im having trouble starting ubuntu it says error 15 cannot find menu.lst i have menu.lst EXACTLY where it looks but it doesnt see it i guess how do i fix this MESSAGE ME
I want to try Ubuntu and hopeflly get rid of Windows Vista. I downloaded Ubuntu 7.10 from the main site, uncompressed the file, burned a CD with the files and rebooted my computer. Instead of booting from the CD, like I hoped, Vista loaded. So, no success so far. Am I doing something wrong?
Then you have to change the order of drives so to do this you press F5 to move the device down the list, or press F6 to move it up. We need the CD Drive to be 1st. So put that 1st, then the hard drive 2nd. The press ESC, then exit and save changes, reboot your pc. Then when it reboots it should load the cd. Take this video tutorial to know how to do the rest.
I´ve windows on my PC, and I want to install ubuntu - but I have only one HD. How do I install ubuntu without loosing windows? I would like to be able to initiate windows or ubuntu.
make sure that in ur BIOS you have it set the 1st boot drive to your cd/dvd drive. it should then work. go to the ubuntu and you'll find a bunch of help there as well.
So can i use this as the ONLY OS on my Computer. Like to install, run. and use straight off a blank HD?

Yes what you do is:
Press F2 as soon as you start the computer up.
Hope this helps ;)

You probably didn't burn the file correctly.
You should just have an iso file which you burn as a img onto a cd (google imgburn for a free program)
Then when your PC loads up watch and at some point you will be able to press F8 (maybe F12) to choose boot options. Select your cd drive.

i doubt u are gona check this to see if anybody replied, but whatever.
if u do it like he did it will, "take the entire hard disk."
u can dual boot windows vista and ubuntu however, google it or look for some of the other vids on youtube.
btw, u can dual boot any combo of os's. ive got vista xp and ubuntu. i have heard about a dude that has every version of linux dual booted.
