  • my macbook´s screen got damaged and i can not see anything on the display so i had to hock it up to my tv to use it

  • Thank you!! I was looking for this ;) Happy Holidays

  • i love apple i love their phones and their computers i was trying to those

  • what is that back ground

  • yes. I hear the familiar bong sound. yes. the bong sound; BRrrlbrlbrblrblrlrl.

  • @ZZombyWooff lmao no shit riight!

  • I will put 0:00 - 0:48 to mah desktop video with audio.

  • don't use a mac

  • i usually just sleep my macbook then hit some keys on the keyboard and it wakes up in desktop mode :D

  • hey david it's tony does this work only for mac

  • @TonysTechnology I believe it should work for windows, but check online.

  • @TonysTechnology no, its the exact same thing on windows

  • Why not use both displays?

  • @xjod9 Yeah I don't know why you wouldn't. If you're home with a separate display, you'd be able to have the laptop charging... weird... hehe

  • @xjod9 power efficiency? idk lol

  • @xjod9 thats what i do with my laptop

  • where did you get your wall paper?? the one with the peinguine

  • where did you get your wall paper??

  • Comment removed

  • like some one is going to see and hack ur comp when ur keyboard is soo far away to even see what ur typing

  • pretty much everything u said is what i wanna do....all that and perhaps videogame design so what school are u going/planing/gone to and what kind of things do they have so maybe i can join this year and start college knowing what i wanna study

  • macbook pro works differently from powerbook G4! but thanks anyway

  • that was a slow boot my windows 7 compaq laptop starts quicker than that

  • You relise it is like a 4/5 year old computer right?

  • @codyroxx101 Macs last for a very long time :)

  • that is quite an old computer though. He now has a Mac Pro that would probably boot much faster than the powerbook.

  • it is an old powerbook from like 2003 your windows 7 compaq is most likely alot newer then that

  • um its not a newer mac?

  • @danielc365 hahahaha, well i actually hope your PC (Yes your PC) boots up faster, cause this mac is old.

But it still boots up faster than a month old vista PC :P

  • true true I used to have a vista PC, switched to Mac, installed XP on the mac, BEAST combination!!

  • You can activate "Desktop" mode on a pc (I am a mac, but my mom's computer is a pc). What you do is change your display settings to do nothing when you close the lid and when connected to an external display it will be used as a main. I love your videos!!

  • jon did this and he did it so much easier

    (jon4lakers)

  • OMFG! ur gorgeous:P

  • ha ha ur gay...... hey dave you have a gay viewer HA

  • @thegreenpro He apparently also has an immature viewer as well.

  • dont need to shut down first, just close your mac use a mouse to wake it up and it will display on your external display

  • @kyIeeeeeee yes you do need to shut it down! hey like ur channel

  • Why don't you use dual screen?

  • its a old computer and them are not good at dual screen

  • Wow, it works with a macbookpro but not a macbook, wired.

  • no it does work with a MacBook

  • lol u mean weird?

  • should i got a powerbook

  • pc do it the same way

  • cool video David, you=the best!!

  • David, I am good. Thank you. (JK) You always ask how were doing. :D

  • is that water that ur drinking? not mtn dew? lol jk

  • You don't have to shutdown, just close your macbook while it's on, and it will go into standby. Then using your mouse or keyboard click or tap a button and it should automatically come out of standby and be present on your external monitor.

  • i take the malnutritioned comment back-ur fine just how u r mr goon lol x

  • is the powerbook g4 still worth it today? are there alot of modern small utility apps that support power pc still?

  • hahaha i call it bong!

    i call you high!

  • where did you get that mario action-figure

  • lol, you didnt need to move/ hide the keyboard

  • xD Haha Such long hair

    Nice tip!

  • Windows users can do it "Somehow"?

You do it the exact same way.

  • the reason i asked was because the g4s had tiger and i didnt know if he upgraded or not

  • With your notebook on and open, NOT in mirrored mode (mirrored mode inhibits the ability to use your external monitors full resolution as it inherits the notebooks resolution), simply close your notebook, the screen will turn off and the notebook goes into hibernation, then press any key on your ext keyboard or mouse. (You may need to disconnect and reconnect usb cables) this works for me on a macbook pro 17", intel chip

  • To get your notebook screen back, click on the display icon in the top right by your clock, or go to system preferences, and simply click detect displays.

  • how do u conect a monitor to ur mac

  • Through the DVI or the Mini Display Port

  • do u have tiger or leopard

  • he has leopard on his mac pro and powerbook

  • he has tiger on his powerbook

  • On windows xp it does not work on home edition you have to have the windows xp professional.

  • in a pc you need a base cuss i have a pc and did the same way as david and my laptop jst blocked my desktopp

  • are you going to sale your powerbook g4

  • Yes, you can shut the lid and make it into "Desktop Mode" as long as you have a USB mouse and keyboard plugged in... and of course the external display. Just thought you'd like to pass that along to your viewers! -Jorden M. Dedicated Apple and PowerBook G4 User

  • What cables are you using to connect your powerbook and monitor? How much do they cost and where? Thanks

  • is thisbefore u bought the mac pro.

  • He received the Mac Pro for Christmas but his parents wouldn't let him take it (or the Cinema Display for that matter) to him with college. They let him bring the Mac Pro this year but still not the Cinema Display.

  • he is stripping?

  • can you still do this with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

  • no offense but your mac is reallyy loud i can here the ticking noise of the processor

  • Well it is an older mac.

  • wahts your laptop called

  • Powerbook G4

  • Wait a sec... your "bong" came out of your speakers, on my MacBook it always comes out of the crappy internal speakers. How did you achieve this?

  • as long as you speakers are plugged in when you turn it on it should come out of the external speakers

  • That's Great,

I know how it works in every Computer and in PC i do this but in Mac never because i don't have one!!

  • I want to connect my macbook to my imac, how do i do that?

  • You can't connect the MacBook to the iMac's display without ripping out the cable inside the iMac and stuff.

  • Very nice video!

I was wandering how to put my macbook into desktop mode. Really great! Thanx

  • what your get your macbook pro can i buy your powermac

  • ya u need an adapter tho

  • I was wondering if anyone could help me (i know this probably sounds really dumb) but whenever i close the lid, my macbook goes to sleep and when i wake it up again i have to reconnect to our wireless internet. how would this work in desktop mode after you shut the lid? any help would be appreciated lol.

  • When i do it with my macbook i sleep it and close the lid then wake it up with the external keyboard and mouse, you need to have the power adapter on to do so.

  • I have an ibook G4 and i followed all these steps and it works, UNTILL about 4 seconds into having my home-screen up it falls asleep. Anyone know anything?

  • turn your mac on close the lid when its in standby press a key on your external keyboard it should wake up in desktop mode

  • all you have to do is put it in sleep mode, then plug in a usb thing

  • Hi, you seem to know what your talking about so how do "You" clean your laptop screen, keys, mouse, etc? What's the best way without damaging anything?

  • what cord do u use to connect ur monitor to ur laptop? do you plug your keboard and mouse into the laptop?

  • can you do the same for an ibook g3?

  • The background in this video: Can you put it on your website as a download?

  • Yup! It'll be online shortly.

  • can i do this on my ibook g3 do you know at all please or if there is a hack to do this with an ibook

  • iBook g3.... i miss those

  • cool dude! thanks

  • the dvi / vga lead from your moniter goes into the mini dvi to ....

  • 'dedicated windows user' lol

  • The MacBook Pros screen is brighter u no. But that dosent mean this isnt useful.

  • he doesn't have a MacBook Pro though?

  • No, he dosent

  • i <3333333 apple n mac!!1

  • Never mind. I found a solution =)

  • Does anyone know where you can find an adapter that's like more than 2 inches in length? I want to connect my 2.4 GHz MacBook with my external Dell display but can't find a good adapter. The one Apple sells is ridiculously short. Why they would make it that way, I have no idea. But yeah, does anyone know where I can buy a better one? (Mini-DVI to DVI btw).

  • lol its not for length its not supposed to plug into anything its supposed to convert the long chord that originally went from ur monitor to ur comp to ur macbook...don't worry at first i thought that to =P

  • hey could you make a video about the mac air

  • u can do it when comp is on it just goes to blue screens on both like u have just clicked detect displays then it comes on

  • yes, you can. There are adapters that well do that. Or you don`t on some Computers... ask me any comment for macs.

i work in the mac store...

    ByYyY

  • yeah, theres some adapters to do so. Some are pretty expensive though, but you can def. do it

  • is that how you stream when your at college

  • I do dual screens on my 2.4 GHz MacBook, why dont you do dual screens?

    -Exceltia

  • more room on his desk probably...you see how the powerbook is on the side off the desk. If he used dual screens with it it would take up more space on his desk.

  • You could have just shut the screen with the mb on and then clicked the mouse and it would have woke up on the external screen

  • Right on. Just close the lid and wake up the laptop with the mouse (with the lid still closed): the external monitor will be automatically used. No need to restart anything.

  • Thanks, works great! Now how is this possible in Windows I wonder(bootcamp)

  • hey i'm new on mac can u teach me more tips thnx

  • Do you think that work with the current gen macbooks?

  • yea it does work with the current MacBook's. Do it all the time :D

  • I looooooooooooooove mac.

    nice video

  • When your MacBook is in desktop mode can you use the DVD player? Is the Apple External iSight the only webcam that will work with iChat, iMovie, and Photobooth?

  • just did it with my macbook after i finally got a wireless keyboard :)

  • U just close it while its on and wake it back up and then you will be in desktop mod

  • should i get a mac pro laptop or desktop

  • depends on what you need...most people would say get the macbook pro and then if you want a big screen do what the video says and use it in desktop mode...thats what i do with my macbook...its great!

  • what macbook should i get

  • depends on how much storage u need. I got the 1299 version. Its amazing..

  • Like, it depends on how much you want to spend and what quality, and expenisive sheek yet less powerful is macbook air, expensive and very powerfl yet no so sheek is macbook pro.

  • to do it on a windows pc you just plug your screen in very easy and if you want to know what else you can do with a laptop and a screen at my channel

    thanks

  • Wouldnt you want to have dual screens if you are all of those? i use a dual moniter with my macbook pro.

  • DONG!!!!!!!!!!

  • cani do it with the mac book pro

  • yep

  • thanks

  • its the same thing fr windows

  • dude your hair looks better now.

  • I'm a graphics designer, photo editor, photographer, and a video editor. Not to be a dick but if your all of these your very well paid and if your well paid and doing all of these career focuses then your not in school for sure. so you should have said I do video editing & photo editing on my system.

  • Why did your background change inbetween your turning it off and turning it on?

  • cuz in mac if u want u can configure it so every time u put then mac to sleep or shutting of and turning on the backgrand can change just in macs not in boring pcs macs rule!

  • oh thanks

  • you can do it with a pc and is much easier than mac all you do is connect and your done you dont have to even turn it off

  • no is not actually this dude dosent know how to do it well en mac is the same u just plug it and ur all set actually in mac u can extend ur desxktop an do mirror or even just use one of the to displays in pc u cant cuz there stupid macs rule!

  • What happened with the iMac you upgraded and did tiger install well and do u have any os x CD VERSION what i could buy from you

  • Why Don't you do dual displays ?

  • Hey

Does your MacBook Pro have the Glossy or the Matte screen? I'm soon buying a MacBook Pro... it will be my first ever Mac. =]

So im wondering which to get Glossy or Matte.

  • Get a matte because glossy is reeeaaaallllyy saturated and theres lots of glare.

  • i was going with the matte anyways =]

    thanks

  • shut up squir u idiot

  • He has the old Powerbook G4, looks just like the new MacBook Pro's.

  • thanks

  • glossy is THE BEST

  • David how do you connect your powerbook g4 to desk top mode

  • Does it work with a Macbook?

  • yeah

    any mac notebook

  • yeh

  • just a quetstion I asked myself when I wanted to do this: Won't the heat of the processor and harddrive kind of damage the display under the lid?

  • its pretty much the same fr PC

  • hey how much were those computers

  • David, can you send me a link for that wallpaper on the notebook? I would appreciate that.

    Sincerily,(DellUser7991)

  • I got that same wallpaper on your powerbook on my G3 iMac from interfacelift. Nice

  • PC users can do desktop mode, but first you need to make your windows laptop recognise the display, I HATE IT

  • Despite just hitting FN+F5 ..... ya.... real hard.

  • Can you send me a link for the wallpaper on the Macbook Pro? That would be great. Keep up the good work, DellUser7991

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Another way is to go into system prefrences and go into energy saver. Disable sleep when lid is closed. Then set a hot corner in the desktop/screensaver prefpane. Then goto that hot corner to shut the screen off. Then close the lid.

  • Thanx for sharing!

But dude, seriously, how am i gonna be able to see your freaking password from so far away?

    greetz

  • With the way things are going on these days, you never be sure about everything.

    -Flint$

  • Hi!

How cute your wallpaper. Did you do it yourself?

    Mac's keyboard looks awesome.

  • ummmm... wh is this useful, other than getting files from one comp to another, which u can do with e-mail. A laptop is supposed to be portable and wen u hook it up its just like a desktop but using twice as much energy

  • The aim in desktop mode isn't to transfer files, but to use another, larger monitor. Many people actually suggest that you have another monitor so that you can save your laptops monitor.

Also, if you do graphic design work from your laptop, it can help to switch to a higher resolution monitor.

  • Sorry, this was supposed to post under "IamMcChubba's" post...

  • how the hell is it using twice the energy if the screen is off?

not to mention that laptop components are usually low-power consumption devices which means that dave's setup uses 1/4th the power of a normal tower PC.
