i've been smoking for about 5 years and i'm fine physically. I can run a mile, in fact i've ran marathons, but i only smoke about 4-5 cigarettes a day. i used to smoke almost 3 packs a day, but i cut back, because my grandfather has emphysema.
This may seem weird, but I found quitting tobacco actually really easy. I guess some people are just most compulsive and dependent on it in other ways beyond even physiology..
If you can get through the first few days without a cigarette, then the cravings go away quite quickly, and then when you smell cigarette smoke it makes you feel sick.
@OrthodoxDarwinist not everyone is the same. some people are genetically more likely to get hooked on certain things, while some people have a kind of "immunity" to them. i have smoked on and off for years, but have never craved one. i only smoke socially and never smoke more than 20 a week. i think it is unlikely that this could cause me any long term problems but am going to quite completely anyway. it is a ridiculous, silly, filthy habit.
Yes I think it also has something to do with the idea that it really genuinely doesn't make me feel good. There's no euphoria like other drugs. The only real purpose of smoking for long periods is to feed an addiction and get this shitty little buzz that a coffee could probably give anyway. The idea of spending that much money (tobacco is taxed through the roof here in Australia) for nothing seems absurd at best.

I got from this video is that it's meant for prevention. You can't make an addict stop doing what they do if they don't want to. I don't have to agree that dying from complications to smoking is a better alternative than dying in a car crash but as you said, it's your decision and your body. I hope everyone who works in this industry burns in hell.

@ScottishHades I completely agree with you when you say no smoke wants to smoke. My dad actually quit for a good year by sucking on lollipops. When he was craving it, he'd put a lollipop in his mouth, but it didn't last. My mother tried Chantix, but that also didn't last. It's a hard struggle that I hate seeing them go through. Tobacco companies have been putting chemicals additives in the tobacco that makes them more addictive. If you haven't seen a movie called The Insider, you should see it. It stars Russell Crow as a research chemist who is attacked by Big Tobacco Industries after he agree go on 60 minutes. He life and his families life is actually threatened, his wife eventually leaves him.

@addernoir01 I honestly will never ever try one. It may sound childish, but I don't even like handling the packs of cigarettes, a cigarette itself, or ashtrays. I'm the only one in my immediate family that doesn't smoke (minus my 9 + 5 year old nieces). My mom, dad, 2 sisters and brother in law smoke, as well as all of their friends. I've never had the urge to try it and never will. I see the destruction it does and luckily I have the will and strength to not do it, not many people have that.

My sister was like me when we were younger, she hated smoking, but started hanging out with the wrong crowd and started when she was 16 (she's now 21) so I've been trying to get her to stop too. My parents have been somewhat talking about stopping more now, so hopefully they're serious. Just whatever you do, don't give up trying to get them to stop. It's a hard habit, but if you keep begging them, who knows what can happen :)

I think 1 thing that helped was that you could smoke while taking it. Seriously people it was almost effortless. 1.5packs a day habbit gone forever. All of that extra money is a big plus.
tobacco is not that bad. It was never meant to be smoked in the first place. It was like all grass meant to be eaten, or made into tea through brewing. Companies knew that and added over 100 bad chemicals to a cigarette and cancer is the result.

Smoking anything is really stupid. My Grandma smoked all her life, died of breast and lung cancer at the age of 50. Grandpa also died of Cancer and he really suffered lived to 67 and had a very painful death. Great Uncle also died of lung cancer. Dad has COPD, needs lung transplant, on oxygen and STILL smokes. He has a friend who smokes cigarettes and pot and is also on an oxygen machine.. Its really not worth what happens to you in the end. As far as pot goes.. too much of anything is bad..

@chyeahmishelle your parents do want to stop smoking. I asure you when i say no smoker wants to be a smoker. i am an ex-smoker. Suggest 'Allen Carr's easyway to stop smoking' it got me off the weed and it is now 2 months since my last cigarette and i am happier than ever. Never stop supporting them in kicking the addiction.

@ScottishHades I completely agree with you when you say no smoke wants to smoke. My dad actually quit for a good year by sucking on lollipops. When he was craving it, he'd put a lollipop in his mouth, but it didn't last. My mother tried Chantix, but that also didn't last. It's a hard struggle that I hate seeing them go through. I'm definitely going to mention Allen Carr's program, thank you for recommending that!

@chyeahmishelle I would have to agree with you. I smoked for about 27 years, I have been quit since July 4th 2010. Tobacco companies have been putting chemicals additives in the tobacco that makes them more addictive. If you haven't seen a movie called The Insider, you should see it. It stars Russell Crow as a research chemist who is attacked by Big Tobacco Industries after he agree go on 60 minutes. He life and his families life is actually threatened, his wife eventually leaves him.

It's horrible to see what these things do to people. Mouth cancer, lung cancer, heart attack. My dad actually has a stomach anyuerism from smoking! I've never seen that movie, but I'm definitely going to watch it! It makes you wonder what these people that work for these companies are thinking!

You can't. It could get you too. Don't ever even try a single draw on a cigarette. If you want to know what it's like to smoke just light a fire in the back garden and stand over it and inhale. @addernoir01 I honestly will never ever try one. It may sound childish, but I don't even like handling the packs of cigarettes, a cigarette itself, or ashtrays. I'm the only one in my immediate family that doesn't smoke (minus my 9 + 5 year old nieces). My mom, dad, 2 sisters and brother in law smoke, as well as all of their friends. I've never had the urge to try it and never will. I see the destruction it does and luckily I have the will and strength to not do it, not many people have that.

My sister was like me when we were younger, she hated smoking, but started hanging out with the wrong crowd and started when she was 16 (she's now 21) so I've been trying to get her to stop too. My parents have been somewhat talking about stopping more now, so hopefully they're serious. Just whatever you do, don't give up trying to get them to stop. It's a hard habit, but if you keep begging them, who knows what can happen :)

I hate to sound like a damn spokesperson or something but, I tried everything to quit and nothing worked. A buddy of mine had started taking Chantix and had been on it for about three weeks when he told me about it. It worked, both of us have been smoke-free now for 3 years this month. WOOT WOOT
I think 1 thing that helped was that you could smoke while taking it. Seriously people it was almost effortless. 1.5packs a day habbit gone forever. All of that extra money is a big plus.

tobacco is not that bad. It was never meant to be smoked in the first place. It was like all grass meant to be eaten, or made into tea through brewing. Companies knew that and added over 100 bad chemicals to a cigarette and cancer is the result.

Its the same way - enjoy tobacco the right way and dip it - yes, there is a cancer risk, but its pretty damn tiny compared to smoking. Smoking anything is really stupid. My Grandma smoked all her life, died of breast and lung cancer at the age of 50. Grandpa also died of Cancer and he really suffered lived to 67 and had a very painful death. Great Uncle also died of lung cancer. Dad has COPD, needs lung transplant, on oxygen and STILL smokes. He has a friend who smokes cigarettes and pot and is also on an oxygen machine.. Its really not worth what happens to you in the end. As far as pot goes.. too much of anything is bad..
