Depending on style, ive flatlanded mountain bike hopefully gunna get into BMX soon, but im guessing its like flatland anything, style determines bike customizing
yeah i guess, i'm learning some tricks from a vid, and there r some tricks that i can't imagine them get done without breaks, but when i learned fork glide i started with brakes, now i don't use them at all, so i guess in all tricks can be like that, but some tricks connected with scuffing or written sth like that needs most of the time front brake at least...so i think breaks give a bigger set of tricks to do, which tricks did you do ur mountain bike btw? ;)
brakes doesn't always mean more tricks. in theory, every link and/ or trick in flatland done w/ brakes can be done w/ o brakes. everything has a balance point. look at chase gouin, trevor meyer, sam foakes, matt dandois, wolfgang sauter...all have ridden or ride brakeless and pull just as must stuff w/o brakes.

IMO i think in the very beginning brakes will make the person get in some way some confidence with the bike i guess, when i started with riding and stuff that most important was to get habbit to the way of using the bike i mean each bike is different, by the weight,shape,etc and each one it's handled in different ways, but in the end all we need brakes just for begin,but as you said i think is a good idea don't use brakes,but i still with my doubts about it...small ones :P

honestly, when riding without brakes, you learn more tricks quicker. only because having no brakes makes every manuever that much tricky.
