  • what is the camera you use?

  • @dodomaxweel its a Canon Vixia Hf 11

  • This Steadycam is a kind of bullshit, better buying a flycam 3000

  • lucky that i found this review before buying it .. thks

  • Came across the bad reviews of the Modo. Having seen your vid, I still think the results are way better than one could get this by holding the camera in his hand only.

    I think I'm a try this for 70 €.

Also: With image stabilization you mean the setting in the camera, right? That should be on if not on a tripod anyway, I would say.

Or is there a way to postprocess? (I'm new to videoing and will use a Cybershot DSC-H70 and a Samsung SMX-F50 and Apple's iMovie to postprocess.)

  • WHATS THE MUSIC PLAYIN IN THE BEGGINING OF THE VIDE0?

  • The best affordable steadicam I've found is the Cam Caddie Scorpion. $38 and you have something sturdy and well designed that will improve all the shots you take, slow or fast.

  • Yeah, it really doesn't look like it does that much that you couldn't do yourself. But I hear you, for $100 or less, it might be worth it if you think it helps a bit.

  • dammit...my camera moves smother without it!

hdr cx 550 a good piece

  • he needs to shave b4 present the product.

  • @kombizz05 only if you let me use your hat.

  • It looks the same as if you had just held the camera carefully, I wonder why Manfrotto have no addressed all the complaints and just sent their customers a replacement part and updated their newly manufactured ones?

  • hmmm, u would think that a tool like this that looks quite simple as its only balancing a camera would be easy to duplicate. I think from footage ive seen with 1st time steadicam merlin users looks far far better. Perhaps the extra $ is worth it.

  • Maybe you should spray some spray lubricant on the connector joint?

  • @unlearny yep thats a good idea

  • пабрейся мудак ти тупарилий

  • Why is there a fart sound @ 3:46?..........LOL!

  • Nice microphone!

    what's the model?

  • what u think is it good for dslr canon eos 60d

  • I think I would do better just holding it steady myself lol.

  • what is the difference between a grip handle and a Steadicam?. Which is better for me for short films? I have a Canon Vixia HG21.

Between Opteka X-GRIP and Manfrotto 585 ModoSteady? which do you recommend for short films?

  • @venerojo well if you are just doing short films i would go with the 585 because it is a real steady cam and can be used as other things like a shoulder mount. the x-grip is ok.. not as good in my book.

  • @venerojo Get a Glidecam. Better than both Manfrotto and the Steadycam

  • @richieramone1 "true" but its all in how much money you want to invest.. There is no reason to sink the cash into a pro rig if you are filming your family at Christmas.

  • @nx2overide The flycam nano is actually a great choice too. It gets highly pro results and is only 115$ if you search up some tests here on youtube you will see what I mean. :)

  • @Alvinwhatup2 right on!! thats cool ill check it out!

  • I have a steady cam that i build that i only charge 50 Bucks... I have have been told its better than a 300 buck pro steady cam...Also mine u can use any and all cameras of any type....However, this steady cam is more built for cameras that u would buy from Walmart.... If u like to buy one and try it out let me know.... I will be making a build video on it here soon!

  • I want to buy one for my JVC Picsio

  • thanks for the video, and would it help if you sprayed some WD40 or other oil into the ball joint to reduce the chppiness

  • @danstickman1 possibly, I made the ball joint a little smoother using auto grease. im sure WD40 would do the same thing..

  • @nx2overide thanks

  • What's the cam you're using? I like the option to attach an external mic. I've got a slim Aiptek HD one like the one on your tripod but the internal mic is useless. Cheers

  • @thoughtgrenades My cam is a Canon vixia Hf11.. yep the Aptek sound does suck.. that was my 1st digital cam for making videos for the tube but i bought the cannon as soon as i could afford it.

  • @nx2overide Hey mate, hope you've been well. I've been going insane trying to build my own steadicam. BTW if u like cameras as much as I do, give the Kodak Zi8 a whirl. Quality is pretty good & you can attach an external mic to it. I love it! Will sell my Aiptek now as I don't need it.

  • You should try the Blackbird Stabilizer, in my opinion its an improved version of the Merlin, it is easier for the first time user in many ways, static balancing, dynamic balancing and operation, it has a friction control gimbal that works like a charm.

  • dang man i love you camera set up. I MAKE VIDEOS AND AM LOOKING FOR STEADY CAMERAS STUFF. I only have the kodak playsport, i know it can't replace a real cam but it works on what im useing it for and it water proof. Thanks for the great info on this product sr. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY VIDS. YOU CAN LOOK WHY I NEED IT I DONT HAVE STEADY HANDS. LOL

  • You shouldn't put your drink on the keys of your keyboard.

Unless you don't like your keyboard.

  • @hesellsmystuff Thanks for the heads up, but its a reem of CDrs in the lid turned upside down. It doesn look like a cup though... well exept for the fact the contents look green. lol .. :)

  • that manfrotto can't beat merlin performance

  • @pompeii940 of course not this is a "100 dollar steady cam".. the Merlin & the Glidecam 4000 HD are the ones I like the best.. I'm going with the 4000 myself with the vest.

  • @nx2overide i'm here in thailand and merlin cost about 1600us dollar

i start to think order a glidecam hd2000 500usd is the best to use coz i can handle a low weight camera ,and maybe it's fit to you too(or you already buy another h1a cam) haha

  • doesnt seem to work so well... its not convincing... but thank you for the video~

  • i have to admit, without being a nay-saying, it looks like a piece of shit. not really the desired effect

  • is the glidecam 2000 better then the merlin? which one should i get for my 5d and pmw ex3?

thanks for your time in answering it guys by the way i am from Brazil in south america

  • I have that same camera, What mic and lens are you using on that baby? Could you reply on my channel please, thatnks bud

  • Hey Thanks for sharing. Great work, but the product itself doesn't seem to fly that smooth isn't it? Or is just because your Canon is too light! Could be. Did you try with a heavier camera?

    I love the soundtrack!

  • enjoy your aids

  • Hello, Very good demo. I would like to replace the handle. Just wondering if you would take a look at what I'm trying to do and post your thoughts...

    Search for:

"Manfrotto Motosteady Requesting Help with Replacing the Handle"

    Thank You...

  • Hey, i've ordered this steadicam and it's going to arrive in a few days. Glad you made this video... i feel it was a good decision to purchase it and i know i'm going to enjoy using the steadicam.

  • I forgot to mention, for the chest harness either motorcross body armour or a hockey chest protector both work well..Cheers!

  • A swingarm style monitor mount attached to a simple chest harness works wonders. You do have to come up with an adaptor for your steadicam handle, but the right sized diameter of pipe usually does the trick. Think along the lines of the Minigun mount in Aliens 2..gets the weight of your wrists as well..Cheers!

  • thanks for the video.. I got a modosteady for x-mas. It's very challenging getting the balance.

I can see what you're saying about the handle having a bit too much friction.

I'm using this with a canon vixia hf s11 which by itself only weighs a pound and would probably work better but I've got a rode videomic on it and it seems that the two combined together are too much weight for the modosteady.

The modo steady is unable to correct itself and keep things stable.

    Needs more weight.

  • I've seen a guy rubber band a few AA batteries to the counter weight to give it more balance. I have a canon vixia hf200. Even with the slider all the way right it still leans left. A trick I learned is to twist the counter weight slightly right to compensate. Overall I'd say that the modosteady is still in the prototype stage. A few minor changes would make this thing really cool. As of now it's still in the "kind of cool, but still sucks" category. Thanks for posting.

  • Merlin is better, but you are NOT supposed to bend the handle - ie the handle should be PERPENDICULAR TO THE GROUND AT ALL TIMES - just like the merlin, so you kind of have to balance it like a broom w/ your wrist.

Try keeping the handle COMPLETELY VERTICAL

  • rock on thanks as Im new to the use of these things and am still learning.

  • i should really get me one of those...

  • you see that little and waving at you?

  • we have the same tripod

  • Fancy yard.

  • I need a new camera... mine sucks so bad... I'm too poor.

  • I think for B horror films your setup would be great. Personally I think the horror genre in general works better when the camera work isn't perfectly smooth. Just gives it that little added creepy feel.

Go back and watch some classic 70's horror flicks. The camera work can be a little choppy, but it seems to add to the atmosphere rather than be a hindrance.

Good luck man, sounds like a blast.

  • personally dude i think the bag is better and if u can cud u send me the civic i r in love with it

  • Great info.!

You have a beautiful shade of Camillias !

  • so that's how they do it in the movies.

  • well...you have nice potted plants, they look very stable, the rose bush is neat too and it looks like it would be good to hide behind, the hedges as well.....have you ever run into the house?...i mean literally...your parking tolerance is calibrated to within fractions of an inch....im going to start calling you mr. spooky, the way you move with that thing !! ...i absolutely adore that shirt...wish i had one like that....how did you master walking backwards in slow motion? that is so cool(huggs

  • Only $100 eh? Not bad!

  • wait what does that do? allow easier rotation of the cam? floating bag effect?

  • Pretty much just makes the cam glyde when you walk with it so its soothe motion..

  • Whoa... i noticed that you have the arms all the way extended. you should probably make them closer together... by a lot. Also, there looks to be a lot of weights on the bottom for such a small cam, that it'll have the pendulum affect on it, so that whenever you move it, the weights want to stay where they are.

  • Yep yep i noticed the arm thing my self after I uploaded it.. I been trying different things to make the video smother.. thanks for the tips though I'm still to get the movement right :)

  • Awesome.

My camera is not even meant to be a video camera. i need a new one.

  • elbow tight to your side? maybe?

  • ill give it a try.. im still new to this stuff haha. Thanks

  • was just the only thing I could think of that might clean it up that much more.

  • beats the shit outta my cam

  • I'm saving for a Sony Handycam HDR-FX7but is $2000. I need this to actually start making real films.. thats my goal, to make B horror films.

  • Those flowers are really pretty at 3:40

Is that a shotgun mic attached to that camera you are holding?

  • Yep its an awsome mic too i love it :)

  • Hey thanks very much man.

I was begining to look at getting one and this one kept popping up but i wasnt sure if i should trust the reviews.

  • Yep it was ok.. not great.. im going to have my homemade on built this weekend we will see if 100 dollars or 18 bux is woth it.

  • I'm going to best the $18 dollar one might be better, sometimes it's that way lol

  • panning looked great but movement was about the same as the bag

  • True . I agree and I dont have a steady hand so you can still see its bouncy.

  • Nout sure about the steady cam. But that is one sweet fucking camera!

  • Cool video. I have looked at buying a steadycam before but being heavy into DIY I would probably build one before I bought one. =)

    - Heidi

  • yep i agree Im building one and i havent even put my bottom weight on yet and the video i took of me goofing around with it looks ok. 18 dollars

  • Peace and Love!

  • how much did it cost though?

  • $100 pretty cheep

  • Very cool. I bought a green screen a new video will be up next week. Lots of fun.

  • rock on cant wait to see it!

  • "you can't always get,what you want" Mick Jagger...lol

  • True.. but im happy with what i have.

  • I'm actually building one also! LOL

I'll keep you up to date on whether mine works also. :-)

  • rock on yep keep me up to date with it as the steady I made is comming along but the glyde im building is going to take a while longer.

  • you 5 stars...beard - mmmm not so much.

  • Cool stuff.

The way I keep my camera steady is not drinking before I record. lol

  • yes very interesting indeed, thank you for this video

btw what is the music we hear when you do your tests, I love it !!

  • dude!! I totally have that lava lamp in the bg!! its awesome!! :D

  • This is very good info. I have been looking into buying one and this helps a lot! Thanks

  • All very interesting, am keen to see you home made one and glide cam.

  • yep im already surprized that 18 dollars I have sunk in to the homemade steady works pretty good.
