  • Intake seemed completely covered by water..Does the Range Rover have some kind of auxiliary air intake for submersion like the Hummer used to?

  • No auxiliary intake. Engine intake sits right on top of the engine, so benefit from the bow wave.

  • question did any water get inside on the floor?

  • Yes lots. Especially where the boot floor was needing resealed and pop rivetted!!! Carpets are a straight lift out and the weather is so dry in Western Australia you just hose them down and hang them up for a day and put back in.

  • if its a tdi they can drive through any amoun t of water but v8 arn't as good:)

    alothoughv8 sound lush!

  • Very True. This is a stock v8 carb. I am fortunate that I have a Mallory distributor which would appear to be a bit less sensitive to water than the Rover one. No electronics at all which also helps, and a good set of leads from RPI engineering.

  • is it me or did it look like a 12 year old was driving??

  • @samandsteven111...Driver is on the right side.

  • I wish i could go back to being 12, such fun!!! but no, this is a right hand drive.

  • LOOK ITS A RANGE ROVE

  • A snorkel is not a 'must have' for water crossings!?

I've had LN106 Hilux's and even FJ (that's right PETROL 2F) 60 cruisers through windscreen wiper level water without snorkels and lived to tell the tale. Try crossing the Fortescue after the wet and you'll know what I'm on about!

BOW WAVE + a small tarp over the bar works wonders .... happy 4WD ing peeps

  • There are many good 'off-road' vehicles. Including the many small production lines. Ultimately every vehicle will break at some point, it might be something small that only costs $2 but if the vehicle you have chosen has a 10 week waiting time on parts (Let alone 3 or more months) it becomes irrelevant how reliable the vehicle otherwise is. With the exception of 'life or death' situations, but then you should never EVER find yourself in such a situation (PLB, Sat Phone). Buy a good one.

  • defender rule fuck imatations

  • Taking on a water crossing that is top of the bonnet height without a snorkel is asking for trouble. Only luck will get you through. Don't forget that air intake is always lower. F%#k all your assumptions. The only reason he got through is because it was a short crossing. Not just him but anybody. By the way I'm a landy man myself.

  • @brackipas - Agreed, short crossing and bow wave.

  • My defender has done deeper without a snorkel I don't get the big deal?

  • @routley1985 This may be a v8 Range Rover.

  • @DefenderRocks - yes it is. bog standard 1982 except for mallory distributor.

  • how old is that kid?

  • @84stoney

    land cruiser stock

    we do deeper than that

    even

the isuzu d-max well do deeper than both

  • @95115964 no a range rover would do deeper and so would a land rover defender they are so much better than landcruisers and isuzus

  • @tim1234567895

    watch that video sir

    /watch?v=OhlMsO8FMlo

that's is so deep and Fast flow also

  • @tim1234567895

    isuzu is better!!

  • @wethepeople1127 who knows? Driver skill is far more important and a set of good tyres.

  • @95115964 It's funny how a Toyota man comes out of the woodwork to say his Toyota can do better. BULLSHIT!! Japs are not in the same league. Let go of it and it will grow.

  • bag of shit m8t

  • You have balls to do that without snorkel.

    Great Vid!

  • @asstuto Nonsense. Get the bow wave right and a Rangie will do that in it's sleep.

  • @imjohntins You are very right. My Discovery will do that with no snorkel too.

  • Speaking as an Englishman, I have to say Australia is probably the best country in the world for off-roading, but this is only complemented by the best of roader in the world - The Range Rover. Just like in this vid.

Land Cruiser boys, you know the truth hurts ;-)

  • @peanuts2105 bollobks john

  • @peanuts2105 having had a landcruser 80 and a land rover, the ONLY things I miss about the lc is diff locks on the front and rear axle and the grunt from the 4.2 ltr diesel engine it had, otherwise the landrover is a very capable machine wether it be a 90/series iii/discovery/range rover

  • @peanuts2105 I would take a Defender over a Range rover any day! Just as almost every winner of the Camel trophy races did...

  • @Reverendjim1

They had no choice in the Camel Trophy. They all had identical vehicles. Some years Discoveries were used.
