I have a 1989 Vauxhall Nova 1.0, which had exactly the same engine as the 1962 Kadett A....sure it's slow, sounds like a lawnmower and not very fuel efficient...these episodes were a testament to how unburstable that engine is....and proves that old cars FTW...built to last back then. I bet a modern Corsa couldn't do half the stuff Oliver went through and still work afterwards.

The Opel Kadett A.

The German GM equivalent of the Vauxhall Viva, but much better build quality.

Rugged and tough little car, with basic technology.

Designed in a way that even the greatest pillock could drive it.

Unfortunately also proned to rust.

That is why so few of them have survived in Western Europe.

But in a bone dry place like Botswana it will of course go on, and on , and on.....

This is beautiful. And I know this must sound so silly, but I am actually getting teary watching this.

I actually cried when I thought Oliver had died when I was watching this for the first time and squealed loudly when Hamster drives him to meet up with Clarkson and Captain Slow again.

This was probably my favourite Top Gear Special!
