  • I feel bad for those who only listen to Smells like teen spirit. This song is god damn epic.

  • the bridge is my favourite part of the song

  • WHO DISLIKED THI VIDEO! I WILL FIND YOU!

  • The title "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" is just pure genius. It's just one big "FUCK YOU!" to the whole media industry. Kinda like a "Is this clean enough for you, big radio corporates?"

It's also totally ironic because it was obviously never going to be a radio-friendly unit shifter..

  • The bridge kills it with the singin and the drumming. Thanks for loading the song

In no order, but I adore everything they did.

  • This music got me through some tough times when I was a herion addict, I could really relate to it!

  • nice channel

  • 2:05, jizz in my pants

  • this song is 2 fingers up to all those douche-bag DJ's out there - you included tom dunne

  • One of my fav Nirvana songs.

  • This song is ok but they probably should have put "You Know Your Right" on the album instead.

  • Dave Grohls drums are the shit on this song!!!^^

  • @Noganrhy They always are. Thats why I along with Kurt think that Dave is the greatest drummer of all time. Hes spot on with everything

  • yh y yh what he said what h ment yawn...burn it ...burn it alll yawn

  • this song is shit except THE CHORUS

  • 2:05 - 2:30 always make me go insane ! frigging awesome

  • what is wrong with me ?what is what i need?what do i think i think?who am I?what do I want?where do I belong?who do i want to be?Why am I here?what happens when we die?Whats the point of it all?why even bother?

  • r.i.p. kurt .you will always rule

  • great intro

  • This is one of their most under appreciated songs.

    For those who don't know,

"USE ONCE AND DESTROY" is what's written on UB insulin and allergy syringes.

  • This song is so fuck good, my favourite nirvana song I just don't understan how people most of the like prefer Lithium, Smells like teen spirit, come as you are... but whatever

  • @lcsm115 i prefer it all

  • @lcsm115 oh wow dude really? i think that means you're hella indie... way to go

  • @lcsm115 Dude who gives a fuck. The only important thing is that we all love Nirvana and we will always love Nirvana until the world ends.

Nirvana fans shouldn't break up into a rivalry about which Nirvana song is the best.

  • @lcsm115 Yes i agree this is by far my favorite nirvana sons, the lyrics are perfect music is amazing and it is an experience to hear Loud.

  • @lcsm115 my favourite songs are: lithium, love buzz, hairspray queen, serve the servants, you know your right, blew, milk it, stay away, something in the way and old age

  • @lcsm115 its because they dont know the real nirvana

  • @lcsm115 honestly, I like them all, but if I'd had to weed one or two out that get a little old a little fast they'd have to be teen spirit and teen spirit.

  • @lcsm115 the bridge kills it

  • @foxfingers in a good way!

  • @lcsm115 Because they're good songs? I don't have a particular favourite nirvana song, because they're all fucking amazing.

  • @lcsm115 maybe in those songs they find the melodies to be better and more enjoyable. but i definitely don't like teen spirit much, with lithium and come as you are i like the beginning riffs. i prefer songs like downer, scentless apprentice, papercuts, big cheese, lounge act, on a plain, in bloom, dumb.

  • @lcsm115 I prefer Lithium ´coz that´s the firs one for me (listened) and I fell In Love with Nirvana for that simple song, Every single song by Nirvana it´s just breath taking! lml,

  • @lcsm115 i prefer it all by nirvana

  • @lcsm115

Because they really do not know Nirvana

  • to me (because of suicide attempts) this song explains deppretion, when you wonder what you can do to make everyone satisfied with you when everyone else are the ones making fun of you.

  • In Utero is one of the top 5 albums of the past three decades, fact.

  • @mussman717word Past three decades? more like past three centuries.

  • @mussman717word

That is an opinion dick head.

  • @figaz555

    Uh... nope, it's a fact.

  • I wonder why the name of the song is "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter"

  • @rockbudd0250 RFUS is a term used by music execs to describe a commercially viable single (gets lots of radio airplay) that helps "shift" (sell) "units" (albums).

  • @RideMyBMW wow thank you for the answer man !

  • @RideMyBMW this song was ment to be ironic because of all the shrill feedback noise, also works with the lyrics "what is wrong with me?"

  • I can proudly and shamelessly say this is my favorite Nirvana song.

  • Dudes, youtube : "In Utero 8 Jack Endino Sessions" Its the tracks in the original order as Kurt intended them. "In Utero" was supposed to be an 8 song abrasive in your face punk rock record....no pop sh%$, no filler, but Nirvanas record label refused to release Kurts vision. "In Utero 8" rescues Kurts original idea. Listen to the tracklist, it plays like a true masterpiece. Check it out. It kicks off with "Scentless".

  • @RideMyBMW thats awesome what were the tracks orderfor the 8 songs

  • @avo7778 scentless,very ape, milk it, RFUS,tourettes,Frances,Rape Me,You Know You're Right

  • @RideMyBMW rfus? ..man that sounds like a bad ass album...if only things worked out the way it should have

  • @RideMyBMW never mind its radio unit haha wow

  • The guitar riffs go right through me, always have.

  • how on earth did he get that wavy guitar effect throughout the song

and all of the feedback that quickly

    FUCKING GENIUS

  • whats with the statue, someone answer me plz?

  • @ulmxn the statue is of an angel stripped of her skin, showing who she really is...on the back of the cd case it shows a pile of fetuses which shows how people use each other

  • he uses a electro harmonix polychorus to get that sound

  • my favorite song

  • Underrated song. I love it so much though. RIP Kurt!

  • This tune shoulda opened In Utero not Serve the Servants. I have to admit I was a little disappointed on my first listen 17 years ago when Serve the Servants came on. I woulda left it , heart shaped box and dumb off the record. The weakest tunes on the CD. Otherwise, an instant classic.

  • i love the cover

  • He did use a DS-1 on Bleach, Insecticide, and Nevermind but he ditched it for the DS-2 right before he recorded In Utero.

  • fuck ya!!! this song's brutal.

  • LOVE THIS ALBUM!

  • D7 :) dimension seven! <3

    R.I.P Kurt Cobain! 5 april! :( <33

  • what is wrong with me? i hate humanity....

  • @elliot7655 that's normal everyone goes through that

  • I know what's wrong with you :

You have a lack of attention therefor you're posting stupid comments

    Anilingus 999*

  • to quote Dylan: "They're just words, man."

  • Actually, in an interview kurt said that most of his lyrics are just copied and pasted from old poems, and he said it bugs him that people are always trying to figure out what they mean.

  • i don't try,i like them just the way they are (= i like the fact i have no idea what they mean

  • @thedude652 Yeah that's true, but he also said he tried hard to actually really incorporate thematic elements into In Utero specifically, so that he would actually have a solid answer when asked for the meanings of different lines and tracks.

  • @thedude652 Kurt also said that he would write a lyrics then purposely contradict or mock it in the next line.

  • @thedude652 Yeah. Sometimes, songs just have random ass lyrics. Like this one. haha

  • @thedude652 Cobain also wasn't the type to want people in his business, he was secretive. Telling people that his lyrics mean nothing is just him trying to get privacy. His lyrics (most of them, at least) have actual themes, especially the songs on "In Utero". Frances Farmer was based off of a book he read, for example.

  • @ziyonraito Francis Farmer is actually based on an actress called " Francis Farmer "

  • @HowzUrSister86 A book based on Frances Farmer, I forgot to add.

  • @ziyonraito Ooo right awesome.. I never knew it was a book I just heard it somewhere.. Thanks.

  • @ziyonraito Or Sappy, which is a turtle Kurt had and kept in a laundry room and he thought it was happy but Dave always thought it looked sad hence "Sappy."

  • @Chayse88Black That's a load of absolute rubbish

  • @silencethescreams Umm, no actually it's not. you can also watch the music video it shows his turtle and you can look it up everywhere. So don't talk shit unless you can back up your own shit. Dave says where the name came from in a anniversary for Nevermind, he also says where other names and other things in songs came from.

  • @Chayse88Black Don't swear at me cuz you're angry at your family kid, get some manners.

  • @silencethescreams Also, you haven't backed your "shit" up, find me a factual or reliable source that mentions it... Thought so ;)

  • @silencethescreams Well, saying total incoherent and unrelated subjects such as my family doesn't really make you look like you know what you're talking about. The reasons as to why I "swore" at you is because you are trying to start an argument over the internet safe behind your keyboard. Also, you're obviously are too illiterate to read because I said it's in an interview for the anniversary for Nevermind. Just save yourself the time and drop it okay? Grow up.

  • @Chayse88Black P.S. so you know, Sappy was written about his mother

  • @silencethescreams Could you provide some proof of that for me? Because I kind of think that's a load of absolute rubbish.

  • kick ass

  • this song is the best song in " In Utero"

  • How does he do what he did in the intro? D:

  • you can either bend the strings or use pedals or effect box he used like a BOSS DS1 or 2 and Flanger at the same time.

  • Cobain didn't likes DS1 :)

  • but he did use one earlier in his career then he took on DS2 :)

  • yeap

  • he used DS1 with Smells Like Teen Spirit dint he??

  • @Cx203 I wonder how you guys know this. When I was younger I tried to recreate the effect using a Fender Mustang, a Fender Reverbirator, BOSS flanger, BOSS Heavy Metal, and a BOSS Phaser. Still couldn't get it just right. Of course, I was on a limited budget.

  • @woodchipperfaceplant you can mix the Electro harmonix polychorus, delay, echo flanger, distortion, the Electro harmonix polychorus could be a must, but I really don't know what Kurt Cobain used but he used some crazy pedals, but you can always improvise.

  • @77SystemOfaDown Thats cus the ds1 sucks, but its cheap. Its pretty good for the 15 bucks i paid. I think its like 35 in stores new.

  • Thank you too Cx203 >:]

  • he uses a electro harmonix poly chorus pedal + boss ds2 for that sound

  • Thank you defmanz. >:] I shall look into investing in some pedals!

  • yeah. boss ds-2 rules! but expensive.. :/

  • favourite nirvana song

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS

  • agree
