  • Why are people hating so hard on this video? Sure, the title is somewhat misleading but jez, get over yourselves and make a video instead.

  • with that simply fixes it works?, , ,

  • I did it with WDC 40GB fully loaded with important data, I've got an identical working disk with the same board but guess what !

    clink..clink..clink.....fssssssssss..pufffffffffffff...bbbbbzzzzzzZZZZ BOOM ! o.O

WTH... I've lost 2 disks and I'll never try to fix HDD's anymore !!

  • DAVE, A complete waste of my time. I did the PCB replacement with a PCB from the same exact type spare working 20GB hard drive )same Model /HDA/ PCBA /Unique/ Code /Cylinders /Heads & sectors and the clicking did not go away. Take the foam piece on the back of the PCB and stick it up your bung hole. Complete waste of my time, now I have to go back & un-do what I did with the good hard drive.

  • wow replacing it is your solution!?!?

why dont you just tell us to buy a new hard drive?

  • this will only work if the sn# of the new board is within a few thousand of the origanal

  • sea gulls in the background?

  • HELP ME! if you wanna try PM me.

  • cool

  • to repair the damaged circuit board you should replace it with another circuit board, no shit haha

  • This does not help at all.

  • Either way, This is cool. This guy actually did something constructive here. I just watched another video where some kid killed a perfectly good working hard drive. Pointless to say the least. At least this guy is offering a service and showing how to fix instead of destroy. That's cool with me..

  • He replaced the board, which repaired the drive. Did you realize that?

If you replaced a part on your car, you repaired the car, you didn't replace the car.

  • How can you possibly know where is the damage? Is just too convenient to have the circuit board purchased with no return I assume just to check if "that's the issue". Put a proper name to this video to narrow the search the right way.

  • maxtor, thats mine! clicking noise, thats mine! replacement circuit board, thats not mine!!

  • idiot

  • i have a Hitachi USB drive that i accidentally put in a plug thats way more voltage that it was supposed to have. is the drive damaged? please reply

  • @howardkevinm Probably

  • It's self promoting videos like this that really piss me off and has shown what youtube has now become- a video advertising streaming site. Nope, I won't buy anything from you thank you very much. I came on here for advice not an advert to buy something from your site.

  • As for the people saying this isn't repair...well, that just isn't true. Repairing something is replacing bad components with new ones while leaving the rest of the device that is still working properly alone. When you replace a device, you completely discard the old one with a new one--no components from the old one are saved. It's like repairing an engine with a bad starter by installing a new one vs. replacing the entire engine.

  • OK, everyone that is saying it would be better just to buy a new hard drive is missing the point--this is only intended for people trying to recover data off of their malfunctioning hard drive. It's totally worth risking $50 to see if it's just a bad circuit board before ruling that out and sending it to a data recovery specialist for a $600+ service fee.

  • I hate this videos with misleading titles.

  • ha ha ha ha random seagull at 2:26

  • nice butt inspection gloves LOL

  • my 160 GB for my i-pod classic makes the clicking sound. how can i fix this? and can the disk from a regular hard drive work in my i-pod?

  • @greecegun501 I really hope your post is a joke. How can a regular hdd fit in your ipod, LMAO!!!

  • @MrGomobo i was talking about my i-pod hard drive. i didn't specify btw...-____-

  • i have a hitachi xl1000 and sounds the same how cai i fix this model?

  • sexy gloves

  • pointless boring as hell video, misleading title too.

  • I tend to fix my faulty/dead head-drives using a soldering iron and some spare components.

  • @kawaiiultraneo maby you could enlighten me and tell me what it is you solder to repair the boards

  • It makes good music :)

  • So you repair it.... by putting something new on.... woooooooow..... Thanks for the good economic aware tips brah. NOW TELL ME SOMETHING USEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??

  • How to you know whether it is the circuit board not the internal components

  • I gave mine a slap and it worked again.

  • @Olaipai hmmm.... il try dat do u slap ur ide or sata? sounds wrong but yea XD

  • @madfreakinc1 I slapped my SATA and then i shuved my sata connector into my mobo connection and then I gave my SATA another slap. But then I got an IDE, so I also had to slap that into my connection. And it worked!!

  • Thank you very much for your video.I'm always learning something & hope I could use the info in the future. Best Wishes for the New Year, Be, George in NYC

  • Why are you wearing cloth cloves? Seems worse than using bare hands...

  • @TheBrownSys I think they are anti electrostatic handgloves :) to not screw up your entire HDD

  • People! Use your head! This video is only useful if you are in a data loss situation. You are free to buy a new disk otherwise.

  • Idiots... there is a reason why this procedure is done. You do this to save your data. If you have saved all your favorite porn in an old hard drive, you would want to save it. Not replace it. A new hard drive wouldn't come with your old stuff.

  • new hard drive 69.99.

    new circuit board 49.99.

=>i rather go grab a new one :(

  • @LARSI0N when you buy a new hard drive you also need to buy the new operating system as well

  • @Dino000123 no you dont. laptops and desktops always have a OEM sticker with key for the current OS

  • Repair as in not have to buy a complete new one. Like repairing a guitar by replacing the strings. This IS repair.

  • fuck this isnt repairing !! its replacing !! go to school

  • I think id rather just pay $50 for a newer, better, hard drive.

  • lol awesome

  • i used a program called DBAN and i ruined my harddrive, does it mean that can still recover that by replacing the board? thanks..

  • Great if you need the data on the drive.. otherwise you might aswell buy a new drive.

  • OMG This sucks this is not a repair a repair would be fixing the actual LAME

  • What are those cables called. The one you are using in the begin of the vid.

I've look all over the net for one but don't know what am looking for... If that makes sense?

  • @YGBMed1A USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable for 2.5-Inch/ 3.5-Inch / 5.25-Inch Drive with Power Adapter

  • @YGBMed1A IDE cable adapter

  • this is how you fix a clicking drive:

    /watch?v=HMhdEp3SM_w

    :)

  • Sometimes swapping the PCB doesn't work. The drive will spin, but not be seen by the BIOS. You also need to swap over the firmware chip.

  • I have a 250 gig LaCie drive, it failed and has this clicking sound, so I'd like to replace it.

Can't figure out however which board to get...Can someone help me figure this out?

    MDL: WD2500JB - OOFUAO

    Thanks!

  • @r4aVideo if u want to recover data then u have to buy a new one...if u want to have a working hd wait 3-4 months until they drop the prices again and buy a new one

  • I had a clicking hard drive with my new laptop. And, I figured out that the HDD has special power settings, and I changed those settings using Ashampoo HDD Control 2.

  • so.... You say is PCB? Then, very good, I will repair the circuit board... Thank you

  • does this works with the new usb 3.0 external hdd also ? i filmed all my problem here : watch?v=idjiRiPWYpg

  • 10000000000 THANK YOU !!

  • does freezing your hard drive to recover data really work?

  • external hard drive clicking noise, non-recognized... help?

  • You are awesome!!! Thank You!!!

  • not big thing , big problem is get circuit board part, for a reasonable price.......

  • You do realize that "replacing" and "fixing" aren't exactly the same thing, right?

  • @ZaffireWolf agree lols. im guessing now and days they think fixing and replacing are the same thing now lmao.

  • @ZaffireWolf at the most hes giving an idea of what to look at when this is comes by.

  • @ZaffireWolf you bullshit!

  • @ZaffireWolf If it's not "broken" anymore I'd say it was "fixed".

  • I do some repairs for other folks around the neighborhood for some side cash and this technique will come in handy if someone needs me to recover data.

  • @Rakstawr I see you are an advocate of the American health care system, then.

  • Man, I have an entire stack of these in my closet, thanks for the handy upload!

  • Is there any pcb or whatever for the original xbox? The bios is locked so what can I do?

  • @zunehdrocks

Replace the CMOS battery or the jumper that is belong to the battery and put it back. Then turn on your PC tha will fix it. :)

  • do you have model ST340014A ?

    pls replay

    thx

  • this is not a ''how to repair'' but where to buy....

  • nice info, but, how do you define whether its the circuit board or the header thats to blame for clicking and non dectection by the computer? thanks

  • my hard drive has been clicking for a few months (6Y old 24/7), and got a lot worse after a recent power outage (now have battery backup), and it would not boot up.

After swapping the hard drive with a spare, installing win to check if its fried I backed up all my files, i then switched back and it booted up just fine, The clicking happened even when not in use so i put it to sleep just in case, Today i woke up my PC and its no clicking anymore.

How could it just go away?

  • alright first of all sorry for my bad english .. My external harddrive* seagate * the usb port has been fucked up ( its not in place anymore so i want to find the bigger port * not usb * that port that is on video on 0:45 placed at the hard drive thank you

  • THOSE SCREWDRIVERS COST OVER 200 BUCKS

  • @persevere67 ??????????? maybe actual bucks and not dollars...

  • Buy an SSD and you'll never have this problem. This video was relevant when it was posted but this is 2011 people!

  • @CoryDemone

Platter hard drives: $0.01 / GB

SSD hard drives: $1.50 / GB (~$1.00 / GB for 1st/2nd gen SSDs)

This video is still perfectly relevant. Also, when an SSD fails, you're completely fucked as the memory chips are soldered directly to the control board.

  • @Hardwyre 2 TB hard drives are only 20 bucks?! Hot dog!

  • In most cases (a) you're not absolutely sure that it's only the board that needs replacing. (b) the board is not worth the money and you can probably get a larger hard drive for the same money and less time.

  • that wouldn't save the data

  • @tupham81 if you have lost your data then?

  • In The Tech field there is a Term called FRU: Field Replacement Unit , as he said earlier its either circuit board or internal problem. Repair can be done by replacing the none working part specially if its not worth the time and effort to go more technical to fix or find and pay some one with that level of skills, he showed simple trouble shooting skills to fix a complex problem . Nice Info

  • you didn't repair it ! :|...you changed the circuit board :|..i want to repair mine...coz it's too expensive to buy another one...:| it's almost half of a the price of a whole computer

  • @d3du999 i bought a 500gb samsung hard drive off ebay yesterday for £30 and it was new

  • hi how much is that cable for laptop and how is it called ? answer thx ;)

  • He is using Internet Explorer....... why?

  • I just stamped on mine.

  • @thegeneral23 I have I think the same ext hd hitachi 1tb, plug it in it beeps and clicks? Mine is clicking away hoping I can find the right replacement board

  • let me see spend $50 for a new board or spend alittle extra and buy a new drive. Ill just buy a new drive.

  • @gamerplay But it will be worth it to save all your data

  • Awesome!

  • Actually, I was prepared to see the HDD being ripped apart, exploded or dissolved in acid. I can't describe how surprised I got.

  • 2:20, was that a seagull I just heard?????

  • mine doesnt make a constant clicking like that, only like once every second and wont charge

  • my hard drive doesnt click, it makes a vibrating sound. can u tell me whats wrong with it? i took my hard drive apart, circuit board and all. the disk is exposed, i think i touched it. did i ruin the hard drive by touching the disk? is it completely trash now? please help me out thanks

  • @anonimustatts The HDD are assembled in pretty dustless condition. By only opening HDD you expose the surface to dust particles, which will got on the way between disk and heads. In this case it can bring the damage to surface because the heads come really very close to disks. Your disk probably had deflective axis which was out of alignment. You can't repair that by your self.

  • I've got a Hitachi simple drive 1tb. Yesterday it started that clicking noise not sure if the one on the website is the same any chance you could get me one for mine? Its and external harddrive with a power cable and usb cable.

  • why do you use globes?

  • Not to be anal, but I wouldn't exactly call this a "repair." You're replacing a component, not repairing the functionality of the original one.

  • I got a maxtor and i get 1 big click. No more clicks it runs really smooth but it doesnt do anything. Tried to run chkdsk /r but i cant. It somtimes doesnt even reach the xp startup. I get to choose whether to start up normally or in safemode but when the counter reaches 0 it automatically chooses normal startup but then it always makes 1 big click followed by some sqeaky noises and then it freezes.

    Is my hd broken?

  • Nothing a Giant Magnet wont fix

  • hey what does a solid red light generally mean on a motherboard its intell thats all i know i got it for free from a friend ha

  • how to get the replacement circuit board? if its 6yrs + old and out of warranty and i live in india?

  • fuck i threw away my hardrive i did not know its that easy to fix

  • Do you have any replacement PCB's for this hard drive: WD7500kmvv?

    Please respond.

  • unplug it and throw it out the window... clicking gone!

  • @tech4156, @amelkizian, YOU'RE both stupid for not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're."

  • dobra robota !

    good job! :)

  • MAXTOR SUCKS. Where's the WD boards??? you dont have a very big selection :-/

  • wow gloves

  • How about SATA 2.5 " hard drives

  • How about WD harddrives?

  • haha your stupid. how much does circuit board cost? against how much a new HD cost? and you can just backup all da info to the new one with those same cables.

  • @tech4156 Actually... your stupid. The whole point of replacing the board is that the drive is clicking and data can not be accessed.

  • @amelkizian correction YOUR stupid, at no point did he say hard drive wont boot up. And many HD's have clicking but still work numbnuts.

  • I have this problem, but the clicking is not consistent. It goes *click, click*a few seconds pass*click, click* and that's when it reboots. Does anyone know what this means???

  • @moastytoasty54 hard drive failure. you're on the right track. you rather than tinkering in hopes, you might be able get an rma for it. then you might have to get with the manufacturer for a startup disk and reinstall windows on a new drive. i just found my prehistoic maxtor if covered and it's from 2006. worth looking into.

  • Wow I can't believe this works. I bought a AS-IS xbox from a thrift store, its hard drive did have the clicking problem, so I took it apart and found it had a Western Digital Drive that they put in most of the Original Xboxs, and I happened to have a HDD laying around of the exact same model WD drive from a broken Xbox, removed the Circuit board from that and placed it on the clicking drive, Problem solved.

  • local hardware store for the torque 6-8 ;)

  • lol those two top comment :)

  • Better Fix: Don't buy Maxtor hard drives.

  • Excellent and professional.

  • i have samsung spinpoint NO100 SV0602H 60GB hard drive i did't found any mach on the link you given please tell where do i find the circuit board of this modle

  • Depends of the condition of each case of the Hard Disk, sometimes this will be one solution

  • Gonna have to give this a shot. I had a spare HDD I used to hold my movies and media. I had it unplugged for a couple months because I upgraded HDD's and went RAID. One day I hooked it back up to get some movies off of it and the damn thing just clicked. It was working fine when I stopped using it.

  • i know where the problem started, it's a fucking maxtor

  • I just give my clicking hard drive a bath....it works great!!

  • I like yo gloves mate.

  • You are a diamond...my screwdriver bustwhen dismantling an old hard drive and I was trying to find a replacement on ebay, you just made it easier...I know what I am looking for now...Cheers.

  • one of my hd's as fell and even though was in a protecting box, was killed... when i plug it first, it couldn't start well, i unplug and retry and then hearing something like chainsaw :( it's under warranty, but do i have even a single chance?

  • You don't have to go to a "special store" to buy Torx tools. They are everyday, normal, common tools... they have been for at least 20 years.

  • Smack the shit out of it method worked for me,there is a better method, its called buy a new hard drive..

  • Hammer methods and Microwaves are for kids. Try to call FPS RUSSIA.

  • @Mitsonify not funny, just no

  • Ok serious question: I have this new laptop and the hard drive makes a low ticking sound sometimes, but performance is not affected at all, all programs run normally, I heard that hard drives do this sometimes when they're not getting enough power, and I've also heard my laptop would prolly need a better AC adapter, can anyone help seriously? :)

  • @makotomikami It is a mechanical hard drive and sometimes they make clickety click sounds.. It is somewhat normal.. But just to make sure.. Back up everything to an external harddrive. I guess that you dont have more than 250gb of disk so finding a cheap usb drive is very easy. I use a program called always sync that is fast and cheap. The ac is probably not the resason because lappys have, well a battery :)

  • @dadygee Oh, I forgot to mention, when it's ticking, it's just for some minutes, and the ticking is just random, not at regular intervals, but, well, yeah, everyone keeps telling me that as long as it keeps working fine, then I shouldn't worry, but yeah, I should back up everything and it's actually a 640 GB hard drive, thanks for your help! :)

  • i just let my doggie pee on it .. seems to have stopped clicking at least. i will try to plug it back in. letcha know how that goes. holla back now ya hear.

  • yes thats happening to my iomega.. hmmmm interesting. thanks bro

  • lubricating would work well

  • or...you can find torx screwdrivers at home depot or lowes.

  • he sounds like my docter

  • dude the prices of the pc boards are spenser than the hard drive I will buy a hard drive better

  • How we diagnose if it is a faulty circuit board or defective mechanical parts?

  • i put a maxtor board on a seagate hard drive, it told me to get a life

  • Jayne Hoffman lies!

  • You shouldn't be touching the circuit board with those gloves because static electricity can easily destroy semiconductors.

  • @ednja There material, not rubber or latex.

  • @ednja by material i mean cotton or somthing like that

  • there is a click sound inside harddrive, then system hangs for some seconds.

some times it willnot booting. is my HD failed, replacing board will fix this? plz tell

  • Chuck Norris fixed mine

  • it fixes mine. awesome thanks mate :)

  • @MegaMrKpop Yes it does. It works for any and all hard drives.

  • y r u wearing gloves

  • It is unusual and refreshing to have a how-to-repair video that doesn't show someone beating the shit out of the drive.

  • how do you actually find outs whats the problem of the 2?
