I'm not a Monarchist, so I couldn't honestly call myself a Jacobite, but this song's certainly rousing, although a wee bit sad at the same time, when you think of how it all ended.

The fact that this song is still sung shows the cause (for independence) is not lost. Charlie was defeated, but the hopes of Scotland will never be.

I think it warns of the dangers of ordinary people pinning all their hopes on a 'Saviour'. Beware of Pied Pipers!
