this same video can be found in english... yeah the producers gave all the animals a bunch of food soaked in alcohol so they could make this award winning fake-documentary. so thanks to them people think elephants can get drunk from marula, and thanks to Disney people think lemmings walk off cliffs. (the producers forced them to crowd together at the edge of a cliff)
@cypresso56 The trees actually don't contain alcohol. this video was a sort of "scandal". the animals in the video were given alcohol and made to look like the alcohol came form the fruit. Scientists have done studies and concluded that there are no alcohol contents in the fruit. the fruit are very high in vitamin c and the seeds are high in protein.
@tmwalk Its not a french documentary - its made in south africa by the south african Jamie Uys - and released in english as Animals are Beautiful. This is just a french dub.
Furthermore, the footage has been debunked as a staged. Biologists have researched into the subject, and its all a myth. Over-ripe marula does not contain alcohol - search for the fruit on wikiped to get references on this matter.
It's difficult to believe that an elephant would consume so much of the fruit to get so drunk it couldn't walk... looks to me kinda like they've been sedated :/
In the movie Animals Are Beautiful People by Jamie Uys, released in 1974, some scenes portray elephants, warthogs and monkeys becoming intoxicated from eating fermented marula fruit. Later research showed that these scenes were improbable and, in all probability, staged. Elephants would need a huge amount of fermented marulas to have any effect on them, and other animals prefer the ripe fruit.
according to the websit e I found the fruit contains 1% to 3% alcohol not enough to get an elephant drunk .

This is a real video from a French documentary about Africa . You won't
understand a word, but the video's a hoot.
There are trees that grow in Africa which, once a year, produce
very juicy fruits that contain a large percentage of alcohol.
Because there is a shortage of water, as soon as the fruits
are ripe, animals come there to help protect themselves from the heat.
What happens next, you can watch for yourselves. Pretty funny!
