  • Watch mine,

    Rate and comment too,

    Thanks :D

  • How in the world did you get such dark images without adding noise/grain to the image? I try to light my vids like this, but always get fuzz.By the way, what kinda lights did you use?

    This was really cool!

  • @sonne5 - most of the footage was shot during the day or with strong work lights. and i colour corrected the footage to look like night. all footage was shot at 0db of gain.

  • NICE job! Cant wait to see the rest! Check out mine on my page titled THE BASEMENT. I think you will like it. Can you let me know when this is finished! Love the doll..

  • Did you change the lighting preset on the HV20...this is really nice footage...also what rendering codec do you use?

  • Very good video quality, I like the atmosphere and the shock effects at the ending :-)

  • i love itt.

  • The ending for this video, since you have Magic Bullet.Make it were when he is making the Phone Call, do a boot leg matrix..(you know were the camera circles around the subject slow mode almost/as there still it can be achieved even better with a steaycam)and use magic bullet to do transition into a washed out bleach look(saving private ryan)to convey us viewers hes no longer in that house but some where else in time,Maybe whatever is lurking in your build-up is trying to let him know something.

  • Hey "AfricanMarty" Great video!I just Bought the New HV30 love the camera and have been experimenting with lock exposure trick. The thing is when I point the camera at a light source I guess depending on the intensity of the light source I get different apature settings everytime I set it?Once I had it locked on f56?I dont know about this the lowest setting is f8 not f56 let me know how you mastered the locking techinque because I realy like the way you achieved the video so far!

  • that was pretty ace! had some really good shots in that, built up a nice atmosphere. you defo need to do more with that doll!

  • Good lighting effects, interesting development, you gotta f**kin finish this though

  • thanks mate, i have kinda put thins on hold ( for hown long i dont know ) i just have alot on my plate right now. but will update wheni have more, check out my vimeo page for the 720p HD version.

  • hi marty its james ur lil cu ... how r u im watchin it now lol

  • Creepy vid, liked it. How would you rate the HV20 on low light performance on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being great?

  • 9 its really good in low light ( when using the no gain trick i would give it a 10 ).

  • I think the light on this film is TOO low.. SO low that it's annoying for the eye, and you really try to make out whats happening.

It distracts from the story and movie itsself, making it lass pleasurable.. But overall, this is quite cool.. Just the light being annoying.

  • i love it! the scream at 1:32 sounds so much like the one on that old nickelodeon show, "Aahhh Real Monsters!" This really has that horror film look.

  • thanks, thats what i am going for :) i'm uploading a long verion ( with all the footage shot so far - though it is a rough cut still needs sound FX and CGI to be added ) but will post when its up. regards Marty.

  • Cool vid!

  • thankyou, menas alot :) - Marty.

  • omg i'm so glad somebody has a movie using this cam cause i'm a filmmaker @ asu and i just bought mines yesterday and i wanted the jvc camera but my dad was like son this is the bomb....and i believed him and from lookin at these video test and this film this cam is the shit......... what did you edit with (program?).....and as far as sound fx try riot gear i have it and it is the shit.......but great film man and if i have questions i will def my hollering at you.....

  • thanks mate, yes the camera won alot of award and is highly respected consumer cam. good luck with your movies, when you get some clips up send me the links.

  • How do you get no grain!? My HV20 has MAJOR noise.

  • mine has grain too belive me !!! but you have to set set the exposure and lock it apature to f1.8 to stop gain from coming in ( only when shooting in doors and in low light situations ) and using cine mode alwazys helps to reduce gain. you can olso look into buying 'neatvideo' plugin for premier,AE,vegas and others wich does an amazing job on removing grain highly rocommend it !!! regards Marty.

  • Ok, thanks!

  • no problem :)

  • WoW.. that is amazing... very good use of the light. I´m looking forward to my hv20 ;)

  • thanks :) you'll love your HV20 :) - Marty.

  • just a quick thanks to all for the constructive critisism its all been very helpful !! keep em coming as they are helping the film out alot :) regards Marty.

  • I don't know what it is exactly but i think there is something that don't let your movie have a real cinematic look...it could be the fact that you use 25p instead of 24p i dunno but the only moment where it looks like a film is at 2:26 i am very interesting in knowing if the pal model does give you a less cinematic look because it lacks the 24p capability...

  • i like the look of 25p, also its easy for me to work with. As its the native progressive format for my PAL HV20, but once the film is complete ( wich could be over a year as i have no time right now) i will try release a 24p version using magic bull plugin :) to see if it has a difference in cinematic look. - Marty.

  • Thanks for the reply, i am actually interested in bying this camera but what holds me back is that the pal version only does 25p and looking at the footage it looks like the videos made in 24p have a more cinematic look...it's just a frame but i still can't figure out if it really can make a difference...anyway keep up the good work i saw other of your videos and you got a incredibly good photograpy there !

  • The comments here are enough. Think of filtering the sounds while he is upstairs. You wouldn't hear sounds so 'clear' while sounds are coming from the basement. Try using low pass filters on the sounds with the shots done upstairs.

When you pass a night club on the street, all you hear is the bass... because the building itself acts as a natural low pass filter

  • i've put a low pass filter on the sound while upstairs and it worked great ! a big thanks mate. any other ideas, would be appriciated. once i've improved it i will reupload for further re-tuning. Marty.

  • you'll want to tone down some of the sound effects, i.e. that door opening at about 2:00. also the water dripping and the smoke in the basement is a little extreme, isn't this someone's house? i would suggest actually recording yourself (or the actor if it's an actor) walking around in the basement (footsteps), opening the actual door, etc. then use those sound effects. good movie otherwise, where did you get the SFX?

  • thanks for the advice its great all the good critisism i'm getting its really helping me out with this short i'm building. i'm trying to add low pass finters to tone down the trebile and help with sound. The smoke was just an idea though i think i'll keep it, as i really like it. thats a great idea ercording sound personally and using it. i'll look into it. regards Marty.

  • good vieo man but try to minimize the sound effects a lil bit to make it more original "more professional" btw did you use a standard hv20? without adaptors and without professional mics?

  • thanks for the comment means alot. i have got alot of comment re sound FX and i'm trying to minimize things but like i said its hard for me to change it ( as more of the master copyies of footage i have now, have the sound FX saved on top of them already ) but over time i'll try to improve or once i get some more footage i wont over do it with dound FX :) thanks again for the advice

  • It's very good for beginners but on a professional level i would say it just 'so so'. The sounds haven't been worked out good enough and many camera shots are too long. There should have been more variation. But still, for beginners i would say it's quite nice!

  • thanks, i'm by no means a professional. movie making is just a hobbby of mine the more i do the better i get ( i think ) as for the sound a agree i will have to tone it down. though i cant find alot of the original footage so its hard for me to change it ( as more of the master copyies of footage i have now, have the sound FX saved on top of them already ). thanks for your advice appriciate it. - Marty.

  • What the hell? That doll looks like Chucky! Great video, very creepy! Keep up the great work!

  • thanks :) its just an old doll i foud in the basement lol

  • dude! that doll was very creepy! I love it! Where are you getting your sound effects? They are good ones... Like you said... you need a good mix...

Where did you get the magic bullet software? I need to check it out!

    Keep it up!!!

  • i get my sound FX from an DVD my brother had dont know where he got it sorry, as for magic bullet i baught it online.

  • cool it should be a family member or something anyway look at my videos I'm making lots of horrors ..// Josh

  • love it man

  • thanks mate :) means alot. - Marty.

  • thanks for your comment, can you elaborate your thoughts on "sound -sounds good but it is to much" i'm always open to criticism. - marty.
