  • But in some ways, I think songs such as this conjures up not just a lamenting past, but the pride associated with those who believe in a new hope for Scotland, when again, the destiny of a free nation will be determined by those in whose veins, flows free with tartan blood...

  • The fact that this song is still sung shows the cause (for independence) is not lost. Charlie was defeated, but the hopes of Scotland will never be.

  • I'm not a Monarchist, so I couldn't honestly call myself a Jacobite, but this song's certainly rousing, although a wee bit sad at the same time, when you think of how it all ended.

  • I think it warns of the dangers of ordinary people pinning all their hopes on a 'Saviour'. Beware of Pied Pipers!
