this tune inspires the creative side of my brain which is why i tend to put it on repeat when i'm writing. it takes me somewhere else. a distant place deep inside of myself and show me many layers of creativity that i rarely hear in todays music.
I heard this song when i was in college taking a class about jazz music, which is my favorite genre. this song is timeless as opposed to most music of our generation!

so beautiful. im young so i really don't know anything about jazz but if anyone could point me in the direction of songs similar to this, being slow and melodic and just straight up beautiful
@SiqDopeNasty Go check a song by Coleman Hawkins "Body And Soul " and check out Chet Baker as well....and Bill Evens (he plays the piano on this tune )....
@SiqDopeNasty Send me a message I'll link you to a lot of awesome stuff to get started with. In the meantime try searching "generique" by miles davis - that should get you hooked
@SiqDopeNasty listen to the Bill Evans trio, I recommend to start with Waltz for Debby... also listen to the album Someday my prince will come by Miles Davis
you have to be very stupid not to realize why people listen to david guetta.. to set things clear, i don't. to ones that don't understand... people don't listen it because of MUSIC itself, but because of dancing and having fun doing other stuff... you go to a club mainly to hang out and meet people. those artists still release their "works"(if you don't want to call it music) on CDs, so you may say that most people don't actually LISTEN to "music", just prepare for going out and having fun
@myusernaime you mean people listen to mainstream artists because huge record labels over power real musicians and artists? also these same record labels support sopa and pipa which will in turn give them control over "intellectual property" and take away many creative musician's ability to easily distribute their work? right okay that actually makes sense thanks
@ForeverFD3S Didn't want to ruin this song by bringing up those stuff, but more people were mentioning some other artists than enjoying the music, so just wanted to set things clear.. enjoy miles ;)
@myusernaime But interestingly its a reflection that this era ppl can "have fun to" much less complex music which is sold by the media and sex. WHat happened to the fun of going into a jazz bar and having a drink?
@myusernaime my friend, if they play this music in the club and i just happen to be there, i wouldn't give a damn about mingling with people and all. i would just close my eyes, tap to the music and have my whiskey. this is what i call, Beauty.
I just honestly dont like certain parts of the trumpet....it pierces through the beauty of the piano and basse's chillness. Miles forever a great musician though
This Is real music. I am secretly a a great lover of jazz. I agree with the comment above, how can kids listen to most of the stuff they do today. I love Miles' music :)
Im not sure what happened to me while I was listening to this, but I went some where I've never been. Thank you Keish, your my true sister. Ill love you always. - Te Te
If you're ever so lucky, music will occasionally hit your soul. And you will recall certain moments in you're life, whether good or bad. Those moments that you carry with you every day. A time to reflect. God bless this sound we call music...
I cry everytime I hear this masterpiece. This trancends music, it is an illumantion of the soul, lonilness, love, passion, joy, and life....................................
@GanoMaganza - You do understand that Miles can't ... hear you ... right? He's not likely, at this time, actually reading comments on Youtube. I mean, he's dead. You did know Miles was deceased, didn't you? If not, I ... offer my sincere condolences to you and, maybe more appropriately, to your family.
incredible to think that this was recorded 50+ years ago. Miles revolutionized jazz, in the sense that he came around when Bepop was exploding (charlie Parker, Dizzy, etc) and yet decided to play less notes, that held more meaning. his phrasing still remains unparalleled, and untouchable in my opinion. goosebumps every single time i listen to any song from this album. its a staple in any jazz addicts collection. it is our heroin.
Miles Davis(trumpet), John Coltrane(sax) and Bill Evans(piano), the greatest musicians i've ever heard, i'm maybe eighteen, but i don't understand why peoples are listening David Guetta or others shits like that.. THIS is the music.
@VgOops I'm 26 and when I was 12 or 13 I'd listin to this recording everyday. I love this music too and it's amazing to think this entire album was improvised based off a few sketches of music written by Miles just before the recording started.
Are there any other Miles albums that have a similar mood to this song ? I know In a Silent way is kind of similar in mood, just looking for some others. I find his discography intimidating. Or even other albums by other artist that have a similar vibe to this song?
@DinoBoy31 What's with this tryin' to use "your age" to rationalize things! lol! If you genuinely like (and can relate to) this, then you have the life experience to do so. Maybe those came from this lifetime, maybe from another. Don't try to act all suprized at that last statement. If you genuinely like Miles/Coltrane/Monk/Mingus, this ain't your first time around :-)
@teralogic You don't need to like it, everyone's different. I just don't think I would be able to relate with a human being that cannot appreciate this.
LOL trumpet whatever... still unable to like it *even though I pretend to*...I've been trying so many times because it's so famous but WTF! How do you guys actually like this???
This is the shit that gets me through each and every week. Listening to this late at night in my car with the windows down with every pull from my black n mild wine wood tip. After that 30 minutes or so, Im ready for whatever tomorrow brings.
Miles is an erudite character. His songs are erudite. I listen to this and feel. I just feel. I don't feel blue, I don't feel green; I feel everything. I feel wonderful. Nothing Miles wrote was banal. For a long time now, perhaps years, he has connected with me. To be honest I can't explain how I feel about his music, but I certainly can assure you, that without it, I would be lesser off!
Please tell me if this poem is any good: As I sit lonely, a silhouette in the orange Chicago city light, listening to jazz from a distant time, smoking a cigarette, the music caresses my usually numb mind, and sends me off into the dark abysses of my soul, studying and meditating on the monsters inside, and the autumn leaves gently shake, and my own destitute morality clings to eternal hope, and yet I sit alone in the Chicago darkness, feeling Kind of Blue
@sprucetree49 So you dislike about 7/8 of the poem. The ones you dislike are actually the ones I'd probably change, were I to re-write it. However I don't plan too. My poetry has been getting better as I've been going along. Give me 5 years and I might actually be good. Everything I write right now I pretty much throw away. I wrote this on the spot just writing the way the song made me feel. The only poetry I've ever studied deeply is Ginsberg, which I hate now. So give me time.
On this pebble studded roof, the stars reacting for me. I sit loathing over the woman that left me so suddenly earlier today, closing my eyes i see light. My heart leaks out of my soul leaving me emotionless. Miles off in distant smoky club of my mind play'n soft muted brass flowing though the reality around me. The sound coming from the horn takes me away. Another placeno problems, no worries. I open my eyes to see the sparkling city, contently sighing.
