  • Great full edition of Strike it Lucky pumphol did you enjoy your time on the show?

Where was this edition of Strike it Lucky recorded at Teddington Studios or Pinewood Studios?

  • Awesome show Michael is so entertaining. Used to love this as a kid and SIR.

  • It was a fix plain and simple.

  • Sherri just started going middle I had no say in the matter !

  • @pumphol this was you?

  • @MrAndrewGCGibson

Yep that was me in the day I had hair,

no fix though I have to say it did look to perfect, at the time this programme was watched by 20 million people !

cannot believe it was nearly 20 years ago now.

  • @pumphol are you still with sherri? i love the fact that little £300 actually meant something back then. are you on facebook id love to see what you look like now? i preferred lucky than to rich, i liked the old school computer screen. did you enjoy your holiday, still got some of the prizes?

    take care mate.

  • @pumphol was that the plan just stay in the middle if it was it was ingenius

  • the largest desert isn't the sahara

  • I used to record it on a blank tape

  • she wears the trousers

  • @TheNearDistance Totally agree Sherri is not someone who you have an argument with.

  • I used to love this show!

  • awight at the front, awight at the back, awight in the pool?

  • Did you win the prizes or did they give you vochers towards them?

  • @starr086

No Star you got cash equivolent no prizes, the holiday in the Black Forest was worth £400, etc .

No-one on any show got the prizes always cash.

  • Notice the lack of seating for the contestants...

  • £3,000 lol!

  • @perkin158 well it was filmed in 1952

  • @TheNearDistance sorry but my parents bought there first hose in 1957 for £3000

so its a slight exageration !

  • House even !!

  • @pumphol must've been some hose

  • @TheNearDistance 1952?

  • loved this wen i was a kid

  • Twice in 4 years you had to answer the question about the Sahara desert

  • sorry you have lost me on that one !

  • On that episode of Big break that doddzgameshowroom uploaded, did you know the questions of the batrient camel and quicksilver?

  • @Visonu middle

  • He was probably looking at the auto- que

He came into the green room for a few minutes after the recoring & we all had photographs taken with him.

  • Was there an autocue? On some episodes he uses handwritten idiot boards because he sometimes grabs them and shows the audience at home.

So when you met Barrymore on the show, that was all real? That was the first time you had met?

  • Yes that was the first time we saw him as he walked down the stars at thre start of the show.

  • @jeffrey44 middle

  • Great video. I love reading about people's experience of being on game shows. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

What is Michael Barrymore saying at about 4:20? Something like "Don't worry, its where the screens move on".

There are stairs in the middle for Barrymore to come down at the start of the show, there are stairs on the right of the picture for him to use during the game but did anyone ever use the stairs on the left?

  • Looked through that part at 4.20 several times, either Sherri or myself said something to him which I cant make out for him to make that reply, it will just have to be one of lifes mysteries I suppose, other stairs were never used as far as I can tell, just made for Symmetry I suspect.

  • I think I can hear someone saying "We missed them" before Barrymore responds with "Don't worry, it's where the screens move on". Does that ring a bell? I'm not sure if it is you saying this or someone off camera.

Talking of "off camera", I have watched quite a few episodes of Strike it Rich lately and Barrymore keeps looking over towards the left of the screen like he does in your clip. Do you know who he was looking at?

Did you meet Barrymore before the show was recorded?

  • Quite interesting to see when they revealed all the screens that they didn't have every possibility in each bank of three; there were two arrows and a Hot Spot, two Hot Spots and a question, that sort of thing.

Doesn't seem fair really, and for that reason alone I'm glad you beat them at their own game.

  • Cheers Jason

We were told that the jackpot averaged one winner in every three shows, I think you would have found that on every game played it was never just a question, hot spot & an arrow on each stage across.

  • i take it barrymore prefered the bottom ......

  • Damm dat middle row was da bidnuz

  • lol at the womans hair

  • Well most of it was her hair believe it or not.

  • I have to ask what else did that old couple get??

  • They dident get any further along the board, so what they got up to the point the video stops that was it, you do not actually get any of the prizes either they offer but cash equivalent instead.

  • I never know that. but thanks! ( I bet there give the old couple a something extra!

  • a holiday in the black forest... sounds like a name for the best horror flick ever.

  • Does anyone know when the Jackpot changed to 10k? I forgot, or was it just when the show came back as strike it rich?

  • This was 1992 I think the 10k started around 1996 when the first series of Strike It Rich started.

  • when they went bottom there was a hot spot in the middle anyway. they should of gone top!

  • its like watching a 147

  • At the time it was the most watched programme on tv at around 20 million viewers a week, the jackpot was won about one week in four & as far as I know it had never been won in that sort of fashion, to be honest the whole experience was very sureal at the time.

  • why did you go low on q5??? :)

  • Dont ask me I just followed what Sherri said, never disagree with a woman in full flow !

  • Back in the day, that hair was the sex

  • weird

  • Yes its not like your average american quiz show is it.

  • Haha, stay in the middle!

  • have you got the full episode or any other full episode of strike it lucky?

  • I always thought at each stage there was 1 arrow, 1 question and 1 hotspot, so I thought there was a glitch when everything was revealed [at 4:19]

  • You would think that should be the case but in fact when they showed all the screens at the end of a show there would often be two of something in each row at least a couple of times across the board.

  • Loved this gameshow back in the day. Well done on winning.

  • Many thanks, it was certainly more luck than judgement !

  • What year is this?

  • 1992

  • he once tryed to sell me a swimming pool

  • was you the guy in the gameshow

  • Yes that was me in the day when i still had hair !

  • Your misses looks game. Are you still together?

  • Sherri was a friend, the missus was in the audience.

  • Just seen Michael playing Spike milligan he was incredible, Met him before and after show he is the kindest most lovliest man if I could of fitted him in my pocket believe me I,d of shoved him in there hehe( sorry Michael, sorry my hubby if you read this)

  • Amazing to think how much 3k was regarded as then to now.

  • Yes i suppose it was, about 2 years later the jackpot became £10,000

  • What's a hot spot not??

    NOT A HOT SPOT!

  • God, I'd forgotten how watchable this was!

  • Shame challenge dont show these old ones any more, on the strike it rich series

  • shame we cant see the whole episode in all its glory

  • Hi Kaw,sadly i wish i was in a position to upload the clips myself but this was done for me, there were some very funny moments as the elderly chap was very hard of hearing & he was extremely funny especially when he got his comb out to tidy his hair, if only he had some to comb !

  • lol.......listen to the audience at 2:37....when the question icon pops up on screen..lol

  • I can tell you the audience was just as amazed as me when we kept going through the middle, not my idea but Sherri kept perservering in the middle & MB & the audience just got caught up in the monment, what you also have to take into consideration is the fact they recorded two programmes in one day, ours was the second & no-one got near the jackpot in the first programme so the audience were with us.

  • What happened?? can someone tell me?

with all the stuff of fake phone ins and bogus poll's on tv I wonder if the screens were really random.

well lets face it they wouldnt be, if blue peter are cheating then these guys would cheat for the drama.

weirdly it took me until 22 years old to realise that most people were corrupt and are dishonest if they can get away with it in the work place!!

  • fair play mate, that was incredible.edge of the seat stuff.

  • Cheers Airlegend, it did caused quite a stir at the time.

  • Well done mate, do you remember any stories about the prizes or appearing on the show?

  • You actually dident receive any prizes just money equivalent for instance we won a holiday in the Black Forest which was worth £400, i have still to work out what a do it yourself tool- kit actually was !

  • Thanks, I thought they would give you the holiday. What was it like to meet Mr Barrymore? Did you have to audition to be on the show or just apply? What was it like actually being in the studio with the music, audience, equipment and other stuff. I've always wanted to be on a gameshow.

  • Have to go through the audition process to get on shows, live audience is always a bit daunting, MB was a lot quieter than you see on the box, if you ever want to apply for a gameshow just look up quiz show contestants on the net, good luck.

  • One more question, is that really all of Cheri's hair. I've never seen so much hair on one head.

  • Well spotted HD, she had quite long hair but wanted to go the whole hog.

  • Ha, ha. :)

  • Brilliant stuff Tony. Well done mate. Loved it. Dreamdealer.

  • anymore old gameshow clips or footage from challenge tv?

  • Been on quite a few different shows, i hope eventually to put something else up on here at some stage.

  • really

  • On the fifth one, why are there two hotspots, the middle and the bottom?

  • There was never one of each as you go across, if you look at the sixth window there were no hot spots at all, every series used to have twelve shows & there was never more than three jackpots in each series so i feel we were very fortunate to get across.

  • Ah right, I thought there was a question, hotspot and pass on each column, if you get what I mean. It seems a bit unfair if you have three hotspots in one column. Then again, the show was called "Strike it Lucky".

  • That is unbelieveable that the amount of arrors etc were all in the middle! lol

  • no need for the last one.

  • i have not seen this version in years thanks for uploading this

  • No Problem Sosolid the show was recorded 1992

  • i know but when was this on challengetv

  • Around five years ago,it was shown over the space of a year about five or six times.

  • Think the betfair police need to investigate the 'middle man' there.....love the hair by the way.....the long curly hair that is

    Barny

  • Whose wig have you got on, Tony?

    Happy New Year

    TGM and Jane.
