this was the actual 12" version release at the time so this was THE classic! (unless of course you're talking about Neil Diamond's classic which is so very different it's almost a different song.
Wow!!! I just heard this song tonight and I was back in another place of great memories with beautiful music. Where can you go these days to listen to music like this?
I think the only place you can listen to music like this these days is...smoke a doob, close your eyes and put on the cd or youtube.haha i love this song, it holds the memories of a LOT of drunken days many moons ago :)
Right on, Nick. Good for you. St Etienne is quite a quality group and good music is good music. I love them both and I've been a Young fan since the Teach Your Children album, though one can go back and find superb stuff before then with Buffalo Springfield.
I used to start the Maya Deren reel at the same time I'd start a CD, just to see where it went. Chameleons UK had an album that worked sweet this way. Buy the Maya Deren DVD and try it. Awesome!
Originally it is a Neil Young song, however when St. Etienne first released it, the song was sung by Moira Lambert and the Video was black and white. this version is Sarah Cracknel who joined the band after the initial demo & Video with Moira was released.
The good old days . .

Moira Lambert's vocal is just so good on this track - it's loose and just a little "spacy" - goes fantastically well with the percussion.

Absolute classic. Neil Young's version is good but i think this is a rare example of a cover version being better than the original. Awesome

@enoughalready100 I understand the same "he HIDES his head inside a dream" ... no offence saltnsaucedammit, but it makes more sense, anyway.

Neil Young, and I have a feeling that's what they were referring to.

Normally, I am *not* into synth music and am a die hard Neil Young fan. But this was well done.

This is an interesting remix...
Just a little diff from the original...it's got that stuttering 909 rim sound and the drums are otherwise taken down a notch.
Good video without the captions.
