Farah Pandit is a KASHMIRI Indian. Her ancestors were "Kashmiri Brahmins" who converted into Islam, though they must have converted fairly recently (within the last 200 yrs or so), as she has still maintained her Saraswat-Brahmin surname of Pandit. Btw, Kashmiri Pandits are not the same as these Hindus in India in terms of ethnicity or even religion. Plus we are Saraswat Brahmins (and our ancestry is originally from Central Asia).

I agree with you, Obaid. It would have been 100% better to have a real muslim of stature to be the liaison to the muslim world in the State Dept. But I am not surprised that Obama lite chose Farah Pundit. He's proving to be a leader with little courage in almost all areas.

It means "scholar", ie learned one.

It's interesting to see a name "Farah Pundit" which is half Muslim and half Hindu. Maybe she considers herself a Muslim, but her heritage is visible in the name.
