Basically it means that when they see some thing they cannot verify, they theorize about how it POSSIBLY could be. Very educated guesses, but guessing still. In theoretical physics, literally ANYTHING is considered possible, regardless of how incredibly improbable - and so he can claim ANYTHING. He is only offering us his opinion, a future prediction from a charismatic false prophet.

I'd like to clarify my statement - He's not predicting that those five cities are preordained to be destroyed. Actually from what I've seen and read from Dr. Kaku is that he understands that mathematically speaking, probability and geology dictate those five cities have a significant risk. That does not mean they will be the five to be destroyed in our lifetime. So, he's not right in saying Tokyo or LA WILL be destroyed. It's just possible, and that's why he's not wrong either.

@Vissago22 No conservation laws are broken. If the Earth rotation loses energy, then it must be gained somewhere else, for example, a little extra heat in the crust. The Earth's tilt does change over thousands of years because of natural cycles. Those events (ie earthquakes) which shift it an inch or two are something entirely seperate. Also, don't confuse magnetic shift with tilt. The magnetic poles could flip completely and the axis of rotation remain exactly as it is.

For all of you freaking out about the end of the world. He CLEARLY said that it is NOT ENDING. The reason they hype of a terrible solar flare even arose was because of a miscalculation, so whos to say the re-calculation of the miscalculation is wrong aswell. We can all hope that it is, but we must still prepare, just incase. Better to be safe than sorry.

I'd like to clarify my statement - He's not predicting that those five cities are preordained to be destroyed. Actually from what I've seen and read from Dr. Kaku is that he understands that mathematically speaking, probability and geology dictate those five cities have a significant risk. That does not mean they will be the five to be destroyed in our lifetime. So, he's not right in saying Tokyo or LA WILL be destroyed. It's just possible, and that's why he's not wrong either.

Stop with the alarmist behavior. Tokyo survived the earthquake. Much of the north-eastern coast did not. There was a huge tragedy, yes, but if you look at Japan they're repairing, rebuilding, and moving on. It's what they do. Tokyo got hit. That's expected. LA got hit in '94. It's still there. Carry on.

@Vissago22 No conservation laws are broken. If the Earth rotation loses energy, then it must be gained somewhere else, for example, a little extra heat in the crust. The Earth's tilt does change over thousands of years because of natural cycles. Those events (ie earthquakes) which shift it an inch or two are something entirely seperate. Also, don't confuse magnetic shift with tilt. The magnetic poles could flip completely and the axis of rotation remain exactly as it is.
