Wow, that chord on "web" ( 0:17 ) is not one that you hear everyday in barbershop. A major-minor with an augmented 5th? That's a half-educated guess and likely wrong. Whatever it is, there's an enormous amount of tension in it, leading to some high potency chord resolution!
Finey... What can I say... I've watched this video alone countless times, because your style, accuracy, devotion and emotion with this art form really tug at my heart strings (purposeful reference to the "Zing" tag) :)
I have a tag to suggest and possibly sponsor. How do I get in touch to talk about that?
whats is amazing is that your voice is such a pure tone. it is very hard to hit the notes you do and hold the tone...notice in your other vids. that u did not even change tone one bit....that is very rare.
Ive actually played a version of this in a trombone quartet before I'm pretty sure. (It wasnt the same title but hey, its sounds almost identical.) Call me crazy, but i like the way this sounds more than my quartet...
FineyLeee, is there any chance you could possibly send me the spots to this arrangement? This is absolutely divine and I'd love to give my friends and I a good crack at it.
I wasn't criticizing the quality of the tag by any means. Regardless of words, Simon's stuff is always top notch, he could be singing about zombie babies and I'd still probably get those antsy "omg turn gay" vibes.
Simon, HUGE FAN!...but this one started a bit rough for me. However, it gets better toward the end, and i love your pig tail ending on the tenor part. Keep up the good work.
I don't even knoe if it's correct english to sing "like a tide", however, this tag I resang the parts like a million times and I discovered that I said the wrong word after three of the parts were done, so... But I don't think it ruins too much of the fun, right?
Exactly, nothing is ruined by the word muck-up. We've all recorded something with a wrong note, word or different pronunciation. lol.. right Simon? (heheh.. Thyme)
but "Like a tide" is just fine as far as the silly english language goes
"a tide" grammatically sound, but I tend to think of the tide as a single entity in lyrical context like this, so either way works for me.
It's not like the beginning of Nighttime in Dixieland, "All you see is smiling faces", which is a grammatical nightmare. That example is grammatically incorrect AND it adds unnecessary sibilance.
I'm guessing that you're noticing my lack of low range in falsetto. I struggled with that place, and tried to do that specific note in chest voice, but I concluded that the best way of doing it is like this.
dude i used to sing with beef in the bowling green barbershop chorus called voices of harmony! he used to be in a quartet called the hot air buffoons too =)
Awesome as always. Glad to see you are doing some of the classics from yesteryear. Your voice was exceptionally good for this; were you have a good day or are you actually getting better with age?
Awesome vibrato, and really really good job controlling that high note that softly. Hard stuff done correctly sounds all the better! 5 stars as usual.
If vibrato is included in the tone, it messes up the tuning and the chords won't ring as they normally would. What makes the barbershop chord structure so different is that it relies on Pythagorean tuning while other acapella singing does not.
Pythagorean? people singing in triangles? I've never heard that term used in this context. I think you mean just tuning, as opposed to tempered tuning.
What sweet sounds from this tag!

@OscillatingEthmoid I'd rather hear it as a dominant b9 chord with the 13th in the lead...altough I'm not sure =S

vanish129 2 years ago
you have excellent vibrato, I don't know why you sing straight tone all the time.
darthrender2010 2 years ago
because vibrato is not a part of barbershop sound. straight tone just works better with this style
Nytrous1 2 years ago
I like straight tone so much better
jghue 2 years ago
coz straight tones and pure harmonies are what differs barbershop from other acapella
FineyLeee 2 years ago
If vibrato is included in the tone, it messes up the tuning and the chords won't ring as they normally would. What makes the barbershop chord structure so different is that it relies on Pythagorean tuning while other acapella singing does not.
