonderful......!!! <3 that's sure!!

  • @gxios no its not it was Mick Taylor. stupid !

  • Ah used ta think the sawng was about somebody else; till epiphany like , ah realised it could be about the viewer...aint dat sumthin'?

  • bad smells from youtube

  • youtube sucks pub youtube asshole ban youtube nowwwwwwwww

  • I appreciate your genius Bob! I love your powerful, and poignant poetry! But to have some girl do air guitar for Mark Knopfler on guitar at the end of the tune was , in my opinion, a disappointment, and an insult to Mark Knopfler. Why not have him on the video, as he deserved!? Hopefully you will appreciate how amazing he is going to make you sound like in your upcoming tour in europe!

  • only dylan could have wrote this simply beautiful "could have crawled across cut glass to make a deal"the man is a genius

  • fuck you devo you capitalistic money monger pricks

  • I dislike 7 people!

  • Solo at the end is Mark Knopfler.

  • @gxios yes!

  • @gxios

That doesn't look like Mark Knopfler

  • @gxios you'r wrong the solo is by Mick Taylor! it is not the Mark knofler style!!!

have a look on the jacquet of the record fo the casting

  • @gxios Nope that's Mick Taylor

  • @gxios surely not......it s another kind of maestro : MICK TAYLOR

  • @gxios The solo starts with Mick Taylor, so he and Mark Knopfler plays back and forth, so Mark plays until the fade.

  • @gxios actually the solo at the end is mick taylor (look it up) mark only produced the album

  • @gxios No it's Mick Taylor

  • @gxios no it is not : solo is mick taylor , ex stones , cheers berher

  • @gxios Nope - it's Mick Taylor

  • @gxios well, i it turned out to be Mick Taylor

  • copy and paste: joe floyd corcoran

  • I know this is a Bob Dylan music video, but I cant resist saying this.

Do you think that chick is Nicki Minaj's grandmother?

  • @AerosmithLover69: more like Snookie's grandmother i guess :P

  • this is so sweet. I love his music!

  • absolutely sweet cheers bobby

  • I recently covered Hard Rain by Dylan on my channel. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think!

  • 7 People do not like real music. Absolute sweet sounds from a legend.

  • Solo in the end like Mark Knopfler, wonderful.

  • that´s the guy. Anthological

  • The lead guitarist is seriously hot!! especially when shes giving it some...Cool as fuck ( unusual for girl guitarists )

  • the great jamaican riddim section of sly (dunbar) & robbie (shakespeare) was on drums and bass for the entire "infidels" album... why don't have them on the video?

  • one of the best songs i ever heared

  • @adom401

The people on the video are not the real musicians: that's why yiou can't see nor Knofer, nor Taylor either.

Dylan explained in an interview that "people have to be beautiful on music videos"!

  • anyone else think the women in the video looks like DYLAN

  • Wonderful!

The "Infidels" album (1983) is one of my favourite, and this song may be the most beautiful, especially thanks to the Mick Taylor solo (played by Carla Olson on the video).

The whole album actually owes a lot to its guitarist: Taylor & Knoffer, but also (of course) to Bob Dyaln himself who made a wonderful come back (once more) with his greatest album since "Desire" (1975)!

    Many thanks for the video!

  • what a fantasic song a f@#$in masterpiece cool very cool

  • Bob Marley on bass!!!

  • I just wanted ot really know..... What ...Is... A Sweetheart Like you... Doing in a Dump like this.... I think plato thought about that allot.

  • @MrGuitarman187 what do you mean about plato? could you elaborate if its not too much trouble, caught my attention that statement, cheers

  • @scorjamsey oh that statement was meant a a joke. I was drinking when i wrote that. But still funny to think if plato was to walk in a bar a see a hot chick and wants to talk to her. But he stops and thinks about the questions and completely forgets about talking to the girl.

  • anyone know who the girl playing guitar?

  • @cjb8037 cheers mate

  • This is great, what album is this from? any1 know?

  • @scorjamsey infidels i think mate

  • There's only one step down from here baby, it's called the land of permanent bliss. Mark Knopfler produced this album, that's his unmistakeable sound on the lead. Dylan, Knopfler and Springsteen are my all time favorites. There will never be another like him. All I can say is thank you.

  • The Rest Is A Gift

I will take you with me

    It's all in the wrist

When I point my finger at you

    The rest is a gift

    M.S. Morrison

  • And since this man has influenced the last 5 decades of music I did one of his songs as a tribute. Check it out if you have time. peace everyone, Sherrill

  • One of my favorite Bob Dyland songs. He is in Hamburg Germany this weekend. I have a friend thats going to see him. I hope to see him soon. He turns 70 this year. ***** peace to all, Sherrill

  • This is completely play back. Except for the drummer, nobody is playing what they are supposed to play. The women don't play chords they are just trying to be a sweethearts . But that's OK you can play play back on You Tube. On I saw Demis Rousos playing play back on stage. The public threw things at him. When the public pay so much money to see you live you have to bring real musicians.

  • The drums and bass player are the same he used on "Slow Train Coming", and for the uniniated, Bob Marley's!

  • The drums and bass player are the same he used on "Slow Train Coming", and for the uniated, Bob Marley's!

  • it is Knopfler ... all over the album ... how good is he ?

  • i was referring to the best song part . usually the greatest song in the world is the dylan song i am listening to @the moment

  • Knopfer and Mick Taylor played guitar on Infidels. Rhythm section was Sly and Robbie ;)

  • Good idea to have women in the band? Don't think so.

    Probably just happened.

  • I can't stop THANKING you

  • what a beautiful song. the nice thing about dylan is that hes got so much music out that you can always get something new from him even if its from the seventees. i still havent heard all his songs even though i have all his albums.

  • I dont give a fuck about the new all time low album!

  • @MarleyFan1996 Well that's OK. Absolutely no-one gives a fuck about you.

  • @isumbras1 Thats a mean thing to say.

  • @MarleyFan1996 Oh you poor little flower. I'm sorry if I hurt your delicate feelings. By the way, is your IQ lower than room temperature?

  • @isumbras1 Hahaha what's your problem?

  • But he shaawww left here in style

  • i dont dig mark knopheler..maybe sultans ,,,but i dig bob...

  • could swear thats mark knopheler on lead guitar

  • Love the song and the album, but isn't this video pretty terrible?

  • @will420ist Yeah, but the music stands up on its own. That's the thing about Dylan. He doesn't need bells and whistles and smoke bombs and special effects.

  • @hexcane why don't you just buy bringing it all back home, highway 61, and blonde on blonde? then you'll have all his best work

  • gorgeous song, surreal video : )

  • Superb picture and sound, I cant understand why people hate Vevo. Personally I find all the lame ass fan-videos more annoying.

  • beautiful song....

  • cantor zimmerman , we are not worthy but thank you so much , HAPPY BIRTHDAY may GOD bless and keep you always

  • happy birthday mr dylan sir :)

  • Bob Dylan looked like Waylon Jennings here haha

  • Also, could anyone tell me how my comment somehow ended up being "in playlist MUSIC: BOB DYLAN"? I just meant to comment on the page for "Sweetheart Like You". :(

  • I am rather irritated by the whole vevo concept, with ads..but I will put up with it because this is the most beautiful song in the world, that has saved my life multiple times. I first heard it at the end of the movie North Country, and subsequently I've probably listened to it in the years since then at least 100 times. This is one of the main reasons I don't think humanity is totally fucked. If there's someone with this kind of talent, it can't be all bad.

  • @glortw i couldnt have said better myself and i didn't but AMEN fella

  • @rickshaw60 haha i'm not a fella.. but thanks! but did you mean the part about it being the most beautiful song, or t he part about humanity's not really f'ed?

  • that blonde girl with guitar on 3:29 *__*

    i love that riff.

  • @chrisma08 @quentinmehana Definitely Knopfler. He assisted in the production and playing on the album.

  • Dylan you're the best! have a happy bday!!
