Cayenne is NOT ugly. It is designed to be a brute with finesse, and that is exactly what it looks like. Jeremy Clarkson is a nagging bitch, and the only reason he hates Porsche so much, is that he simply cannot find anything to nag about. They are too well designed and too well built. End of story

Such an amazing machine, forget the looks for a minute. The fact that a 2.5 ton tank can handle that good is fantastic. And they are pretty affordable now, the second hand market is full of the first generation Cayenne's for less than €20K.

I know what I'm going to get when I'm making that kind of money. :D

@Janusha dude a lot of stuff in the touareg is designed by porsche not the other way around.. be sure ur right before u comment ;-) porsche has a lot of experience with off road and they have worked with vw in the past so they started the cayenne/touareg together and porsche designed most of both except the exterior and engine/gearbox etc of the touareg.. and im not even a real porsche fan ;-)

I really dont like Porsches. They are too german for my taste. However there is no denying their success and the technological masterpieces that they are. Also I dont mind much which came first. The Touareg or the Cayenne. Platform sharing is common and usually a good thing. The Bentley Continental GT is a VW Phaeton. This is perfectly fine since its all whithin the VW group.

i just think its a great allround car and not a pointless one like an Bmw X5 which u cant even buy with offroad tires... and the cayenne is great value for money and it doesn't have the big problem most porsche's etc have and thats u cant drive them every day.. with a cayenne u can and with a big smile on ur face while u let all the other suv's behind you and no problem if you accidentally run in to a desert.... ;-) u dont have to treat it as a supercar..

Probably the best overall car you can get today regardless of price is a BMW X5. Its more car than anyone will ever need and tyres ? Put on what you like. Obviously dont expct to see one at the dealers with enormous mudding tyres. The reason you wouldnt use a Porsche for every day car would be the thought of maintaining its pricetag for when you want to sell it. Not a lack of capabilities.

@Janusha dude a x5 totally sucks with offroad use and was build to be fast and tough on road suv.. that why there are no offroad tyres available... its not really designed for off road its designed to look good while you bring your kids to school in a safe way with it.... with a proper suv like a cayenne its posibble to bring your kids safe to school and then climb a mountain with it... and maintaining a cayenne is not that bad and if your a true suv user u drive it all the way till the end..

Most people dont need to pull lumber out of the woods or reach a mountain top. The sporty SUV market is rather small. There is the BMW X5 - X6, Cayenne and Toyota Landcruiser and the top end Land Rovers. None of them are for heavy work. As is reflected by their rather steep price.

cayenne is nice, but can't see why anyone would buy it over a range rover - looks much worse, and range rover interior & technology is AWESOME. a range rover would even get better mpg, and thats something, for a rangie

oh... and I think the 1st generation Cayenne (2008) with the facelift looks really good.

The 2010 Cayenne looks FAR better. Jeremy hates EVERY Porsche even though the 2010 911 PDK beats his precious Ferrari 458 from 0-60. The new 911 absolutely smoked a GT-R, ZR-1 and even the R8 V-10 on M5board. Germany make the best cars no question about it. BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi.. they INVENTED the car for god sake.

Just don't get the appeal of this thing - for buyers I mean, I totally understand why Porsche builds it. It's ugly, obscenely heavy, thirsty, too expensive and none of its owners would EVER take it off road, so SUV capability is meaningless.

If you like it's vibe, just get it's far less-expensive (and far more attractive) fraternal twin, the VW Tuareg.
