I absolutely loved the entire video! The Bossa Nova at it's beginning and the history behind it was very interesting! Loved everything and the wonderful "2 sides" made it all even better!
WOW MAN, a nice collection ya got here. Yeah, you're right! Bossa Nova has been around since the early to mid 1950's.I believe Bola Sete was one of many who brought it over to the states & made it popular. BTW, WHO THE HELL IS THIS shaollin1988? This guy don't know JACK SHIT! With a name like shaollin1988, he was still in his daddy's NUTSACK when this music came out. I was born in 1967, & my dad used to listen to the hell out of this music! I LOVE IT! You need to post more bro!
AF was always willing to release some very avant-garde stuff. I had some big AF band lp's that were great. Usually "cleaner" than even some of the 60's big labels like Columbia and Verve.
interesting record.... no wonder it has gone into oblivion...It is a mix of "south american" music made at the time bossa nova became popular....but must of these players play very unauthentic bossa nove rhythm....including Lalo Schiffrin who is argentinian....sorry, but the music is a wreck.... but it's nice to know it exists....
Really nice. I just started to record my compacts... I put one on youtube already, It's a samba that you might like ''Martinho da Vila - Jubiabá'' check it.
Next in line are Chico Buarque's ''Carolina'' and ''Tem Samba''.
I am SO glad you are enjoying this record. My dad Sidney Frey was founder and president of A/F Records. He brought the great Brazilian bossa nova artists to a famous Carnegie Hall concert in 1962. Andrea (Frey) Bass
Again, an excellent job to bring us these wonderfully played boosa nova jazz musics. Thanks a million. I will continue to follow your great job. Very professional.
Wow! A 200 watt lathe was a rare thing in 1962. Most were running at well below 50 watts at that time. Today records are cut with 4,000 watt lathes in some cases. The audio on the record probably is better than anything being recorded today. :) JC
Respond to this video... thanks for commenting JC. interesting, i'll have to upload some of my Command records, those have lot of technical recording info on them.
@azntranc3951 More power in a lathe means less distortion. The same goes for a good amplifier, too. Having all that extra headroom means at normal levels you'll get a very accurate representation of the original signal. This record probably sounds better simply because the engineers at the time didn't try and make records to be so loud. They tend to really push the envelope today and some are almost impossible to playback properly. They went for clarity back then... :) JC
@shaollin1988 Lalo Schifrin is Argentinian, and this style of jazz is called "Bossa Nova". It comes from Brazil. Thank you for your input, but I, and I'm sure many others out there will disagree with you on this sounding "horrible".
@gilmour509 Count me in as one who disagrees. This album came out in 1962 just as bossa nova was starting to reach out to other parts of the world. It would be another two years before Getz/Gilberto would be released in the United States.
Thank you for this presentation. I always wanted to hear this entire album, and I love the way you presented it. I particularly like how the graphics from the album jump out, so we can read them. Really nice work. Thank you.
@shaollin1988 I'm from brazil too. Po cara, bossa nova ruim?! É claro que nunca ouviu na rádio, a bossa nova é da época de Tom Jobim...etc... naquela época era só isso que passava... e samba de raiz.

@shaollin1988 You are not a very smart brazilian, try to learn more about this music before make any comment. Bossa Nova is almost in extintion in Brazil because people like you. " Girl from Ipanema" &
"So Nice" were considered the 2 most played songs in the world comparing to any other type of music.
gilmour509 is trying to educate the public, we need more people like him not like you.
Thank you very much for your kindness, Gilmour. You make a great job with those old precious records. I especially appreciate the care you take in presenting the cover information and technical data. And I also love the neat sober way you organize the videos.
@cedricsamson thanks the good words! most importently, thank you for pointing out the error on the first upload of the album.
the goal for my "Full LP" uploads is the give the end viewer the closest experiance to actually owning the LP. so i wanted to give the viewer more than just watching the record spin, because one of the other great things about vinyl, is having the real-estate on the sleeve for info & technical notes.
parabéns pela iniciativa de postar estes videos, ouço quase toda noite !!!! perfeitoo!!!!

Just a question: how did you manage to upload such a long video? Because I thought there was a 10-15 minute time limit?

Never cease to amaze your videos and excellent audio quality.
Good choices that they make.
Greetings.
(I still owe us the picture disc of Michael Jackson ... lol)

@BadEditPro
hey JC, what's the difference between a 4,000W lathe versus a 50W lathe ?
Is it because the 50W lathe cut slower and hence better sound quality ?
(sorry for replying to such an old comment too haha)

@gilmour509 I'm Brazilian and never ever hear on the radio these songs anywhere !!!
Are you sure that this content is from BRAZIL???
If you are from Brazil, that there is a region of local small and little known...
I am from Jaú - São Paulo - BrAziL (city - state - nation)
I think this style of sound horrible, I think this style should be dead a long time xP
