  • Sorry to add to any confusion, but to those of us born and brought up in Wallington in the 1940s and 50s, it will always be in Surrey. No amount of officialese ink will change that.

  • Wallington has been in the London Borough of Sutton since 1965. Similarly, places like Richmond, Surrey (London Borough of Richmond), Surbiton, Surrey (London Borough of Kingston) still retain their old county postal name as do parts of Kent, Essex, Sussex etc which were all incorporated into (Greater) London over 40 years ago. The media often add to the confusion by referring to such areas as for example Kingston as Surrey but on other occasions as SW London.

  • Thank you markblakeut - you are of course correct. Wallington is in South London, but when some of these old buses were running was then in Surrey :)

  • Wallington has been part of South London since 1965. 'Surrey' remains in the address because the post office didn't divide it's areas in the same way as the London boroughs did (to make post easier to sort). Increasingly post is marked 'Wallington, SM6...' and Surrey is dropped. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Wallington is no longer part of Surrey.

  • @markblakeut yeah your wrong it is a part of surrey i live here and like wallington sutton ewell cheam its all apart of surrey and south london is anywere from like essex to brighton its just a southern area the borough of surrey incorperates loads of towns in south london including wallington
