Dude... I don't want to be a hater... But you've told me almost nothing about the actual SlingBox. I learned nothing. I thought 'any moment now, he's going to show us the interface and how it hooks up and walk through using it' but no...
@asia911 I believe if you have Dish Network, and your receiver is a Duo receiver, you can watch two different channels. However, I am not too sure about the HD since only TV1 gets HD, TV2 gets SD.
@ThaiSamuraiK1 Yep. My Dad is currently abroad in a country whose broadband speeds are... well... they are not great lets put it that way lol. The main slingbox is connected here in the uk and he is streaming uk tv down to where he is and he says that its all fine and its watchable.
Chris I have the HD PRO and im trying to sling to my Mac book pro. I understand that slingbox currently do not support the HD setups right now. so does that mean i should not use the composite cables?
Hey Jupiter im getting a msg on my sling box displaying saying weak or no video signal detected. Have you ever seen this. BTW i have tried all set up configs and still no video. Any suggestions?
i have the HD Pro but i am pissed at the fact that i cant watch HD on my mac. I have to use my S video to even get a picture. Cant wait till apple fixes that problem. I also have a question about the usb in the rear of the slingbox. whats it for?

If I use this on my mobile device, is the person watching the tv that has the slingbox connected forced to watch what I'm watching on my device when I'm using it?
4 stars. Great video, but render them in a better format for play back. Most people are not running 20mbps or more at home. Check less mbs rendering option for your videos that output in HD with you video editing software. :-)
Great video. I have a question. I do not have cable nor satelite. I watch TV with an antenna or Popcorn Hour. I am not interested in streaming video from my Popcorn Hour. I do, however, want to stream my live TV shows. How can I use this device to stream over-the-air HD channels to a laptop computer when I happen to travel to other cities? Thanks.
Hey bro. Thanks for the video. So if I was to install the box at someone else's house in hopes to get TV at my house... When accessing the TV from my place their TV/cablebox would be running? Can we watch 2 different shows at the same time? Can I plug into a standard coax line and get the first 99 chanels only. rather than go through the DVR?
Jupiter I have one particular question...well I'm trying to develop a project where I'm going to broadcast 6 different TV channels through Adobe Flash Media Encoder. So I usually do it on Ustream.tv and then I embed the code into my website. Now is there any way the slingbox can help me avoid purchasing 6 different TV receivers in order to broadcast the 6 channels with only one slingbox? I don't know if my question is clear enough because It's kind of difficult to explain this...
In my particular situation thats not really a big deal HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! But great review im going to get a slingbox tomorrow
How do I connect my PS3 to Slingbox Pro HD and to my TV in HD at the same time?
And can one be watching TV on my lving room and someone else watching a diff. channel on a diff. tv in a diff. room with slingcatcher? PLEASE HELP ME!!
I just wanna know exactly what can you watch on the sling box? how many channels. I never hear anything about the viewing content on this thing.... i can't seem to find it on their website either.
You never showed yourself actually using it. Probably doesn't work that well. It's like those cell phone commercials where they put a video overlay over the device they are displaying, because the actual device is made of cheap parts...

So this can be a perfect solution if I wanna watch live TV without having to buy a TV? Do you need to do anything with a cable TV when setting up for the first time?
Okay, so I got a Digital Cable Box, So I connect that to the SlingBox. Now What If I want to watch the cable on a laptop when I am in a different city or different country
Me prodrias decir si sling box tiene copetencia en esta area de mercado o sling box es la unica compania con esa caracteristicas y facilidades fantasticas
Thanks for the review, I was wondering if you'd tried the Slingplayer mobile for iPhone and how the quality of the HD channels were on that device compared to the regular quality? I currently have a Slingbox Pro but didn't hook it up to HD (it needs separate cable). Thanks.
Wish it had a hard disk so we could store a hogh quality program on the SlingBox, and then transfer the data, without thinking of the connection speed. If the speed was slow, it would just take a bit longer to download.
I know it can be done (I think) using a computer with a tuner card, record the program, and save it in a shared folder. But, I don't think this method works with a DVR or similar.
@ilf93dimarco duh I know...I was making a joke in relation to the guy that posted about seeing the porn on the screen ...but it does look like a dildo that is why it is funny.

Yes. You can be anywhere in the world. You need good high speed internet for uploading (where the slingbox is located) and good one where you are downloading.

I have a TV in living room and that's where i do much of my TV watching... Sometimes i want to watch TV from my bedroom so i am looking for a free slingbox host in the USA. I herd of people privately hosting for others but they pay for them to host. Since i would not use it allot it would be nice to get it free.
I no one wants to host could someone hook me up with a website or something so i cant watch form them?
This is a stupid question, but can you which from receiving HD or SD signals depending on my internet speed? (It changes alot where I live, from 100kb/s to 6Mb/s. Thanks
its does good with hd over the net but it really depends on the up speed. when my sister had fios 20d/20u it was great!! But when she downgraded to 10d/2u, i was still to get hd over the net. However, if you watching sports (which is the reason i got it) it can get choppy at times which is annoying. Sometimes I have to reduce the reso in the encoding menu to watch it. Movies in hd however works pretty well.

i´d like to hear if someone have tested this on a 2 mbit upload. Sling Media says something about a 512 upload and a 1.5 mbit. the quality should be better the greater upload you have. what happens if you uses the broadwide to download og upload stuff to a homepage ? does the framerate drop. you can see that the movie in the background is lagging a bit.
Im going to Balad, Iraq in June 09. Im getting a new laptop before I leave. I can use Slingbox cant I? We will have internet in our room over there. What all will I need? Please help
I'v been trying to find out if your watching on your laptop or cell phone...Does your TV turn on at home like if someone was watching tv???, or does it stay off???, Thanks.
So if you have the sling catcher does that mean that you no longer need a DirecTV box in that room and if so do you need a sling catcher in every room where a tv would be?
Right. Main TV gets a slingbox, or where ever the TV service comes in. Then you could put catches on each TV. Though I think there is a limit to only streaming to a single catcher at a time.
1 - Yes. Good and bad. This means you can watch TV "with" someone even when you are not home
2 - Not yet.. But word is this is coming. You can have the sling software on as many computers as you like, but can only stream to one at a time. So far.
Hey Chris can I use a slingbox at my sisters house in Canada, catch the signal on my computer in Korea and play it on my HD TV? I have the TV hooked up to my computer already but the HD channels here are not english. In korea there is no limit as to the quantity of internet usage ie downloading etc.. Is that the same in Canada? Also If I were able to use the Slingbox in Canda from Korea. If I changed channels would that effect the TV in Canada? I heard that a coaxial connection could solve this?
Hello, great video, but I have a question for you: Why do you have the Airport Express? Is it not possible to connect the Slingbox to a sound system via phono, and to a wireless router via cable, and then make a computer play music and stuff through the sound system, wireless via the Slingbox?
no man.. the slingbox will make your gameplay of xbox360 or any console appear in your desktop but if you want to record your computer screen you just download frapps or any other screen capture program :)
Great job Chris, I have been thinking about getting a slingbox for while, I guess its time to stop thinking about and getting it to help out the USA economy, especially since you menttion that its built around Linux, really cool, thanks.
Hey Chris man , nice video once again! Just wondered if you managed to get your ps3 rocking some Linux? If so i hope your still planning to do a video about how it went? Whatever the case , keep up the great work! You is da man!
Love the intro of the video, great stuff! I don't really have any use for a unit like this right now though, since I live in a tiny little apartment. I mostly use the UShare UPNP server together with my Xbox 360. Works like a charm!
hey chris, i've been following the LAS' videos since the beginning. It was kind of loosing the... entertainment value of it. As in, if you're not really interested in the topic than it wasn't really worth watching. As opposed to say the podcast that was always cool to hear, no matter what was being talked about. This time my friend, you nailed it. big time. It was really funny, seriously I laughed. and the review itself was great, great fluence in monologue. congrats and keep it up!
Can you watch TV on your computer without disturbing channels on the DVR the slingbox is connected to? Or do you have to find a coaxal cable splitter?
Chris...continue doing what you do. I realize that to increase your audience you have to venture into new areas of interest. Furthermore, to keep "your" interest, you have to touch upon different technologies. I too though would like to see a show about the video editing software you use.
I surely do understand that you're trying to reach a larger audience... and guy's got to do what a guy's got to do to put food on the table...
but I just miss the more Linux-centric stuff the old format used to have... It was entertainment, news, educational and 100% Linux in one healthy dose... and I miss that.
Anyways, all the best with the show. I'll still be watching...
P.S. It's the third time I'm asking... but what do you use for video editing? It's some great work!
Once I have a working system, I'll post a video on how I do it. For example I recorded this episode at 3:00pm, but was unable to even get it out and posted until 1am.
That would be awesome! I'm having a hard time just putting my home videos into a pleasantly viewable form... The software just doesnt seem ready. But your work with the show is spot on! It's more than what I'm aiming for but still would be handy to know.
Ha ha ha. Applause applause to Chris for attempting a decidedly refreshing approach in reviewing this appliance. The intro was fantastic, but the unwrapping was a tad draggy. I'd rather hear Chris comment straight away. =)

1 - Yes. Good and bad. This means you can watch TV "with" someone even when you are not home
2 - Not yet.. But word is this is coming. You can have the sling software on as many computers as you like, but can only stream to one at a time. So far.

@jupiterbroadcasting Is there no way of watching a different channel on your TV at the same time as watching another channel on the pc?

Hey Chris can I use a slingbox at my sisters house in Canada, catch the signal on my computer in Korea and play it on my HD TV? I have the TV hooked up to my computer already but the HD channels here are not english. In korea there is no limit as to the quantity of internet usage ie downloading etc.. Is that the same in Canada? Also If I were able to use the Slingbox in Canda from Korea. If I changed channels would that effect the TV in Canada? I heard that a coaxial connection could solve this?

Hello, great video, but I have a question for you: Why do you have the Airport Express? Is it not possible to connect the Slingbox to a sound system via phono, and to a wireless router via cable, and then make a computer play music and stuff through the sound system, wireless via the Slingbox?
bajer111 2 years ago
The Slingbox only sends audio to your computer, you can not send audio to it.

Question: Im lookin for a device to capture actual gameplay from my PS3, but i want to capture it in HD. Is Slingbox Pro HD my answer?
Thx
YIL2D 3 years ago
You could use the Slingbox Pro HD to stream the game play to your computer, then screen capture it there...

So, there's no video recording software that comes with the Slingbox?

to "Nettacki"
no man.. the slingbox will make your gameplay of xbox360 or any console appear in your desktop but if you want to record your computer screen you just download frapps or any other screen capture program :)

Great job Chris, I have been thinking about getting a slingbox for while, I guess its time to stop thinking about and getting it to help out the USA economy, especially since you menttion that its built around Linux, really cool, thanks.

Wicked, going to have to check Sling out. Still rockin' the $40 used Xbox along with Xbmc.

Chris...continue doing what you do. I realize that to increase your audience you have to venture into new areas of interest. Furthermore, to keep "your" interest, you have to touch upon different technologies. I too though would like to see a show about the video editing software you use.
kamaboko1 3 years ago
Hi Chris!
It's some great work!
librano 3 years ago
Once I have a working system, I'll post a video on how I do it. For example I recorded this episode at 3:00pm, but was unable to even get it out and posted until 1am.
jupiterbroadcasting 3 years ago
That would be awesome! I'm having a hard time just putting my home videos into a pleasantly viewable form... The software just doesnt seem ready. But your work with the show is spot on! It's more than what I'm aiming for but still would be handy to know.

Ha ha ha. Applause applause to Chris for attempting a decidedly refreshing approach in reviewing this appliance. The intro was fantastic, but the unwrapping was a tad draggy. I'd rather hear Chris comment straight away. =)
