I have a j45 mapleburst custom shop and to my ear it's purely beautiful. All this Martin vs Gibson BS needs to end everyone desires their own taste, tone and playability. State your opinion and let it be without tearing apart everyone else's g/f (guitar)
@perkalator104 Yes I have played old vintage Gibson guitars. Gibson vintage aren't even as good as new Martins. Gibson old and new are muddy, tinny, and half the guitar as a Martin.
I have a gibson advanced jumbo that i bought second hand, After putting a new long saddle of teddy roosevelt ivory, and a new nut of west african ivory ,and a new set of closed waffle back kluson tuners and mamoth bridge pins on the instrument it is just about as good as it can get.I was attracted to the natural top on the advanced jumbo, it seems like every thing is all sunburst these days. I have one sunburst guitar, a Guild D 30 A arch back dreadnaught sunburst maple acoustic.
@bluegrasssingingman In my opinion, Taylors are a lot better than Gibson overall. Still arent even close to something thats ACTUALY hand made, like Collings or Bourgeois.
@flatpikinguitar Collings and Bourgeois are way over priced. I'll keep my Martins. Collings and Bourgeois is no more hand made then Taylor. Martin and Santa Cruz are the best, and are still hand built. You need to go watch how guitars are made. You will see they all are pretty much made the same way. They all use machines to a point, and they all copy Martin for a reason. It is called Since 1833 and the greatest still today. Collings are over priced shit sounding no better then Taylor, Gibson
"Please, please contact the sales engineers here at SweetWater Sound." lol What the hell is this, a starving children's ad? I remember when you had to get on a waiting list at the dealer to get a Gibson, now they resort to begging for customers.
Why aren't Gibson's set up well in the factory. Some play terrible and have to be set up by the purchaser. Word on the street is quality contro is down on Gibsons. Too bad.
@westmeathguy Yeah quality definitely not there on factory gibsons, and I am willing to say they may have lost me for life after my NEW les paul purchase. It was set up ok but really on a guitar that expensive I deserve to feel like I got my reach around when im playing it, and I really don't! All my PRS's are absolute killers, like for real the best playing/sounding guitars imaginable and the Gibson is just not. I like it and its a good guitar but quality is not they're pride and joy anymore.
Try if you can a Heritage H-150cm. They are cheaper than a gibson and quality is better IMO. Quality is somewhere between a factory production LP and a custom shop one. They are fully hand made with real MOP blocks in the neck and lacquer finish.
@fabianromano The Hertitage H-150 cm is not an acoustic guitar. Hey drive a Yugo instead of a Mercedes, Yugo's have 4 tires and a steering wheel likethe Mercedes.
@TheJuicer1414 I guess you have to SUCK to recognize when someone else sucks. Keep practicing with your Mel Bay book and little dots stuck on your fret board.
@keo774 yeah, but hendrix also did alot of modifications. not saying it can't be done, but i don't think anyone that isn't hendrix can pull it off, haha.
I have a J-45 Custom, and I absolutely fell in love with it the first time I played it. It's a guitar that you can't just watch a video about it. You have to play it, and hear it live.
I have a 1995 J45 with the good old Gibson brown case. It's handsdown the best acoustic guitar I've ever owned, and unlike my other guitars it STAYS in tune!
THe only real problem is finding a mic or pickup combination that lets the true resonance and depth of its tone come through an amplifier.
I put an LR Baggs undersaddle pickup in it, and that was a huge mistake. It turned a glorious sounding guitar into a computer imitation of one. I'm not sure what to replace it with.
@luukey9 I have a J-45 custom, and it came with LR Baggs, and it sounds amazing. Maybe it's just not the right pickup from them. They might have a new one out thats better.
I own a 2007 J45 Born 08/24/07 :- ) It is a fantastic guitar. I have two friends/bandmates that own HD-28's. On any given day you can go one way or the other on which guitar you like the best. For ME I made the right choice. I love the COLOR, the Scale length, the finish. I already have a Takamine Dread rare wood. So I don't need a high ceiling boomer. I needed something with more warmth. This IS the guitar. QUALITY is TOP NOTCH.
Very nice demo and a nice J45. I have a 1966 J45 and it's the lightest acoustic I have (including my CA OX). It's straight and plays great still with a powerful gutsy sound. Some of the newer Gibsons are hit or miss though. If you pick up a new $2,000 Taylor, you know you have a good guitar in your hands, if you pick up a new $2,000 Gibson, you might have a good guitar in your hands. jmo
So what are you saying treat3po, other manufacturers don't do it for the money, please, tell that to the kids but spare those with a bit more knowledge knucklehead!! I suppose thats why hundreds of guitar gods out there still use them eh, cause their crap eh, stick with your ibanez and rock on dude!!
i thought gibson was in serious debt., you ruined gibson!!!! turned it into a money loving industry with no soul. douche. the quality of the instruments now are extremely flawed and crappy for how much u expect them to be payed for. im guessing that j 45 has a plastic saddle and nut too.
Gibson guitars are the best sounding period. Martins don't even compare to my ears.

How are they handmade? Didnt know a machine had hands.

Gibson just don't have any sound. Gibson is to muddy and tinny. They sound like rusty springs blowing in the wind. Gibson=Tin Can.

@Q8yGodfather yeap , i HATE this guitar position , too "formal" if u know what i mean

Sounds muted, like most gibsons ive heard. finish is way to think. but this is only my opinion.
flatpikinguitar 7 months ago
@flatpikinguitar You are right muddy, tinny, no sustain, very distorted. They have no driving power, no punch. Not much better then all the Taylor's.

How would you compare a J-45 to a Hummingbird? Do the square shoulders make that much of a difference?
