Beautiful voice, and a rather lovely interpretation. Your top notes are a little sharp but the rest is very pleasant to listen to. I've done a version of this song as well (in Czech), perhaps you might like to watch it and leave me a comment? Well done. :) Nadolig Llawen. xox
you really have a beautiful voice! Although I believe you could have done without the mic, and maybe could have sang it in czech, you still did a very nice job with an incredibly difficult aria.
it probably should be sung in czech however that would limit it to certain groups of people. it is not an easy language to speak let alone sing unless you are Czech
I would add just one thing: if you're going to sing a Czech aria in English, the audience should really be able to understand every word. Honestly, except for a few words, I thought you were singing in another language. Ask a friend or family member to try and write down the text...then you'll know what is clear and what isn't.
I don't mind a light tone for this tune. I think it's actually very charming. And don't fault her for scooping...just count the scoops in the pros' renditions...
You have a lovely voice my dear. Truly. However, I read one of the other comments that said you used a few pop embellishments. As much as I hate to agree, you did slide/scoop a bit. However, that's very easy to fix. Wish as much talent as you have already, you should have no problem working that out. I wish you luck! Keep singing! In 10 years, you could be on your way to being one of the greats!
Never mind the unfair and incompetent comments I read here. You did a wonderful job for your age. Go on like this. Listen a lot to the "mature" singers - for example Frederica von Stade and learn about interpretation, stile and tradition (I mean the way things have been done by great singers in the past) and find out the best way for you to sing the aria.
I think you have a very pure and beautiful voice. This is one of the most yearningly romantic songs ever written, and you seem to me to sing it from your heart and soul at such a young age which is remarkable. Please would you post here the English lyrics you have used as a couple of others have asked, because this aria touches some of us more in English. The only English lyrics I can find on the internet are more old fashioned and I would like to compare your version. Thank you for this video
You need to support a lot more. I would recommend not using microphone.
Your voice is very light for this song as well. It may be stronger when you develop better technique. You are also adding some poppy sounds to your voice, watch out. I would invest in a good voice teacher.
Oh and kudos on maintaining a nice tone even though you're singing in english. It can be more difficult singing in English sometimes and maintaining your placement. Great job.
Watch that you don't let your voice fall inside yourself at the end of phrases...give less in the beginning of the phrase then accent the end and it will come together much better and you will have more breath to finish out the phrase. Lovely voice though. I agree with all who said so. Keep it up for sure. You are huge potential.
If you long for being an opera singer, please first forget the microphone. Your tone is pure gold. Your phrasing and your emotion throughout the aria are your best points. But the sound, though a bit more supported than on your other Rusalka, is still straight and strident. I suggest you would watch Brittany Rose's Rusalka (WITHOUT microphone) to have an idea of what can do a hard-worker aspiring opera singer.
If you're gonna sing this, try it without the microphone or any amplification but your own body and mouth. It will be much harder. You need to train but you can do it.
Bravo! You obviously have an excellent teacher. Very mature voice for someone so young. Best advice I ever got... choose appropriate material - not songs just to impress or that you love doing. I'll keep looking out for you over the years to come!
Hi, thanks for the nice words. This was my first public performance after learning the aria that week. I have posted the czech version on my video page. Please take a look and comment.
That said, since this stupid thing limits the amount of words I can type. For someone new to singing, you've done well. However, keep in mind your voice wont "settle" until your about 20. Your high notes are strained, thats not good for your vocal cords. Its very important, to find your range and stick with it, so that you dont damage your vocal cords.
Wow. Ok. Hi! Professional opera singer here. *waves* This song, was written for either a Coloratura or a Mezzo. It's not right for your range. However, considering that its a very difficult piece thats not in your range, you sing it well. Work on vibrato, pitch and breath control. You got quite a voice. Keep it up!
hey, im also an opera singer, and i agree with everything choneko said above. you ahve a really really beautiful voice. But be careful choosing 'age apropriate' rep. I know how frustrating it can be waiting for your voice to catch up to your dreams, but your voice is precious. dont hurt it, protect it. you need patience to do that.
I agree with Primavia. Train on lirico leggero repertoire, which presently seems to be your vocalita, and let this aria for dramatic sopranos (listen to Milanov interpretation of it) not to spoil your pure, delicate and shining instrument. Wait for you in Amina or Elvira in a couple of years. I wish you a great career.
Very pretty voice. Save these types of songs for later. Pleas work on Italian 24 art songs and easier Mozart. Give your voice time to develop. Work on your intonation. I can't make out much of what you are saying
Sorry, have I missed something here? For a start, she's using a microphone. She's sharp, then flat and can't sustain a phrase. You guys need to listen to some real opera singers!
Im singing an aria and not in an opera setting..Fleming, Netrebko and Pavarotti hav neva used microphones-duh! I dont think Im that bad 4 15yo Clearly i have got at least 10 more yrs of training etc. but im having a go! I lookd at ur page but couldnt see any of ur work or qualifications 2 criticise others!R u an armchair critic who fixes everybody else but cant do it themselves? Ur favourite is a breathy, french transvestite with appalling vocal technique thinly disguised as art.
Ok. Fair enough. You're right about opera singers using microphones - but they are usually on a stand - at some distance from the singer. But to be honest you look older than 15 - so I guess you've got a way to go. Not a breathy French transvestite by the way - though if you're going to work in opera I suggest you develop a more liberal attitude to people who are not North American heterosexuals. Incidentally, I'm studying for an MA in voice studies at London University.
@babyrhibubble I understans exactly what you are saying. I know that this was from three years ago and I am sure you made wonderful progress in the past few years. I for one was truly impressed with this performance. To my ear, I hear a great deal of potential. Hope you are keeping up with it. As far as language, that is secondary. First and formost is voacal control. Please keep up the good work.
@babyrhibubble you go girl !!!! many years ago, my 14 yo daughter sang competitively. you sound great to me. audio is not good enough for you. any other videos ?
@owenboi66 You're a stuck up snob. Give credit where credit is due. I hope one day babyrhibubble will be able to jam your words right down your throat.
that's my fav. aria and you did it beautifully for someone so young...you should be rusalka! also - it's really nice to hear an aussie accent around hehehe :)
Rhian has the most beautiful voice for a 15 year old. Her voice is one of great quality and resonance. I've seen her live and its an honour to be in her presence. God bless her voice! Great to watch.
woops. What i meant to say was, The confidence in this performance is a beauty to behold! the tone quality is gorgeously pure while rich at the same time. Her voice really does sound like it was made in heaven. Try closing your eyes while listening. I not only believe she will break into and advance quickly in the music world soon, but expect it! The fact that she is very attractive adds to the performance :P
I agree!! Rhian definitely has a angelic voice , a voice many people shall fall in love with and melt. Im really looking forward to see more videos up here in the future. Certainly it made me halt in my footsteps!! = ) Keep up the good work hun
This young lady has a an absolutley fantatstic voice! Her delivery cannot be faulted and I believe she has great potential to move onto being a classic operatic talent.
I don't know Czechand always wondered what the words meant.
So its was a joy to listen to this beautiful lady and her sweet voice.
Thanks

Lovely. Really.
Keep on working, you're going to be a great singer, especially if you continue studying opera.
(And BTW, do not mind idiotic comments. I know it's hard but most of the time people do not even know what they're talking about).

It's not the singer's fault, but even in English it's difficult to understand the lyrics without seeing them on paper.
You've got a beautiful voice, but using the mic isn't a really good idea for some reasons.
liuaimi 3 years ago
why did you use a mic, no opera singer would ever do that.

An opera singer would use a mic if the acoustics in the venue were not good.
