@MrKeffer: Understand, this was 1988, when the Irish won their 10th National Championship and had an undefeated season. ND had not played Miami since 1985, when they trounced ND in coach Gerry Faust's last game 56-7 in the Orange Bowl. Lou Holtz took over in '86 and vowed to get revenge. ND did. It was a sensational back and forth game. When #15 Pat Terrell batted down the pass to seal it, the place went NUTS!
I was at the Miami-ND game in 1988. I've seen a hundred game in ND Stadium, that was the damndest sight I've ever seen. Pure classic!
As for Cal-Stanford in 1982, I spoke with the announcer Joe Starky on the phone at the San Fran radio station where he worked and he sent me an audio cassette tape of the last five minutes. That was nothing but crazy. Joe said he never came close to calling anything so exciting in his career. Terrific stuff!
Boise St vs OU? Trinity? Colorado Hail Mary? LSU Miracle? Miami vs OSU controversial ending? I never even heard of 3 of these, 5 and 1 are the only ones ive ever seen in this vid.
great choices, and thank you for putting that about Boise State, i was worried there for a second, you have to admit that Boise States win has to rank in the top 3 greatest games.
Those were all great games. I remember the '88 Notre Dame-Miami game billed as "Catholics vs. Convicts." Miami was on its way to a second-consecutive national title (and third in 5 years) when they lost at South Bend. The Irish would wind up winning the national title. That was the last NT the Irish won, although they probably should have won a share of the '93 title (won by a Florida State team ND had defeated late in the season).
@drewkuch ehhh idk about that. They would be one of the only 2 unbeatens left and they were ranked number 5 or 4 when they lost. so idk i think the NCAA would finally give boise thier shot because they are unbeaten. But they have without a doubt picked the 2 best teams in the NCAA.
@drewkuch i understand the BCS. and yes it is BS. But ya maybe bama wouldve jumped them, maybe not, we will never know. because once again, boise states kicker cost them a shot at a national championship game. And they play ASU because they lost to an unranked team and they are not in a BCS conference.

Its college football baby! love this time of year where everyone is back outside throwin the ball around, comin online to look up old videos of their team from the past, and 10 games every saturday to keep me sitting with a beer in my hand... LOVE IT!!
you should look up the Idaho Bowling Green game from 2009. not the most known teams. bowling green scores with 30 seconds remaining and then Idaho drives 66 yards to score and wins with a 2 point conversion with 4 seconds left. the best game i have ever seen:)
@khakisuit34 Thats for damn sure! Scoring Explosion. The Triplets were one of the best 3 I've seen. (Rozier, Gill, and Fryar) That team definitely deserved a title.
APP state vs michigan??? boise state vs oklahoma was a couple of plays, about 5 or 6 to be more precise so it should be in it the video isint called the top 5 college football last plays of a game... what about trinity college 20 million latterals???
Someones a Miami fan... + #3 should be replaced with Iowa vs MSU 2009 last second victory reception by Marvin McNutt to keep Iowa's perfect record and National Title hopes...
The Nebraska Miami game is the greatest finish in all sports. True guts and sportsmanship. Had Nebraska simply kicked the EP they would have won the Title. Osbourne didn't want a Title by way of a tie.
Texas-USC is not on here because that game was a total failure on the ref's part and Vince Young should not have scored the winning touchdown because on the replay his knee was clearly already on the ground and so USC should've won. That Game Sucked.
@wwhall1 Neither was the texas vs texas tech game (if you pay attention their was 1 second left on the clock). The texas/usc nc was a great game, but not a top 5 finish of all time.
@Stormskip The nebraska/miami one does deserve to be there. part of the lore of the game stems from the background of the game. nebraska was undefeated, the only other undefeated team had already lost their bowl game. if they had just stuck with the extra point, they probably would have been national champs. tom osbourne was asked before the game, if the it came down to going for the win, or sticking with a safe tie, which would he do. osbourne stuck to his word.
You have Tech beating Texas in the top 5 list of literally the most famous plays in the history of college football. A monkey w/ shit for brains could name those plays. 4 of these are from the 80's- you're telling me that no other plays occured in the next 20 years that were as impressive or exciting as that crazy fucking midseason game in Lubbock, Tx ? No Boise State? Vince Young? Appalachian State? 1990's? No??
@spiffy72985 I'm talking about when we scored a TD but it was called a fumble. His knee was down and the ball was over the goal line and came out so Notre Dame refs like always want Notre Dame to win so they called it a fumble.
Do you mean the same Notre Dame refs who called Miami's last touchdown a touchdown even though it was clearly dropped/not completed as a catch? Look at that "catch" and tell me that stands up today with replay. It wouldn't. Shit happens, get over it. You got beat by the better team.
@cauchamar like notre dame was ever better than those Miami teams if there was fair calling and if Vinny tesdavarede played good against Penn State in 88 Miami would have 8 national championships in 18 years
I'm pretty sure they were better in the above clip - ya know, the one where they beat Miami and ended their stupid winning streak, and won the national title. They also beat them in '90. ND split the series with Miami during the Holtz era, when Miami was as good as it's ever been or is going to be. You guys also failed to beat either Ara or Dan Devine's teams in a whopping TWELVE tries, managing only one tie in that time. Most of your seven wins were against our worst coaches.
Also, no offense, but considering we just pantsed you in a bowl game while missing our starting QB, RB, TE, and so on, this probably isn't the best time to be bragging on Miami in relation to ND. If you somehow get us in the '12 game, have at it. Until then, no.
I'll try to use small words so you can understand. From 1949-2010, Michigan won 1 national championship. In that same time (1949-2010), Notre Dame won 5 national championships (6, according to some). If you insist on making it recent, fine. From 2000-2010, we're tied at 0. From 1990-2010, you're up 1 to 0. From 1980-2010, we're tied at 1. From 1970-2010, we're up 3 to 1. From 1960-2010, we're up 4 or 5 to 1.
Unless you're a Miami fan, in which case I switch from the national title argument to the haha we beat your asses last winter and will do so again in 2012 Al Golden is mediocre argument.
what about the LSU VS KU that was mkuch better #2 was just dumb the coach wanted to be greedy if they had kicked the extra point they might have won in overtime
@SaintsFan4Life1 there was no overtime back then you moron, overtime wasn't started in college football until the mid 90s. the national championship was on the line you idiot, tom osbourne was keeping to his pregame word, of not resting on his laurels (they might have still won the national championship even if there was a tie)

@cauchamar Ya okay guy who hasnt won a national championship in like 24 years

@sunfilufagus
HAHAHAHAA Michigan has 1 title in the past like 70 years. And you SHARED it. In the time you've won 1 title, I think ND has won 5 or 6.

@cauchamar Wat r u talkin about Notre Dame won last in 88 idiot

@sunfilufagus

Cal vs Stanford, Really??? If they had instant replay the play would have never stood. The player's knee was clearly down. It was a bad call.

what about the LSU VS KU that was mkuch better #2 was just dumb the coach wanted to be greedy if they had kicked the extra point they might have won in overtime

@SaintsFan4Life1 There was no overtime back then.
jcdixon97 1 year ago
@SaintsFan4Life1 there was no overtime back then you moron, overtime wasn't started in college football until the mid 90s. the national championship was on the line you idiot, tom osbourne was keeping to his pregame word, of not resting on his laurels (they might have still won the national championship even if there was a tie)
