  • The body is 'a little rusty' lol. Perkins diesel should go as long as a Cummins! I'm gonna have to learn more about these. I bet they are very rare. Thanks for the video!

  • i have one and it is strong and runs great with over a million miles really a great and rare truck

  • you called the master cylinder a power booster why lol?

  • @CumminsDave92 He said hes not sure which is bad the booster or the air pump.

  • @CumminsDave92 that would be because he was talking about the "power brakes" booster, and not the master cylinder..

  • About what fuel mileage are you getting?

  • @NathansBackwoods i looked at one yesterday and they said around 40mpg

  • XL model of course

  • Sounds like 2 chipmunks fighting over an acorn in a coffee can!!! haha nice truck!!

  • These things are dagerously slow. A Geo metro would easily out run it.

  • you are correct ,they are not speed demons , they were built for torque . Geo's or any crappy Korean car are fast just for a moment . Geo Metros last a year and are sent to the recyclers for scrap. These Rangers with the Perkins diesel engines are like the turtles , slow but out run any car you can mention in the long run and they are still running and they will do it for 600,000 + miles without an itch.

  • @4everdiesel they do not have turbo, if you put on on you will see a great increase in its acceleration :D.

  • hey guys .... i got the same thing for sale. idk i might be asking to much but around here they are super rare. i live in central Minnesota askin 3000 obo willing to drop price its really rusty but its only got 15x,xxx miles on it and get 32 mpg(2.2 perkins) its all original.

  • Manual glow plugs? That’s a first...

  • A little rusty??

  • How much are these worth?

  • Well, it depends the condition of the whole truck, in this case it's worth between $1,000 and $1,400 because the body is bad, but I had a few rust free ones that I sold for $4,000, and some in between.

  • I can get one in decent shape for 750.

  • where ? I buy it

  • nc craigs.

  • hey the reason the brake light is on isnt any thing to do with power booster its most likly the diffrental pressure switch if u bled front brakes and not the rear or vice versa it cld be the cause or your rear or front brakes cld be losing pressure

  • I have always been interested in diesel powered cars and trucks, for many reasons. I would love to have a truck like that. Can the truck be driven on the road? I'd love to see how it performs on the freeways and around town. It's a bit rusty, a bit beat up, but nothing to be ashamed of. My first truck was a 1978 Toyota pickup. It was a rusted hulk of a truck by the time I had to part with it, but it ran and served its purpose well. I'd give anything to buy another truck like it. Ciao!

  • Hello, that's exactly what I was going to do, transplant it to a rust free body, but money is always an issue with 3 kids in college, so I sold everything ., but if you need a turbo charged, look also with dodge ram 50 or mitsubishi maighty max d50, they have the same engine diesel installed in Foed Rangers from '85 till '87 (or not sure if '88 also) , good luck with your find, Sergio

  • Yeah I was looking into those as well, but I like Fords better.

I also just discovered there was such a beast as a supercab ranger with dual tanks, at least in 1986. I have only seen one of these, but that would be awesome with a diesel in it. Over 600 miles to a fill up at least.

If you ever come across another diesel ranger, let me know. I am keeping my eyes peeled myself.

  • they look cool these.

  • Sucks you are so far away. Would love to check some of these vehicles out, esp. this one (I know, it's sold). Would love to get a diesel ranger, pull the engine, and put it in a gas ranger with a extended cab. These models had the best fuel economy for a ranger, some topping 40mpg!!

There is a diesel ranger engine on eBay, but shipping would be killer. I would really want a turbocharged one anyways.

  • Can you still buy new engine parts for this truck?

  • you can get some engine parts, but many discontinued, try a Perkins dealer, they will ask you the engine number on the block just behind the injection pump, good luck

  • Yeah, good luck. They're almost impossible to find. I've had to build two transmissions out of rx7 parts, because nothing else is available (at a reasonable price anyway).

That I'm aware of i think the only thing you can actually go to an auto parts store and buy is filters, glow plugs, water pump, injectors(at some) and gaskets.

Otherwise, call a Perkins dealer and start praying, cause it'll take a little more than luck to find parts for one of these.

  • I belive this truck was on ebay a while back wasn't it? Good motors. I have two mazda with the same motor. Very reliable vehicles.

  • yes, it was sold, good industrials Perkins diesels, can't beat them

  • It's about time somebody did a video like this, not a bad deal for a rusty body and cracked dash. Good vid man

  • Awesome video. Mazda power!
