Young people don't vote because they're selfish and there's nothing in political rhetoric for them. No free cell phones, no free college education, no free lunch. I can drop the voting age to 16 and get an 80-90% turnout for those 16-18 year olds. It's not that hard. Expensive, but not hard. It's the same way you get a lot of people to vote. Give them something that another group of voters have to pay for and then give them some half-assed argument for why it makes sense.

I heard of a 16 year old girl from Texas, as bad a state as it is, who was married to a 20 year old guy and they had a baby and were doing just fine. A libertarian wants freedom, but realizes the immense responsibility involved. Kids like the idea of freedom, but they don't want to be punished when they come home drunk at 3 in the morning.
