Confused about PC requirements. Given this is hardware encoder (PC is only used as a write device) and at max quality of 13.5mbps its only transferring at less that a Class 2 speed (slow) why the need for dual core etc? Also can you set your storage device as a external HDD attached to the PC you are using. My laptop has limited installed HDD size available.

Your settings are good but not perfect. If you are recording for GoW2 your framerate in vegas should be 30 fps. This is because GoW2 runs at 30fps so by rendering at 60 fps in vegas you are doubling the size and gaining no quality. Save yourself some space and increase quality by rendering at 30 fps.
Would you recommend downgrading to a previous Arcsoft? The Arcsoft that came with my Colossus doesn't give an option to change the audio to AC3. Its blanked out.
Sony Vegas 10 has no audio when importing any PVR. Know why?
Um, so I have an i7 at 2.7ghz (8 cores) and 6gb of 1800mhz ram, and my pvr just decides to black screen after about 15 minutes of recording... So I set its priority to realtime in task manager and end pretty much every other process and then try to record...same thing. All my settings are exactly the same as yours, and I have about 1.3tb open for recording. I've searched a lot of places and havent found an answer, so I'm hoping you can help :P
@sHuzifyy I've had the same exact problem as you. I've got an alienware m17x i7 duel core Sandy Bridge processor and it still freezes. I think it has to do with the recording program itself.

@SayVarRee I have a 750w. I dunno why it just stops.. :( When I turn the console on, and the pvr, and then unplug the USB from the pvr and put it in a new port it seems to work, but only for a little while. Soon after it starts to black screen.

@o0DeadSpaceFan0o No. 1080i will reduce the FPS to 24fps. While in 720p the frame rate will be higher. Not to mention that when you go to upload to youtube it will be down-scaled to 720p anyway cuz that's how youtube rolls :/.

@iPIayBIackOps The cd does come with the HD pvr, but does not work for the mac. The hdpvr softwares that do work for the mac are "eyetv 3" and "hdpvrcapture". hdpvrcapture costs less ($30), and there is a free trial, but it only allows you to record for 2 minutes. I personally use hdpvrcapture, so if you want any info, just ask me.

when i record(i record in mp4 because m2ts has long render times) what comes out is out of sync(audio isn't synced with video) and i have to use ArcSoft media converter to convert it to wmv, which takes up a lot of time. Any tips?
Even with top specs, there are many problems associated with this kit. All is great until you come to edit - there isn't any affordable editing software (under $900) that doesn't require hassle with conversion programs. These have to be downloaded at a price. For anybody not wanting to have their credit card details online, you can forget about ever getting an HD PVR to work as advertised.
Man I been having this problem with my Hauppauge recently. Where after 10 to 15 minutes. My capture software freezes, and the device is still on. I saw your video, and download the Game Booster. Turn everything unnecessary off, and BLAM one hour of capturing with no problems! I'll try again to make sure, but still thank you!

Hey I need some advice, I'm looking at buying a hauppauge but don't know to much about how it works, I've seen setuup videos but im wondering if it will lag whilst playing. I have a pretty large tv and when using normal red/white/yellow cables it lags and i cant play online well, so i bought a Hdmi cable and the lag is gone, Im wondering because ive heard you cant use the haupauge with hdmi cables will it lag with the cables you have to use?
I have a problem where my HD PVR is correctly connected and on Total media Extreme evreything shows up the exact opposite colour that it really is on my tv. Any help?

@kostner28 No, you don't need an HDtv to use the Hauppauge. The video shows up on your computer screen, but the input lag is too great to actually do anything buy play a recorded game, for example theater mode on Halo.

I'm having a bit of problems with my Video/sound importing into Vegas 8. When i use M2TS files and import them into vegas the video doesnt show up, but when i use MP4 for the xbox option the video shows up but no sound. I am recording on an xbox. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My computer does not have nearly the specs that you said (except for processor), but still runs perfectly fine. My videos come out perfectly fine without lag or dropped frames.

In the Capture Module under the Device and Format Settings options, it says I'm running a 720 x 480 Input Resolution. Does this mean I can't post wide-screen videos on Youtube? Because what I've tried so far only creates a black border around my video.
@liamrhysbond yes, this doesn't come with the hd pvr obviously, and its not very cheap to buy optical cables. The audio quality from the standard audio cables is quite good.
Nice tutorial... i got only one problem. Its a pretty noobish one thou. When i render my vdeos (i use .avi) it `ll never go full-screen! i always get these two large black bars both on the left and right. I have tried to go into event pan/crop and fix it in there, but it still wont work. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Good quality. Could you send me a link to your quality test. 1 Main thing I noticed. You do soooo many things that are not needed. As you said 10 GB for 2 minutes? I can get you the same quality for 250 MB in 2 minutes using .wmv formats. No this is not spam or a joke. Video for the quality attatched. Tutorial coming out when I have 100 Likes on it. Watch in 1080p or something HD for the BEST quality. Soz about the audio laggs in the video.
@thegamehaa You definitely do not get anywhere near the same quality in any WMV format as you would with an uncompressed AVI format. It is literally impossible.
And like i said in the video, the AVI format is for editing, not for uploading.
@Doominated Aha. Do you think your cool and funny? You know NOTHING about youtube servers and what they do to the file when uploaded. Your 60 fps video can't play with that on youtube so it turns it in to 30 fps. Congratz you just doubled the file size TO DO NOTHING? Than 1000 square pixels. No If you record with happauge at HD you put it at 1.333 ( HD 1080 ) This keeps the file size normal for HD! .wmv is a bad and good format depending on what you need and what you are using it for...
@thegamehaa And just for the record, I almost never actually bother rendering in the formats that get me the best quality. I'm not going to sit there and wait 40-50 minutes for a 1 minute video to finish rendering/compressing.

My video takes 45 - 50 minutes for around 15 minutes of video? Really? Please re-read what you spell. I rendered at 7 min clip today after watching your tutorial, and it's about 700MB...which takes quite a while to upload to youtube. Is there a way to cut that in half or more, while still keeping good quality?
@Doominated ... I want best youtube quality and I use .wmv for that. My quality is better than yours and the file size is 200MB / 2 minutes. 100 MB a minute. Sorry. .avi is good for editing but eventually it bites back. Also you record at 13.5 MB really? A nobrainer? Well 13.5MB is not supported by youtube also so that 13.5MB is transfered into 10 MB and a transfer kills the quality. Sorry man you have good idea's and im your fan but really do some research before hand?
@thegamehaa That's like saying it's pointless to render past 3.5 MBps because youtube compresses to 3.5 mbps at best for streaming.
And yes, rendering to 60 fps is pointless in theory. but seeing as how the Hauppauge records in 60, your options are to either remove every other frame rendering at 30fps, render with blended frames at 30fps, or render at 60fps.
Your quality is definitely nowhere near the "best" for a 1212. It's very choppy to someone who knows frame differences.

If you keep files at their recorded FPS it makes no difference except when speeding up/slowing down footage.

Thankyou for the video. But can anybody help me with the AVI rendering because if i set the Frame Rate above 25 it goes extremely jumpy and horrible. Please help me!

Hey I need some advice, I'm looking at buying a hauppauge but don't know to much about how it works, I've seen setuup videos but im wondering if it will lag whilst playing. I have a pretty large tv and when using normal red/white/yellow cables it lags and i cant play online well, so i bought a Hdmi cable and the lag is gone, Im wondering because ive heard you cant use the haupauge with hdmi cables will it lag with the cables you have to use?

@kostner28 No, you don't need an HDtv to use the Hauppauge. The video shows up on your computer screen, but the input lag is too great to actually do anything buy play a recorded game, for example theater mode on Halo.

??? I have a 2.8 SINGLE core processor and I can record at 12.0 MB bitrate at 60fps absolutely fine... so why do you NEED a dual core?

I'm having a bit of problems with my Video/sound importing into Vegas 8. When i use M2TS files and import them into vegas the video doesnt show up, but when i use MP4 for the xbox option the video shows up but no sound. I am recording on an xbox. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My computer does not have nearly the specs that you said (except for processor), but still runs perfectly fine. My videos come out perfectly fine without lag or dropped frames.

In the Capture Module under the Device and Format Settings options, it says I'm running a 720 x 480 Input Resolution. Does this mean I can't post wide-screen videos on Youtube? Because what I've tried so far only creates a black border around my video.

@liamrhysbond yes, this doesn't come with the hd pvr obviously, and its not very cheap to buy optical cables. The audio quality from the standard audio cables is quite good.

@Alwayz8D I'm guessing that you have your xbox or ps3 display settings set to 480p or something other than 720p.
Make sure that you have the display settings on your console set to 720p that should do it otherwise i dont think i can help you

Nice tutorial... i got only one problem. Its a pretty noobish one thou. When i render my vdeos (i use .avi) it `ll never go full-screen! i always get these two large black bars both on the left and right. I have tried to go into event pan/crop and fix it in there, but it still wont work. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Good quality. Could you send me a link to your quality test. 1 Main thing I noticed. You do soooo many things that are not needed. As you said 10 GB for 2 minutes? I can get you the same quality for 250 MB in 2 minutes using .wmv formats. No this is not spam or a joke. Video for the quality attatched. Tutorial coming out when I have 100 Likes on it. Watch in 1080p or something HD for the BEST quality. Soz about the audio laggs in the video.

@thegamehaa You definitely do not get anywhere near the same quality in any WMV format as you would with an uncompressed AVI format. It is literally impossible.
And like i said in the video, the AVI format is for editing, not for uploading.

@Doominated Aha. Do you think your cool and funny? You know NOTHING about youtube servers and what they do to the file when uploaded. Your 60 fps video can't play with that on youtube so it turns it in to 30 fps. Congratz you just doubled the file size TO DO NOTHING? Than 1000 square pixels. No If you record with happauge at HD you put it at 1.333 ( HD 1080 ) This keeps the file size normal for HD! .wmv is a bad and good format depending on what you need and what you are using it for...

@thegamehaa And just for the record, I almost never actually bother rendering in the formats that get me the best quality. I'm not going to sit there and wait 40-50 minutes for a 1 minute video to finish rendering/compressing.

@Doominated Lol? So you WOULD wait 4 hours to render 30 GB and not 15 minutes for the same quality. You are wrong. The longer the file the longer it takes. My video takes 45 - 50 minutes for around 15 minutes of video? Really? Please re-read what you spell. And if you don;t bother with getting better quality then why bother uploading a fraud video to show you how?

I rendered at 7 min clip today after watching your tutorial, and it's about 700MB...which takes quite a while to upload to youtube. Is there a way to cut that in half or more, while still keeping good quality?

@Doominated ... I want best youtube quality and I use .wmv for that. My quality is better than yours and the file size is 200MB / 2 minutes. 100 MB a minute. Sorry. .avi is good for editing but eventually it bites back. Also you record at 13.5 MB really? A nobrainer? Well 13.5MB is not supported by youtube also so that 13.5MB is transfered into 10 MB and a transfer kills the quality. Sorry man you have good idea's and im your fan but really do some research before hand?

@thegamehaa That's like saying it's pointless to render past 3.5 MBps because youtube compresses to 3.5 mbps at best for streaming.
And yes, rendering to 60 fps is pointless in theory. but seeing as how the Hauppauge records in 60, your options are to either remove every other frame rendering at 30fps, render with blended frames at 30fps, or render at 60fps.
Your quality is definitely nowhere near the "best" for a 1212. It's very choppy to someone who knows frame differences.
