  • What sweet sounds from this tag!

  • Wow, that chord on "web" ( 0:17 ) is not one that you hear everyday in barbershop. A major-minor with an augmented 5th? That's a half-educated guess and likely wrong. Whatever it is, there's an enormous amount of tension in it, leading to some high potency chord resolution!

  • @OscillatingEthmoid I'd rather hear it as a dominant b9 chord with the 13th in the lead...altough I'm not sure =S

  • That'sl like 38 seconds of paradise to my ears <3

  • Love how as this tag comes to its end, the tone of it gently descends to the concluding tone. Love hearing that:)

  • Great!!!

  • Sounds like the BSQ version from the late '90s/early '00s. Arr Rob Hopkins, maybe?

  • your like kissing the mic xD

  • is this your composition???

please incrase it... its beautiful :)

  • Your voice and musical interpretation are absolutely beautiful. Whoever marries you is gonna be one very happy spouse :)

  • This is 48 seconds of bliss. Gorgeous voice.

  • top salad with bits of toast

  • Top salad, with bits of toast.

  • It,s great, please make me a pasta salad.

  • Finey... What can I say... I've watched this video alone countless times, because your style, accuracy, devotion and emotion with this art form really tug at my heart strings (purposeful reference to the "Zing" tag) :)

I have a tag to suggest and possibly sponsor. How do I get in touch to talk about that?

  • you should to do the "the tears have left my eyes"

  • What a soothing tag! I can listen to this over and over again even though it's not long. lol What key is this done in?

  • Falsetto never hurt anyone. only my uncle Burt.

  • are you doing falsetto on the lead part at the end?

  • @yuvizal yeah

  • This.. is gorgeous

  • such a beautiful voice man. do you do any other vocal work besides barbershop?

  • I really think that of all that you have recorded, this is the one that has struck me the most.

  • whats is amazing is that your voice is such a pure tone. it is very hard to hit the notes you do and hold the tone...notice in your other vids. that u did not even change tone one bit....that is very rare.

  • You should come to my college and sing with me and my friends

  • wow, one word... wow

and uhm.... what would it take to persuade you to do the entire song?

  • @MrSteenstra money

  • Ive actually played a version of this in a trombone quartet before I'm pretty sure. (It wasnt the same title but hey, its sounds almost identical.) Call me crazy, but i like the way this sounds more than my quartet...

    Keep doin what you do.

  • This deserves a favorite

  • you have a beutiful falsetto simon. NEVER stop singing.

  • FineyLeee, is there any chance you could possibly send me the spots to this arrangement? This is absolutely divine and I'd love to give my friends and I a good crack at it.

  • Never mind. I decided to use this as a way to shake off the rust from my old transcribing skills.

    Keep up the amazing work!

  • if you still havent figured it out it's at barbershoptags(dot)com

  • Dude, your voice is incredible.

  • one of my all time fav songs... and this tag was reserved, tender, and just... beautiful. thanks. great job and great post.

  • Wow, very impressive. Would love to teach this tag to the guys at AoH next week... got the spots?

  • Wow.... this is REALLY fantastic.... just soo good!

  • I would say that you have uncanny "pureness" in your voice.. Spectacular really.

Rock solid would be an understatement.

    Good stuff.

  • I LOVE YOU SOO MUCH OMG

  • OMG here u seems like Draco Malfoy xD

  • I'm not that blond, haha =)

  • @FineyLeee really dude i would go with the idea of edobarto =D

  • undertone! sweet....

  • your a natuaral.

  • haha I just realized... it looks like you're going to make out with your mic at the end of the tenor post :P

  • This is a great tag, well done as always, man. And you guys (Zero8) did great at Anaheim!

  • i love that post. its so soft and suddle but its so powerful in the tag. LOVE IT!!

  • simon, digging the combover ! ;)

  • its his "soft tag" hair =P

  • this is definitely my favorite finey tag, it is so resolute.

  • You should hear the whole song them :)

  • thats beautiful!

  • the bottom left was making love to the mic haha thats when you know your badass great tag man

  • This is a baaaad dude. Love the singing.

  • new microphone? or just a new pop blocker

  • pretty new mic... it's bought in January

  • anyone got the lyrics for this?

  • Like the Tide at its ebb, I'm at peace in the web, of your loooooooove.

I mean, you could just listen to it a couple times and get that ya know.

  • i think its like A tide, not like THE tide

  • He sang A tide

  • yea i agree

  • but it's supposed to be "the tide"... I made a mistake...

  • to be perfectly honest, its not your accuracy of the words that amazes me the most about your singing

  • so what is it?

  • i think its the way you interpret it

  • your voice, in general, is amazing.

i was just trying to say that the words are pretty insignificant when compared to the quality of your work, in my opinion anyway

  • @FineyLeee lol!

  • Damn, Simon, what a huge, uh, microphone you have.

  • LMAO!!!!

  • I wasn't criticizing the quality of the tag by any means. Regardless of words, Simon's stuff is always top notch, he could be singing about zombie babies and I'd still probably get those antsy "omg turn gay" vibes.

    I kid Simon. :D

  • Great one, Simon. Very soft and smooth. Great voice and tag! I even love your vibrato. :)

  • HATER!!!

  • Simon, HUGE FAN!...but this one started a bit rough for me. However, it gets better toward the end, and i love your pig tail ending on the tenor part. Keep up the good work.

  • Too many critics, spoil the video.

Simon, I absolutely love this version of the song, don't change a thing, go with what you do best!!!

  • Hey simon, max here. Now excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't it written as "Like the - " In the beginning? And a split happens on "the" as well?

  • Haha yes =)

I don't even knoe if it's correct english to sing "like a tide", however, this tag I resang the parts like a million times and I discovered that I said the wrong word after three of the parts were done, so... But I don't think it ruins too much of the fun, right?

  • Exactly, nothing is ruined by the word muck-up. We've all recorded something with a wrong note, word or different pronunciation. lol.. right Simon? (heheh.. Thyme)

but "Like a tide" is just fine as far as the silly english language goes

  • "a tide" grammatically sound, but I tend to think of the tide as a single entity in lyrical context like this, so either way works for me.

It's not like the beginning of Nighttime in Dixieland, "All you see is smiling faces", which is a grammatical nightmare. That example is grammatically incorrect AND it adds unnecessary sibilance.

  • Sounds Great!

The third chord sounds just fine to me. Perfectly balanced.

  • Great stuff! But what happened on that third note on the top voice? Something strange that I can't put my finger on.

  • I'm guessing that you're noticing my lack of low range in falsetto. I struggled with that place, and tried to do that specific note in chest voice, but I concluded that the best way of doing it is like this.

  • yesteryear :)

i'll have to tell beef that you did this tag, and have him look at it.

(beef = yesteryears bass for those who didn't know)

  • dude i used to sing with beef in the bowling green barbershop chorus called voices of harmony! he used to be in a quartet called the hot air buffoons too =)

  • still is in that quartet :)

  • Awesome as always. Glad to see you are doing some of the classics from yesteryear. Your voice was exceptionally good for this; were you have a good day or are you actually getting better with age?

    Cheers mate.

  • I just do a lot of takes =)

My voice is definitely more suitable for screamers, this one was very very hard for me...

  • great job as always Simon!

Beautiful post, perfect tuning, brilliant blend.

Let's hear some more of these eh?

  • Ahh, not bad at all, good man. Not bad at all. =)

  • Sounds great, I'm looking forward to hearing you in Anaheim!

  • so beautiful!! :) I love the falcetto line - it's perfect!

  • Nice to hear you doing a soft tag!!! Nice Blend!! (and hair)

Best of luck to you in Anaheim! Wish I could be there, but I'm too poor to go. =/

  • Good job :)

  • Awesome.

  • Wow you look totally different without your hair up. Haha! Awesome work bro! See you in two weeks!

  • Nice to see you at it again!

  • Awesome vibrato, and really really good job controlling that high note that softly. Hard stuff done correctly sounds all the better! 5 stars as usual.

  • I saw the music sheet...I didnt know how it sounded...

so this is how its sounds...COOL....

  • you have excellent vibrato, I don't know why you sing straight tone all the time.

  • because vibrato is not a part of barbershop sound. straight tone just works better with this style

  • I like straight tone so much better

  • coz straight tones and pure harmonies are what differs barbershop from other acapella

  • If vibrato is included in the tone, it messes up the tuning and the chords won't ring as they normally would. What makes the barbershop chord structure so different is that it relies on Pythagorean tuning while other acapella singing does not.

  • I wouldn't say Pythagorean tuning exactly... It's more about perfect harmonies...

  • Pythagorean? people singing in triangles? I've never heard that term used in this context. I think you mean just tuning, as opposed to tempered tuning.

  • That´s nice, Simon.

Love to sing with you in Anaheim.

  • Wow! My latest favorite Finey video. This one gave me goosebumps of delight. The harmonizing was wonderful.

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  • very very nice.

  • ebbic!

  • Nice hair!

    beautiful blend.

Loving the last section on the bass,

    just all around great tag!

  • Very nice, as always! Not heard this one before.

  • Nice blend.

  • Great Job!
