Megan Fox and Heidi Montag are looked upon by women as ladies who try too hard. Nothing to do with beauty evolution as even in the 30s there were women who changed their looks for showbiz, died their hair, had surgery and lost weight to get parts.

The only thing that has changed is that these celebs are hounded on tv/Internet/social networks every single day whereas in the 30s the celebrity fascination was nothing NEAR what it is today.

Checking the links, the issues of the unreachable standard are addressed, as well as beauty ideals around the world, the perpetuation of beauty bias, and the origins of the social idea of beauty through the ages.

Aside from that though, I suppose my comment reflected my desire for a criticism of the standard rather than an accurate portrayal of it over the last 100 years. Neat watch. What stood out the most to me was the changing hairstyles and eyebrow shapes. If it hadn't been for all the comments, Heidi Montag would have been an odd and interesting surprise at the end.

Reading the description shows that she was put in at the end not necessarily because she is "beautiful" (not imo, anyway) but because now a woman doesn't have to be naturally pretty -- she can be built to fulfill her perception of what is beautiful, and that is a current beauty ideal.

Am probably mistaken, but to me it seems the vid is criticizing, or at least highlighting how warped beauty has become, i.e. how prevalent plastic surgery has become.
