I respect Roadfly a lot. I respect BMW a lot. I understand, but do not accept as uniform in the industry, the SAV acronym. And I do not accept Roadfly's acceptance of the SAV moniker in its reviews; it makes me think they have blindly accepted other assertions by BMW when Roadfly won't reject as silly the SAV moniker. In this review, the reviewer discusses the impressive performance "for an SAV" that weighs nearly 5,000 pounds. There are cross-overs and there are SUVs in the industry. Not SAVs.

the tiptronic automated gearbox is in my opinion, is set up the wrong way. When downshifting, you need to pull back on the handle instead of pushing forward. It makes it very confusing on the track and can make you go insane!!!

The gear selector is stupid and useless. You pull back to go into drive and push foward to go into reverse and then it always returns to the middle no matter what, then you have to press the button for park so you don't know if you're in park unless you look.

hey, although some people may not like how it looks if you do some research on it you'll see its a proformance car :) german style: 3.0 turbo desile 450 hp 0-60 in about 5. somhing :) also, IT GETS AROUND 35 MPG!!!! tell me that isnt a great offer check it out. man it's tight

yeah, thanks my Cayenne Turbo S averages around 29 mpg but when Iam in traffic Iam lucky to get 3 or 4 mpg.

Because the Turbo for some reason will kicked in at 15 mph and kill the mpg.

i see your point of view...yeah its insane for a SUV!

for me i cant swallow the looks (for me it makes the cayenne look good!)

and if i wanted performance, i prefer the sport cars... i love driving, cornering, breaking..

SUVs, better for something like little off road at a site and added space...

and the brand factor does play a part too.

stepping out of an x5 (with a smaller engine) will impress chicks more than stepping out of a powerful infinity. sounds lame, but just how it is.

This is the best new bmw design i have seen, the hood and lack of seams is amazing, and the interior is advacned yet retains a classic bmw look.

this is the most complete sav ever. handling, performance, comfort, luxury, space, looks, diesel mileage, everything. mercedes ml doesn't handle anywhere near. Lexus doesn't have much performance. Cayenne is just too sporty to be luxurious. Touareg is everything but its interior space and seats-too hard. Audi is kinda big and looks a tad akward. And of course it's got the best-performing v6 turbo-diesel engine in its class.

As a 4x4 its a complete waste of space , too low to ground no low range , an old series landrover would pull it backwards off road never mind a Defender with traction control . If you must buy a BMW get a saloon not this over priced people carrier

I you absolutely, positively, must driver your 60k SUV balls-to-the-wall, then the X5 is the SUV for you! No other SUV can handle like this thing at the limit - I experienced it first hand during BMW' X5 Ultimate Drive over the summer, where BMW brought along MB ML500, Volvo's C90V8 and Lexus GX470 as competitors. MB came in distant 2nd (the new ML550 will be different though) Volvo was suprisingly 'OK' in 3rd and predictably comfortable, yet non-performance oriented GX came in dead-last.

whoops, the ML is alright. ;) in fact its the only lineup in MB that look good with their idea on wheel arches. (S class doesnt need 'wide' body wheel arches lol)

after the xc90 (my friend got this) first came out i thought it was good, (i owned the x5) but its been so many years now and the x5 still looks good.. the volvo... just lost all its character over the years (if it had any to begin with)

actually the MDX was test by edmunds, i could be wrong but in the test it was said to HANDLE and CORNER BETTER than the x5.... that says ALOT.
