how can you completely forget about soulblade.. mostly every character has come from that game and also critical edges were debuted in that game... but no one wants to give credit were credit is due. that is why these past soul calibur games has sucked monkey nuts in my opinion!
Okay i am currently saving money for a new game i currently am choosing between soul calibur 5 and naruto ultimate ninja storm generations can anybody give me any tips on what to get or any other fighting games that are good for xbox 360 (excluding street fighter vs tekken).
Ezio really fits in nicely though and is a great character for SC (I agree with the guys, Heihachi was a lot of fun). But I'm curious how Ezio would fit in, what the story behind that is, but there's no story told, for anybody, except Pat and Py. I like how they added Devil Jin's style, that's a nice touch and thankfully they got rid of the effects clothing and weapons had in SC4, which was really crap imo. Still, there's no (fightstyle of) Talim, Zasalamel, etc. It just feels reduced overall =(

They got rid of some iconic Soul Calibur characters and either replaced them with lesser clones or new styles that aren't that great. Creation improved a bit but story modes for all the characters are missing and the extra characters and special modes are gone. It's still fun, but in many ways SC5 is disappointing
If you're going to scrutinize it, don't support your reasoning with nostalgia driven critiques. You're purely reminding yourself of what it USED to be because that's when it was a fresh game to you. Anything being improved, or changed for that matter, doesn't sit well with you? Then play the old ones. This applies to all you original Soul Calibur fan boys in capable of a non-biased observation
I can't get into this new Soul Calibur. I loved Soul Edge and Soul Calibur 1-4. Its like they took what made Soul Calibur unique and nuderd it. Then they went and ripped off game mechanics from other games and incorporated them into it self. (Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat, ect.....)

they also dont mention that playing the cpu in soul calibur is better than any other fighting game because you can customise the hell out of your guy.

The way they explain CRITICAL FINISHES (which they couldnt remember the name of) they are wrong about how and when you can preform them. you do blue electricity moves, or wear them down and break through their guard, then do it. they keep saying the game isnt technical... but then they complain about complexity with counters, meters, and super moves.

I'm a huge SC fan, however I'm extremely disappointed in this one.
The story was FINALLY descent and that was just about the only positive thing going for the game. I'm disappointed because i was hoping the game would be expanded.
Tons more clothing, tons more new (not mirror) characters.
In my opinion, this was a fail on Namco's part.
Story mode or something that could better involve your characters.
I did like it, however The game itself (especially game modes) is bland and its pretty downsize

Not to mention no more Critical Finishes. A lot of people complained forever that the series never changed. Give them change and they complain that it should never have changed. Tough scenario for the devs. Just can't please some people. For what it's worth how about that netcode huh?
@GhengisJohn Man change doesn't mean copy other fighter games.. The changes in SoulCalibur5 are quite frustrating especially the defense mechanisms. The whole game has been stripped and simplified. The netcode is pretty good though and it's still a good fighter game.

Dont understand why they had to do the same as Streetfighter 4 and add special cinematic moves either. All they had to do is take SC4 improve the online play and add characters and levels.. Not take characters away!!! Anyway, still SC5 is a good game but i prefer SC4 personnally.

Does anyone know how to do Ivy's counter move when she throws her sword and grabs an opponent by the neck and pulls them face down? i want to be able to use this since soul calibur 2 when i saw my little brother do it even thought he's just a button masher.

Normally I'd run out and buy games like this BUT I have an enormous pain in the hole with fighting games these days as I know that in a couple of months there will be a better version. Soul Calibur 5 is complete shit. The death of the best fighting series. They killed guard impact, made side stepping and blocking slow as hell, added super moves and meter bar WTF!! They tried to make it Marvel vs Capcom, it shouldnt even be a 3d fighter now. A really really bad story, if you can even call it that, and no reason to play arcade mode with any characters, because HAY, no endings for any of them or story!!! So long Soul Calibur, you were so good, so very good until this shit.

It has tons of proper fighting animations from Aikidio, Kung-Fu, Taekwon Do, Karate and even Ju-Jitsu. SC5 has ridiculous moves with weapons mixed in it. Its nowhere near anything martial arts. Its just a crazy fantasy fighting game. Tekken is alot more "real".
The greatest aspect of Soul calibur, is how you get that feeling like the characters are progressing with every game released. thanks to new armor, weapons, combos, and now super specials
lol Bridget is like that Nun from Guilty Gear. but that aside Super specials are a pretty badass adition to the game. as long as their blockable i dont see any issue with them. a little scared that heavy characters might have Poise...F***

Just buy mortal kombat, you can probably pick it up for about $30 or less by now, it's a really great beat-em up, and my favorite of the year - There was tons of hype surrounding other fighting games last year but MK turned out to be the best, cause it actually did what it promised, viewers of screwattack/game trailers voted it the 5th best game of last year, and deservedly so.
This game has obviously lost it's potential..I liked the souls calibur 3 nd 4.. They were pretty awesome but this fifth one is pretty much the same shit nuthin new to it..with different nd weird characters nd adding to that all the awesome characters we liked are gone nd they created less stages.. The Critical Edge moves suck, it was better without them, bring back propper parrys instead.

i completly loved the sc series just finnished this on arcade and im not going to lie this game is WANK.i hate it most becuse nightmare at the end is the boss no inferno or watever just straight nightmare and he is also impsossible to kill i had to do the same grab move with some kilik look alike and im shure not 100% but i think they have changed the caricters name and to think i was buzzing for this game total let down!!

Soul Calibur 5 is complete shit. The death of the best fighting series. They killed guard impact, made side stepping and blocking slow as hell, added super moves and meter bar WTF!! They tried to make it Marvel vs Capcom, it shouldnt even be a 3d fighter now. A really really bad story, if you can even call it that, and no reason to play arcade mode with any characters, because HAY, no endings for any of them or story!!! So long Soul Calibur, you were so good, so very good until this shit.

No, unless you can PROVE it, I don't want to hear it. There is nothing realistic about punching someone so hard that they fly 5 feet in the air.

@skwerleyz Dude you are missing the point. Im not saying Tekken is 100% realistic but its more realistic than Soul Calibur V and many other fighting games. It has tons of proper fighting animations from Aikidio, Kung-Fu, Taekwon Do, Karate and even Ju-Jitsu. SC5 has ridiculous moves with weapons mixed in it. Its nowhere near anything martial arts. Its just a crazy fantasy fighting game. Tekken is alot more "real".

Parries dont cost meter, guard impact does. A just guard is a parry and that doesnt cost meter it gains meter, use that instead.

Just buy mortal kombat, you can probably pick it up for about $30 or less by now, it's a really great beat-em up, and my favorite of the year - There was tons of hype surrounding other fighting games last year but MK turned out to be the best, cause it actually did what it promised, viewers of screwattack/game trailers voted it the 5th best game of last year, and deservedly so.

I have no interest in SC5. I liked Soul Edge, SC1 and 2, and SC4 was decent, but not as good as SC2. SC5 looks like a shadow of the former games in the series, almost as bad as SC3 *shudder*.
