  • Hi thee I can't get my lens to close aperture can you be more explicit how did yo make it close i got a 5dMII

  • @elio367 try pushing the small button just under the EF-Bajonett Releaser, it will set the aperure to your current setting (if you are in AV or M) for more infos please have a look in the 5dmkII´s manual. Hope it works.

  • Thank you for convincing not to buy it

  • @xSlavic why? it is pretty good for its price, the only thing thats better is the EF 50mm f1.2L

  • I got one ! Excellent !

  • Great video.

  • my aperture blades always open wide and only change when i press the shutter button and then it opens all out again. how do i make the blades close before i took the picture? the only way that works for me is by pressing the dof preview button...

  • @funnyguyindahouse Put your camera into video mode and make sure it's set to manual exposure. Otherwise, it won't work without pressing the preview button.

  • Parabéns pelo vídeo. (From Brazil)

  • This is great. Is there anyway you could do a similar video feat the differences in f-stops with video? That would be VERY helpful.

    Thanks!! :D

  • @chrisjmolina hi there, you cant really set the aperture during video recording, because it would result in a bucking chance of DOF and Brightness, it is not nice. Altough, if you change this setting befor recordning, the changes are similar to what you see here.

  • Can you please tell me, does 2.8 and 1.8 make a huge difference when taking night video?? I'm thinking about getting a new lens 50mm f/1.8 along with my f/2.8 zoom lens but I don't know if it will be worth it.

  • @xxbluejay21 it is a huge diffrence, but is has pros and contras.

pro, you have a much bigger apperture, so you have more light

pro, you´ll have a much nicer DOF

contra, a low DOF will also give you a hard time focusing a moving object.

  • Nice, good info. I'll be getting a 50mm for my 7d when I have enough money. I have the 15-85mm kit lens which is good but I want to get a couple more prime lenses with a wider range of apertures. 15-85 will is f3.5-f22.

  • excellent!

  • My next cam

    *---*

    but in 2012 :(

  • I never understood this so perfectly before.. Which was that camera...?

  • @LeakyWiki EOS 7D, (as its says in the discription)

  • That looks awesome!

  • Well done, a good straight forward demonstration, nice and clear. Just bought this lens, very excited about using it. Thanks again.

  • What ISO were you taking those flower pictures at?

  • Thanks I just learned sumthing new in less than 1 min ;]

  • This video is genius !!!

If i have seen this video before i would have saved about 10 hours to understand what is the aperture means thanks man great job !!!!!! :D

  • hey if you keep the f stop low but in a slow shutter speed, would the photo still have a short depth of field?

  • @obeasthead the exposure has no effect to the DOF, you can select the aparture you want for the best DOF effect and then chose your exposure to make your picture bright enough! :)

  • wow thanks for this video!

  • Great video!! :) Hope the lens is good. I was thinking of buying it..

  • Cool. Should I buy this lens?

  • thanks mate

  • nice demonstration, thx

  • great video! This helped me understood aperture really well. I was confused for awhile!

  • Great concept for a clip! Very well done. Thanks. I just did a series on 5D filmmaking and featured the 50mm f1.4. Cheers.

  • Nice video,thanks!!

  • Simple and right to the point...

  • i have seen many videos and read some e-books and articles but this is what i call "in practice"

  • Very nicely done - well illustrated.

  • gran video ahora entiendo la importancia de la apertura del lente

  • Very interesting. Thank you!

  • Just want to chime in Excellent video... you just saved me $300

  • i'am really happy all of you like this video :)

and because you like it so much, iam going to make another one.

With the Canon EF 50mm f1.2L

Uploading soon :) have fun, and thanks for sharing your comments!

  • I am going to echo a couple of the other comments - this short, straightforward demonstration was a LOT more useful than all the text and graph explanations of DOF that I've read. Many thanks!

  • Why can't more people do demonstrations like this!!!!!!!! I always thought f/3.5 was "Good enough". After seeing your demonstration I see that f/3.5 is already so much smaller than what I expected! Thank you thank you thank you!

  • Perfect and easy summary of aperture Thank you

  • great video

  • I love you!

  • hey can i use the 50 for macro fotography ?

so i guess you can take a picture of a bug and because it's so sharp zoom in and cut the pic to get a close up macro foto , NO ??

  • The exposure is not the same, it is changing from 1/4000 to 1/13, if you look the video again it is shown on the left side of your screen....

  • @TuRtel89 he changing the exposure to show u how it effects depth of field the shutter is changing to he can keep the picture at the same brightness level so u can see actual effects of exposure.

  • @TuRtel89 Where? I only see the SHUTTER SPEED displayed in fractions of a second changing.

  • bellissimo video!!!!!

  • I want this lens :)

  • your video is the greatest Aperture demonstration I've ever seen, No one could explain it to me the way you did with this...thanks alot.

  • Thanks for the test.

  • are you using this as your everyday lens?

  • Up until now, i didn't know what aperture was, but now i do. thank you :)

  • you have "Leukonychia"!! see those spots on your nails its called "Leukonychia" you might want to look it up!!

  • Do you have two 7ds'?

  • Brilliant example of aperture control.

That should make things easier to explain to people

  • good job

  • @cajunfixer SO TRUE! been teaching myself aperture since the beginning of today and haven't found satisfaction til now

  • Great well done informative video. Thanks so much for doing this. Excellent !!!!
