I took my peugeot 407 to Jeff, had the wheel bearings changed. honest job, good price and photos of the job given. Shame I am 300 miles away as im just having my fly wheel replaced, unfortunatly not by Jeff.
In all honesty it is the springs that ware, there can also be excessive ware to the face of the flywheel and the bearing in the centre, but mostly the springs...
Is it just the springs that wear out or some other part?
There is no way I would put a normal one in a diesel car as it causes far too much vibration and the clutch itself feels "strange". The DMF is a real improvement.
There is no owner that would want a single mass conversion for the L200, unless the owner wants a wrecked gearbox. Nice thought though, but doesnt work in practice. Plus on every single mass conversion I have met, the owner has been unhappy with the feel of the clutch.
You wouldnt want to fit a standard flywheel to an L200. The function of the Dual Mass Flywheel or DMF is to isolate torsion crankshaft spikes created by diesel engines with high compression ratios. By eliminating the torsion spikes, the system eliminates any potential damage to the transmission gear teeth. If the DMF was not used the torsional frequencies could damage to the transmission. Plus there are no 'classic type' replacements available for this vehicle.
@garageexeter i think you will find that in a single mass conversion kit the clutch plate will have been modified with springs to replace the torsional dampening of the dual mass flywheel.
We wouldnt advise using a used DMF. Well done on checking out our vid. Sorry its cost you money! But will save you having to do the job twice.
