Even though Tiffany didn't do triples in this program, she was still a strong technical skater----look at the edges, the magnificent scratch spin from a very controlled circular entrance, and the incredible running camels at the end of her performance followed by an illusion spin.
She looks overweight here. It's too bad she went downhill after 1985. She was one of the best female skaters in the early to mid 80s, fluid and graceful, and she did the triples then. But after 1985, she got out of shape and couldn't get her form back.
@mrshinyshoes I don't think it helped that she had by all reports a stage mother who I think really destroyed her love of the sport and competition. I personally think she turned pro as quickly as she could to get out from under her mother's thumb.
@mrshinyshoes I base much of that on Christine Brennan's book, where she claimed that. Supposedly that was backed up by some of the mothers of the other (now) professional skaters who competed with her.
@soulcornflake1 I remember watching a CBS interview with Tiffany Chin, and her mother was in the same room during the interview. The interviewer was questioning Tiffany about the 1985 Worlds, where Tiffany placed third, and her mother Marjorie interrupted the interview, and as the tape was still running, her mother started berating poor Tiffany in front of the cameramen, calling her "lazy and unappreciative, a phony, and not deserving of all the money being spent on her as a skater." Yikes.
@mrshinyshoes Her Mom was demanding and tough, but there are other skate Moms AND/OR Dads who have been worse. As for Mothers...former Jr. National Champion Michelle Cho was one.
@3Axel1996 don't forget Tonya Harding's mom. She saw Tonya as the way for her family to get rich, and all that ulitimately led to all the mess with Nancy Kerrigan.
@soulcornflake1 I think the worst I've ever heard about was Michelle Cho's Mom. It got so bad, the poor girl retired just days before she was to step onto the ice at the 1995 US Nationals to perform her Short Program in her Senior Ladies Event debut.

@soulcornflake1 Yeah, I heard that her mother was known as the "Dragon Lady" around ice rinks. Lol.

@3Axel1996 Seriously? I don't remember her at all, that's why I've never heard this. Now that's bad.

No triples. She became "Double Chin" in 1987
