As a Musician/ Composer I am a great admirer from Mike's Songs. Love the special patterns he uses, and the lot of differen instruments. I do it my self and in a way I am influenced by Mike. As I was driving in Wiltshire some years ago I felt the influence. And it is real funny as we approached Stonehenge my Cd player cracked in a funny way and Tubular Bells started to play, ;) That was very Odd gives me goosepimpels as I write this at the moment!

Haven't heard this for a long time thanks for uploading it, my favourite piece is approx 3 and half minutes in,sends shivers up my spine,in a nice way of course.. Majority of this genius' work is just emotional...From a guy who has had mental issues in his life too.. Hope he does some more live concerts before he hangs his boots up..
You killed this song ! Cutting off the very end - classical Mike's climax - is something that I can't understand. You spoilt everything - even if your intention was to keep the listener interested with hiding the best. It did not work. Congratulations - you ruined it... Oh my...
@triffiks I've seen him from just a few meters of distance treat pretty poorly a fan who just humbly asked for an autograph. Also, he didn't attend a fan meeting *he had already agreed to attend*, back in his NOTP 2006 tour. He left his fans waiting for him and the NOTP organization had to cope with that. Not what you would expect from a serious professional musician.

@triffiks From experience - be careful what you wish for. Because these artists produce music you connect with doesn't necessarily mean they are someone you'd want to meet. Oldfield sounds like a troubled soul with not much to talk about unless ordered to by the record company. A nice enough chap I'm sure but the music in your head that has shaped your life to a degree has no bearing on the composer, Mike Oldfield the man isn't in your head because you don't know him. Do you want to know him?
@ColinBobbyDartford let me tell you this,I met Mike in Edinburgh and he was the nicest, most down to earth millionaire,multi-instrumentalist composer of modern times I've ever met.
Wonderful pictures and great, great work from Mike Oldfield. I really sorry, that the most beautiful part of this track is missing. But thanks for the uploading tutanchamon1. Peace...

I love this, after Ommadawn it's my next favourite album, but such a shame the last section and climax are missing here. For me this is his most underrated instrumental.
I like the contrast between this from 1984 and Crises in 1983. Crises has a sort of futuristic sound to it, whereas this is more serene. I like Crises slightly better but this is not far behind.
I really love the "Discovery" album. Listen to the solo in "Discovery", the bass line in "Poison arrow", Maggie's voice in "Talk about your life"... and "to france" and "the lake" are perfect.
Ha, me too... the first time I had it on, I was in my uni-box room with the volume up loud - that part hit, and I nearly died from shock. This song brings back those memories and has completely shaped me - def. his most underrated piece.
Discovery is a great album of Mike Oldfield, my favs are Poison Arrows, Discovery and of course the Lake - especially the final part. (I have chosen this section for my High Tatras 2 slideshow)
Hi Tamas, Discovery is my favorite album from Oldfield and Poison Arrows is No.1 by me as well. That time I have uploaded this post there was a limitation of 10 minutes for an upload, so I was forced to cut my full version..unfortunately, YT terms... Well, thanks for viewing and have a nice day.
I'd agree that this is the best of the tracks on the Discovery album - the whole 10 minutes really gels as a piece of music. Certainly one of Mike's most memorable compositions
:) this was exactly my first reaction when I found out that although I made whole music video...it was too long. YT terms of use that time..max 10 minutes......max 100MB, YT ToU now still 10 minutes:(....max 1GB..as soon as they will extend the runtime, I'll make it whole once again, I promise;).Maybe I'll use the remaining runtime on some of my new videos. Avoir une belle journée, il est inutile de Vex, c'est seulement une chanson
This was the best track to come off the Discovery album. Great to find it on YouTube as well. I must get the CD of the album to listen to this great piece all over again! It brought such vivid pictures into my mind when I used to listen to this track. The pictures compliment the music well too!
A very nice piece ! Eventhough it is hard for me to hear it. I have many pictures of my first love, comming to my mind. She used to live near a lake in Switzerland. I've lost her a long time ago (I'm 41)...
just wow... i have been searching for this album since i was fourteen (im now 38) i could not remember what the album was called. this piece is without doubt the pinacle of mikes talent for ambient realm. it captures the many sounds and feels of the era from floyd to shadows thankyou.
So that has been a really long time, you've been searching for this. I absolutely agree..this piece is one of the best Mikes compositions I've ever heard, if really not the best one. You're welcome.
agreed, definitely best track on the album and I'd even say one of his best instrumental tracks ever. I've been looking for this one on YouTube for ages- thanks!
I Love Mike Oldfield since i was a youngling, well as also a fan of Tolkien whenever i heard this song for some reason it reminded me of Elves and Rivendell and Middle Earth,Plus one of my Ever Fist Strategy Games:Yhe Lords of Midnight,Please make a new video containing the entire song please!good work though!
Tutanchamon, as much as I respect you for putting this song on Youtube I must say that I can hardly understand what you have just done! You arranged a beautiful video only to EXCLUDE THE FINAL, MOST BEAUTIFUL, EMOTIONAL PART OF THE SONG!!! Why, oh please tell me!
Hi Szederp, thanks and you are right!! I've made whole video, but there is a limitation of 10 minutes lenght you can maximal upload..you can imagine how pissed I was after I've realized that alhough it fits with size of the file..its too long...!!!
@Szederp.. You are absolutely right about the emotional part of this composition! This is where Mike Oldfield really shows his talents in a solo that says everything, and can't be forgotten!
Tutanchamon1 are not to blame for doing his best for us to listen to this 10 minutes of (still beautiful music) version of The Lake although we agree, we miss the last approx 5 mins of the number...

Hi karstenmp, thank you and yeah I'm also confused when thinking about, where is this guy taking so much power and inspiration to perform such a great music..he is a genius, no doubt and of course albums like Crises , QE2, Ommadawn are incredible too as well as AMAROK, which is my top...just got Music of the Spheres..one worth MONUMENTAL.. You're welcome and hopefully I'll post some another songs soon..
Mike Oldfield is my all time favorite musician. I don't know where he get it from, but the man is a pure genious when it comes to music. "Discovery" album are one of his best released albums, but, might i say, that crisis,qe2 and ommadawn are some of his finest works also..
bizarre,,,can dimly remember travelling thru the middle east in the innocent 80s listening to this album..i remember hearing mike on the radio in a market in Haifa...crises i believe, thanky for this nostalgia break!!!!!!!!!
LoL times my BRAIN.

Hi tutanchamon1 !!
Mike Oldfield is my all time favorite musician. I don't know where he get it from, but the man is a pure genious when it comes to music. "Discovery" album are one of his best released albums, but, might i say, that crisis,qe2 and ommadawn are some of his finest works also..
Thank you very much for posting this fine music..
