pretty much everything u said is what i wanna do....all that and perhaps videogame design so what school are u going/planing/gone to and what kind of things do they have so maybe i can join this year and start college knowing what i wanna study
You can activate "Desktop" mode on a pc (I am a mac, but my mom's computer is a pc). What you do is change your display settings to do nothing when you close the lid and when connected to an external display it will be used as a main. I love your videos!!
You don't have to shutdown, just close your macbook while it's on, and it will go into standby. Then using your mouse or keyboard click or tap a button and it should automatically come out of standby and be present on your external monitor.
With your notebook on and open, NOT in mirrored mode (mirrored mode inhibits the ability to use your external monitors full resolution as it inherits the notebooks resolution), simply close your notebook, the screen will turn off and the notebook goes into hibernation, then press any key on your ext keyboard or mouse. (You may need to disconnect and reconnect usb cables) this works for me on a macbook pro 17", intel chip
To get your notebook screen back, click on the display icon in the top right by your clock, or go to system preferences, and simply click detect displays.
Yes, you can shut the lid and make it into "Desktop Mode" as long as you have a USB mouse and keyboard plugged in... and of course the external display. Just thought you'd like to pass that along to your viewers! -Jorden M. Dedicated Apple and PowerBook G4 User
He received the Mac Pro for Christmas but his parents wouldn't let him take it (or the Cinema Display for that matter) to him with college. They let him bring the Mac Pro this year but still not the Cinema Display.
I was wondering if anyone could help me (i know this probably sounds really dumb) but whenever i close the lid, my macbook goes to sleep and when i wake it up again i have to reconnect to our wireless internet. how would this work in desktop mode after you shut the lid? any help would be appreciated lol.
When i do it with my macbook i sleep it and close the lid then wake it up with the external keyboard and mouse, you need to have the power adapter on to do so.
I have an ibook G4 and i followed all these steps and it works, UNTILL about 4 seconds into having my home-screen up it falls asleep. Anyone know anything?
Hi, you seem to know what your talking about so how do "You" clean your laptop screen, keys, mouse, etc? What's the best way without damaging anything?
Does anyone know where you can find an adapter that's like more than 2 inches in length? I want to connect my 2.4 GHz MacBook with my external Dell display but can't find a good adapter. The one Apple sells is ridiculously short. Why they would make it that way, I have no idea. But yeah, does anyone know where I can buy a better one? (Mini-DVI to DVI btw).
lol its not for length its not supposed to plug into anything its supposed to convert the long chord that originally went from ur monitor to ur comp to ur macbook...don't worry at first i thought that to =P
more room on his desk probably...you see how the powerbook is on the side off the desk. If he used dual screens with it it would take up more space on his desk.
Right on. Just close the lid and wake up the laptop with the mouse (with the lid still closed): the external monitor will be automatically used. No need to restart anything.
When your MacBook is in desktop mode can you use the DVD player? Is the Apple External iSight the only webcam that will work with iChat, iMovie, and Photobooth?
depends on what you need...most people would say get the macbook pro and then if you want a big screen do what the video says and use it in desktop mode...thats what i do with my macbook...its great!
Like, it depends on how much you want to spend and what quality, and expenisive sheek yet less powerful is macbook air, expensive and very powerfl yet no so sheek is macbook pro.
I'm a graphics designer, photo editor, photographer, and a video editor. Not to be a dick but if your all of these your very well paid and if your well paid and doing all of these career focuses then your not in school for sure. so you should have said I do video editing & photo editing on my system.
cuz in mac if u want u can configure it so every time u put then mac to sleep or shutting of and turning on the backgrand can change just in macs not in boring pcs macs rule!
no is not actually this dude dosent know how to do it well en mac is the same u just plug it and ur all set actually in mac u can extend ur desxktop an do mirror or even just use one of the to displays in pc u cant cuz there stupid macs rule!
Another way is to go into system prefrences and go into energy saver. Disable sleep when lid is closed. Then set a hot corner in the desktop/screensaver prefpane. Then goto that hot corner to shut the screen off. Then close the lid.
ummmm... wh is this useful, other than getting files from one comp to another, which u can do with e-mail. A laptop is supposed to be portable and wen u hook it up its just like a desktop but using twice as much energy
The aim in desktop mode isn't to transfer files, but to use another, larger monitor. Many people actually suggest that you have another monitor so that you can save your laptops monitor.
Also, if you do graphic design work from your laptop, it can help to switch to a higher resolution monitor.
