Logic fail. No such thing exists as NOT something. Not doesn't work that way. Not can only be applied to propositions and propositional functions and believing in god is neither of those.
The devil is a lie!!!!! There is a God && there is only 1 real God. How do I know?? I know because whatever I pray for, I get it. I know God is real because the things written in the bible are things that we go through 2day. Hopefully you will open your eyes b4 its 2 late. God loves u && he want u love Him 2.
Are you praying to Jesus or God? If you prayed towards Zeus would you still get what you asked for? Besides I want to believe that if people want something they go out and get it/do it themselves, not be lazy and pray. If you pray for a job and get it, doesn't that mean that you can't claim all the credit? Maybe even someone was more deserving of the job than you, but you had devine help... how can you sleep at night knowing that you're cheating?
To call atheism a european philosophy incorrectly implies that all people need to subscribe to my definition above. Everyone is born an atheist - they do not believe in God. There are more than 100 million atheists in China and I'm sure that most were born like that by default and didn't make a choice to subscribe to a philosophy. It's hardly just European.
You're not reading what I wrote. I said my video definition was a strong one. Of course all kids are born without knowledge of God. We start off as blank slates. In that regard all kids are born without belief in God (a slightly different definition of atheism, but atheism none the less).
"As far as China goes the reason kids are born atheist is cause they'll but death if you even Talk about Jesus, "
No-one is born an atheist. You know zero about China. Christianity is the fastest growing religion in China. The god of the christian bible is proven to not exist, no atheism (belief there is no god) required.
There may be a god, just not yours or the koranic god or the god of the torah. They've been proven to not exist.
"You say God doesn't exist, how can you prove something doesn't exist?"
We prove what does not exist via formal logic. A logical contradiction is expressed as P and not P at the same time where P is a proposition. The subject of any contradiction cannot exist.
eg: the ball is on the table and the ball is not on the table at the same time. That ball cannot exist.
"LOL you prove your own failure"
No, you proved yours. Logic is not that hard, try it sometime.
"another thing that doesn't exist is your big foot theory of evolution...."
Oh the theory of evolution exists and apparently you've even heard of the theory itself. More theists than atheists believe in the theory, so it has no bearing on atheism. Atheists need not believe in evolution, there is nothing that says all atheists must maintain evolution. I do. But that doesn't matter to atheism in any way shape or form. Pope John Paul II believed in evolution.
Ok you got me there. What I was getting at (even though I phrased it badly) is that agnostism leads to a lack of belief on both sides.
Maybe there is no absolute definition. So atheism is either the lack of belief that there exists a god, or the belief that there exists none. I don't think you can logically argue the definition beyond that. Either way we both have to agree that if you call yourself an atheist, you could be saying one of two different things.
I'm torn between this definition (which I generally advocate) and claiming something softer. This definition is a strong, not sitting on the fence one. However, it brings with it a feeling of irrational faith and hence will draw parallels with religion. I hate people who claim that atheism is a lack of belief.
We do have beliefs, just not in gods. I don't like it when Atheists claim that we Atheists don't have beliefs. But Atheism itself is not a belief. There are all kinds of beliefs out there, and not having a certain one of them, is not a new belief. We have other terms for that. "Believer" lol
I think we actually are thinking on similar terms. Maybe the only difference is how we use words. I use the word belief instead of faith. Atheism is a lack of faith: I think that a lack of faith is a virtue. I think that a clear cut lack of believe is God is agnosticism. An active disbelief in God is atheism. If you said Atheism itself is not a faith, then I'd definitely agree.
You guys can believe that definition all you want, but it's flat out wrong. Having said that, religious people have a habit of making things up and then just believing in them. So have fun with your definition and keep telling yourselves it's the truth.
My definition of atheism.
NOT believing in any gods.

@daNorse,
"My definition of atheism.
NOT believing in any gods."
Then what you call atheism does not exist. There is no such thing as NOT anything.
Not cannot be applied to anything other than a proposition or propositional function.
Where X is anything, not X is not anything.
Your definition fails, as it claims atheism is something that does not exist.

Please, explain to me how I'm a Nazi.

Atheists can be found in all cultures.

none believers yes, atheist no!
For example a tribe men who's never heard of Karl Marx wouldn't be an atheist.
As atheism is European philosophy.
great example of a non sequitur.

Your statement is a severe failure of reason!
Just cause Atheism is a euro trash doctrine , doesn't mean all europeans have to subscribe to that bull shit!
That like saying all white people are nazies.
As far as China goes the reason kids are born atheist is cause they'll but death if you even Talk about Jesus, So much free speech!
I love it when atheist prove their own stupidity !
Oh; yeah kids can't be born atheist, as a their mind can't comprehend such a concept.
LOL!

@peternickson,
"kids are born without belief in God (a slightly different definition of atheism, but atheism none the less"
Nope. Without belief, lacking belief, an absence of belief, not believing... all do not exist. No such thing.
Atheism is a position and all positions are beliefs or truths. Atheism is the position that no god exists, a belief.
We can prove many proposed gods do not exist, the koranic, biblical or torah based gods are proven to not exist. Atheism covers the rest.

Atheism: The doctrine or belief that there is no God.
This video is 100% true!
tvshowclassics 3 years ago
Atheism is not a belief. It's a lack of a certain kind of belief. Close but no cigar.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
A lack of belief in God is agnostism.
peternickson 3 years ago
Agnosticism is an answer to a question about knowledge. "Gnostic" refers to knowledge.
Atheism is an answer to a question about belief. "Theism" refers to god-belief.
