I first time hear this song was sing my first first girl. Even is over is 25 years old, I still i love this song, It make me to thing my girl friend with me many thing. Amy I love you!
This is one of the songs I have always loved. I was a great john denver fan. I used to sing this to my children when they were babies as i rocked them. My son now 40 called me one day and said he was having lunch and it was playing and he couldn't understand why he knew all the words to this song. I guess I sang it a lot.
In answer to someone's question about the location of this concert, although it is difficult to tell for sure, it might be Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver.
I had the pleasure of seeing him six times. My favorites were the night of my 21st birthday at Red Rocks in 1981; in New Orleans for his "The Man and His Music" solo tour (around 1985)... just John with a few guitars and one song on the piano; and finally, two weeks to the day before he died... in Houston with the Houston Symphony.
I first learned this song in camp back during the alte 1960's and have enjoyed it ever since. Saw Denver in Concert in fall 1974 in Knxville TN. Got to shake hands with him at the stage door as he went to the limo.
Wonderful -- Just like John Denver. I thank my God for this man, his love for peace and nature and especially for his beautiful music!! Thanks to windsong1962 for posting this video. It means so much to so many people!
BEAUTIFUL!!!! First saw him do this at Madison Square Garden back in 1974 and can still close my eyes and see that night............May this beautiful light shine for ever! And it will........ because of all you wonderful people who post these wonderful videos for us all to share and enjoy that light can never fade away!
You can all get this song and the whole Australia 1977 concert when it is released worldwide on 12 October as part of a 5-DVD boxset 'John Denver Around the World Live'. The boxset also includes fully remastered concerts in England and Japan as well as two wonderful documentaries.
@windsong1a My comment was written quite a while back (certainly more than a year ago) and before it was revealed that 'Today' would not be included in the DVD boxset copy of the Australian concert. It was reported that the original tape copy of 'Today' was damaged and it could not be used.
@michaeldonegan Thank you for writing back......that is soooo SAD that performance was damaged. I have seen it though on Youtube, but it was'nt very good quality. IMO, it was one of his best and most memorable performorances ever! Thank you.
@windsong1a My pleasure. It is really sad that 'Today' could not be included. I agree that it was a brilliant performance not only of that particular song, but of all the wonderful songs that we now have on DVD.
Another oldie that brings back those sweet memories of a different time. Johnny D. always represents the best of those days and times for me. His music was a pure and true gift for all of us! Peace, John, always...
A life cut too short. John Denver was and still is loved by millions around the world. I just wish that his music would make a come back!. All the ills of the world hopefully would melt, like this song melted my heart! Thanks for posting.
This is a song I use to sing every time I saw the title of a book my mom had sitting on her in table called "Today is Mine" by Leroy Brownlow which now in my library. It is amazing how this song and that book correlate.
I never saw him concert and JD died in the month my son was born. I was planning on seeing him in concert for the first time and he was scheduled to sing in Portland, Oregon's the Rose Garden. It cuts to my soul.
Just a peice of trivia from a huge john denver fan. the first time i heard this was John singinig on An Evening with JD and i thoought he wrote it. Turns out it was written by Randy Sparks for a MGM film called advance to the rear starring glenn ford and stella stevens. John was about 15 at the time and obviosly wasnt involved, but it has become a signature peice for him.
This is one of those songs that brings out the entire range of emotions for me--it is seriously one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Thank you so much for posting this.
John sang this song in Amsterdam when I saw his concert in 1987(?) It's a very special song too me. He asked the ordiance what they would like him to sing. I was hoping for Today. He did not sing it very often on his concerts. And then he sang it. And I cried.
I'll never forget it. Miss him.
Thanks Windsong 1962 for posting this video. It's indeed FAR OUT !!!
I have an Amsterdam concert on dvd from around the mid 80's, he's dressed in a white tux and at the end of the show, 2 girls come out and present him with bunches of tulips and he thanks them with a kiss each. Does that sound like the show you were at?
wow!! live and unseen! thank you this is really rare in my books thank you! you da man! this particular john denver song is veryy well written lyrically and a very nice love song
..WOW!!..rare,,simply sublime!! As much as Randy co-wrote the lyrics,,,John made it his song--"now is my story,i'l laugh & i'l cry & i'l sing"---That's what John did..shared his innermost feelings with us as if we were his good friends--so emotive!! Thank u for sharing this hun!! Hugz, Jana x
I don't know where, but he mentions the album 'an evening with john denver' which was 1975, so it must have been around that time. Thank you for your comments duane - check out massassa2008's lovely John Denver uploads !

@michaeldonegan Are you sure it's on the new DVD boxset? I've looked at some of the listings and don't see "Today" on the Australia concert.
