  • A GOOD MAN!

  • It sounds as if he is bi-polar and it sounds as if he has had a lot of probems as well.

    But what a friggin' musician!

  • I wanna hug him and never let him go

  • Sounds like he regrets alienating James iha and has latent homosexual tendencies.

  • I love how he talks about the criticism at the start of his career like it has the significance of an insect :)

  • I think he looks better as a waif

  • once he says that smashing pumpkins was him and just him... that was so arrogant, so egomaniac... and so true... he could says "im arrogant, you'll see the reason of", he's just amazing... a rock icon, a 90's icon

  • I don't see why people say he's arrogant. He's very personal, not caught up in himself. On a lighter note he's a musical pioneer. He really found a sound thats different and I wish I could do that.

  • I KNOW!!!! I really really really don't get it.

He always seems really geniune and really nice to me.

I mean, I'm sure as a musical genius he's aware of yeah how much of a pioneer he is. But that's not being conceited that's just knowing you have a strength and a talent. + Even knowing that he doesn't go around being fake or being a jerk!

  • I don't care if people say he's an egomaniac I love him:)

  • He is hottttttt!!!!!!!!!!

  • i thought it was about him enjoying everyday he lived hence"today is the greatest day ive ever known" "ill burn my eyes out before i get up" to show how eager he is to start the day.

everyone has theyre own opinion i guess....

  • its a song about breaking out of that ,the triumphant melody says as mucb....

  • perfect for a character platform......we'll see.

  • By way there are two different songs of Today the acoustic and non acoustic and acoustic has really sad beat its really amazing verson of song actually.

  • They made the song today upbeat to make more commercial kinda like hide meaning behind it. Billy wrote when was suicidal but I think his pain comes across in the song as apathetic to referring to ending his own life. And that in its own sense to me makes the song anti suicidal song because Billy not trying tell everyone kills themselfs he actually expressing his pain within the song.

  • He didnt make it commercial, he said he wrote it while he was depressed and thought the melody really had some resonance with the meaning. I think it has the feeling of an unwanted reveille, like someone trying to wake you up when you're trying to sleep

  • @rohiogerv22 Today always seemed to me to be a point where a person is so sad, so melancholy, that they can't take it anymore and decide to erase everything from their brain, erase feeling and be "care free". So its like the melody is upbeat b/c that is what's on the surface. But then the lyrics are "I'll burn my eyes out", "I'll tear my heart out". Not very upbeat images.

    Thanks for your time

  • The thing I love about "Today" is that it's like a battle between the light and the dark. The verses have this light, carefree tone while the chorus is heavier and grittier. And at the end, the light wins.

  • what pisses me off is how people go, quit your bitching and stuff like that when he is just stating what happend and how he felt

  • this IS a big problem with the world. feelings, especially sadness is looked at as weakness or 'whining'. sure, some people do whine but most people who talk about feeling sad or suicidal or whatever are being very brave in doing so, because negative criticism is bound to come their way. it's like, let me bare my soul so you can piss on it and call me a faker/exaggerator/whatever... not that many people are willing to bare their soul in the face of that. billy is.

  • No the real problem is the fake empathy with little action. No one cares.

You were born alone. So you will die alone.

  • Talk about projection. Just because you've experienced and/or been the perpetrator of 'fake empathy', doesn't mean that's all that exists.

Empathy in and of itself does not imply action. At all. Don't know where that came from. Furthermore, whether someone is sincere or not doesn't really matter; it is up to you to change your situation. Are you implying that if someone was 'really empathetic' they would fix everything for the empathize-e?

  • I'm suggesting people are afraid of looking like an asshole so they play along.

  • No argument about that, some people do just 'play along'. However, most people have a circle of people that are personally invested in them, and aren't just humoring the person.

Still, I don't know where you are going with making a blanket statement that seems to say all or most people don't give a shit about anyone but themselves, ever. Where are you getting that from, if not your own personal psyche/feelings - and actions? Certainly you can't read people's minds and know for sure either way.

  • even the circle. The inner animal wants domination. Study Freud. He was right.

  • Some DO care. Maybe it's just those who you have met that don't.

  • If we cared no wars would exist

  • Maybe thats why he started listening so much to goth music

  • Thank you for sharing this with us on YouTube. It means a lot to hear this interview to me. So, thanks.

  • Awwe, I feel so sad for him! :(

  • hes a true role model and Today was song about his life its an anti suicide song

  • no, it's not a anti suicide song. he wrote it when he was suicidal.

  • This is why I love the Pumpkins. I never had to hear him say this stuff because I heard it in his music. You could tell it was there, you know?

I barely survived high school, but after that I found my way out of Depression was loving other people. Working with kids at church, volunteering to help people with their dreams. Helping the world. It's funny, I spent so long looking for love and then finally found it was inside of me just trying to get out.

I'm still not saying saying it's easy.

  • @RyEdwardsMusic Oh, how hard life must have been for you, wealthy suburban white male.

  • @manka6

  • i bet u are very successful with the opposite sex (sarcasm)

  • @marxistsoldier I think they molested the libido right out of him.

  • @RyEdwardsMusic thats really helpful man. im finding things pretty tough at the minute. I try to help others and stuff but its really hard sometimes. Hopefully this will help turn things around. thanks man

  • @RyEdwardsMusic I know it's a really old post but I just gotta tell you that I just listened to "Today", and after that this isn't that much of a surprise. "Pink ribbon scars that never forget. I've tried so hard to cleanse these regrets". So I agreee, it's there. He's brilliant in this interview. Completely opened up and just really genuine.

  • @RyEdwardsMusic for sure man. I've never suffered depression but I've had 2 family members who have taken their life because of depression and what you said is dead on. The love that you need is inside of you trying to get out. Anyone out there who is suffering from depression I hope they know that taking their life is not the answer. Everyone is special and amazing in their own way and I wish they could see that !!!

  • I can relate to that kind of depression

  • I was obsessed with them in the 90's.

  • me too :)

  • great comunicator

  • this man is my hero.
