It's not. And probably won't be; Michael Nyman, the original composer, reportedly didn't like it, and said he wasn't about to give Nighwish permission to make it available to the public. The original song is simply a piano melody; there were no other instruments, save for a tiny bit of orchestration merely as a backdrop. Nyman said he didn't like Nightwish's version because it was so vastly different.
Actually, I just read in some interview or something that Nyman finally gave Nightwish the permissions to record it! So I do hope what I read wasn't false. :)

The point of a cover is to re-create depending on your vision of it. Some will like the original and some NW's version, and that's the most logical thing...
As for the comparison thing (ant,T-rex), I don't see a point to it. Just because every rock magazine and rock label in the world will tell you that Pink Floyd are legends, that alone doesn't make them the BEST BAND in the World. There are other great bands and everyone listens to whatever he or she likes.

Try to put in Michael Nyman's shoes: The Heart Asks Pleasure First it's simply beautiful, and at the same time melancholic, and it definitely gets to your heart; so, it belongs to Mr. Nyman, and if he did not want a band to cover the song, even add lyrics (come on!), I find that fair enough.
If Nightwish version is great, if you think that, I'd find hard to believe that you have heard Nyman's one.

I've had my doubts about Anette, but she truly captured my heart on this track. Hearing it for the first time was one of the most amazing listening experiences of my life; it ranks with the original Ghost Love Score. I listened to this song 65 times that day. Still, I have come to terms with the prospect of never hearing it in full quality this side of paradise.... :-P
Amaranth is 3:51, about the length of this song(this song is 3:55-58), if you don't count violin at the end, this is song should be 0.2 seconds shorter than Kuolema and Bare Grace Misery(note, I count Lappi as one whole song).
It might not be "the siren," but I'm sure it's "that voyage," it's about the part in The Piano where SPOILER! Ada has the piano thrown overboard and tries to kill herself by letting it drag her into the sea.

I think it sounds more folk than rock. I guess Michael Nyman's vision didn't include campires and beers all around when he composed it... it's a big difference in musical visions, I believe.
Everyone can intrepetate a piece of music in a different way, everybody has another association with it, so if I were Nyman, and I heard a very professional cover, but intrepetated in a different way and different style, I absolutely would give permission, cause by making a well thought off cover, NW showed him their respect for his music... But maybe does not everyone stand open for new music and new ideas and maybe does not everyone care about the interests of other people...
might be a shame but Nyman is part of the "old school". Tuomas won't appreciate newer music in his 60s, either. this intolerance comes with age in some, not all gain wisdom. if you disliked a version of a song you composed, would you allow them to release it? I wouldn't. it's my work after all, why let them do something to my kids I don't approve of?

Nyman was just afraid the song is better this way, with lyrics. I just went to listen to a tune without song, and had Anette stuck inside my head. It is as if the tune was made for the lyrics, damn, indeed a pitty its not for sale on a CD :-(. It was a nice gift for the fans to play this on the way out! Glad I was there!

Thank you, I hoped someone got this on tape. It's one of my favourite piece of music ever. I cried when they played it. It was so beautiful and I was so happy. I must have looked ridiculous since everyone else were already leaving and I just stood there crying :). I hope they'll get a permission to record it.

When I heard this last saturday I thought immediately that OK, Nyman has ripped this off from some Scandinavian folk song - because that's what it sounds like here. I love it. But I must admit that the guitar and especially the choir don't fit so well.

This is a song that does need lyrics, specially shouted out by Anette (does she always have to yell???), not any additions as TERRIBLY unmatching guitars. With respect to guys, this is a very overdone version. The melody is charming in its simplicity and does not need any additions like thone ones.

I've had my doubts about Anette, but she truly captured my heart on this track. Hearing it for the first time was one of the most amazing listening experiences of my life; it ranks with the original Ghost Love Score. I listened to this song 65 times that day. Still, I have come to terms with the prospect of never hearing it in full quality this side of paradise.... :-P

Amaranth is 3:51, about the length of this song(this song is 3:55-58), if you don't count violin at the end, this is song should be 0.2 seconds shorter than Kuolema and Bare Grace Misery(note, I count Lappi as one whole song).

It might not be "the siren," but I'm sure it's "that voyage," it's about the part in The Piano where SPOILER! Ada has the piano thrown overboard and tries to kill herself by letting it drag her into the sea.

they didn't get permission to release it on the album. They aren't actually playing the song live. Its just a track playing in the background as they walk off stage.
and it was one of the most epic moments in the entire concert imo. I started screaming to everyone around me, "OMG! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS?!!!" lol. I've wanted to hear their version for years...

Well do it then. I'm sure Beethoven wouldn't mind. There are lyrics in Bach's music made by other people as well as Sibelius' and neither of them had nothing against it. Why this one should be so sacret? Besides, I don't think you can compare Beethoven and Nyman. It's like comparing the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

I really like nightwish, and I think Tuomas is a great composer, but that will Never deny the fact that Nyman is a true music Genious.
Plus Nyman's version is PERFECT! This version is Great too, but as Nyman did with this song, Tuomas can do the same with his own songs. It's a composer's right so learn to Respect!

It sounds great, but I get why Nyman wouldn't want them to officially cover it. The guitar isn't very... subtle if you compare it to the original version's piano. Still too bad, though. C:

I think it sounds more folk than rock. I guess Michael Nyman's vision didn't include campires and beers all around when he composed it... it's a big difference in musical visions, I believe.

Everyone can intrepetate a piece of music in a different way, everybody has another association with it, so if I were Nyman, and I heard a very professional cover, but intrepetated in a different way and different style, I absolutely would give permission, cause by making a well thought off cover, NW showed him their respect for his music... But maybe does not everyone stand open for new music and new ideas and maybe does not everyone care about the interests of other people...

might be a shame but Nyman is part of the "old school". Tuomas won't appreciate newer music in his 60s, either. this intolerance comes with age in some, not all gain wisdom. if you disliked a version of a song you composed, would you allow them to release it? I wouldn't. it's my work after all, why let them do something to my kids I don't approve of?

Nyman was just afraid the song is better this way, with lyrics. I just went to listen to a tune without song, and had Anette stuck inside my head. It is as if the tune was made for the lyrics, damn, indeed a pitty its not for sale on a CD :-(. It was a nice gift for the fans to play this on the way out! Glad I was there!

Thank you, I hoped someone got this on tape. It's one of my favourite piece of music ever. I cried when they played it. It was so beautiful and I was so happy. I must have looked ridiculous since everyone else were already leaving and I just stood there crying :). I hope they'll get a permission to record it.

When I heard this last saturday I thought immediately that OK, Nyman has ripped this off from some Scandinavian folk song - because that's what it sounds like here. I love it. But I must admit that the guitar and especially the choir don't fit so well.

Anyways, please don't say Nyman is bad without knowing his work!
Of course I would like to listen to a Nightwish cover of it, but maybe Nyman wants the song to be untouched... or maybe he simply doens't like the kind of sound Nightwish would give to the song...
Anyways he is in his rights and he is also a genius as a composer.

This is a song that does need lyrics, specially shouted out by Anette (does she always have to yell???), not any additions as TERRIBLY unmatching guitars. With respect to guys, this is a very overdone version. The melody is charming in its simplicity and does not need any additions like thone ones.

Anette doesent yell here, not one bit. She is belting and I prefer this "yelling" hands down to classical wolf howling.
