  • @ultramarine1234 i'm sure you should be able to. should be on hatful of sorrow.

  • @BloodyCatastrophee Thanks mate.

  • @ultramarine1234 np. =)

  • HEEEE knows so much about these things....ohhh i <3 IT!!!!!

  • the smiths!!!!!!!!!! none can compare

  • Johny Marr and Morrissey together were THEY the Gods instead of The Smiths

  • My first smiths song. i listened to hatful of hollow everyday in 1984, William was the 2nd song then the rest. Accually i heard it on wlir and loved this charming man. i have problems

  • My first smiths song. i listened to hatful of hollow everyday in 1984, i have problems

  • One of the few occasions when I don't prefer the Hatful of Hollow version. Still great though of course.

  • This is higher than the actual track. Lol.

  • GOD FORGIVE ME I CAN'T STOP PRESSING PLAY

  • a wonderful feel-good song

  • purely sweet....welcome back to the guitar twang

  • I wish this song wasn't so short! <3

  • My best friend is in jail right now and this song always reminds me of him. Love you Logan.

  • @poormilk IM FREE BABY!!!! i am chugging a beer listening to it right now. I love you sam

  • i got to the point of crying to every smiths song cause its so good.

  • i havnt got a stitch to wear!!

  • <3 itttttttt!

  • at the end of the day do you really think morrissey cares for you opinions?

he is a man of principles, easily mis understood,

respected by the people who matter, his peers

his genius lyrically is undisputed, you can call him all you like but at the end of the day....

he has houses in LA, london, italy etc and is loved by thousands of people.

hes earn't his way in life and made a difference,

is that what your doing mouthing off about a popular musician on a website?

  • I completely disagree with Morrissey's sentiments concerning immigration, but like Benito Juarez once said, "Respect for other's rights equals peace."

So, as a Mexican, I'd have to kindly say to Morrissey fuck you, but of course with all respects.

  • I love this song.

  • the smiths are like orgasims

  • Single version is better.

  • is this song about two fags butt plugging?

  • @MarxistDomination no...not at all. it's about a man talking about himself and his contradictory ideas of self..

  • @MarxistDomination : Aren't most Smiths songs about two fags butt plugging?

  • @UHandsomeDevil no man, they really are not... I don't know where you came up with that... Morrissey is straight. And probably get's tons of hot pussy all the time.

  • @MrBobbySasquatch hes actually asexual

  • @MrBobbySasquatch : I dunno, most lyrics imply some rather gay moments, I've read somewhere where Marr said that Morrissey would get ton of action after concerts before his whole celibacy bout, but let's be fair here, most Smiths songs seem to imply some fagtastic moments, and that subject seems to be kinda touchy with them.

I mean more power to him if he actually is, but at least from his lyricism it sounds kinda gay.

  • @UHandsomeDevil I don't think they imply gay moments... what lyrics imply that he's gay? You could make almost anything out of some of his lyrics...

  • @MrBobbySasquatch : Off the top of my head in "Handsome Devil" "Who will swallow whom?" and I'm pretty sure that is from the perspective of a guy. I dunno, I've never heard of a guy swallowing on a woman. That sounds pretty gay to me.

Albeit, yes I am drawing wires from thin air and connecting things. The original comment I made about most Smiths songs being about fags butt plugging was more of a joke, and to be honest, I interpret most of their songs as satire, and some times as romantic songs

  • I can never it still once I press play! It's a good thing I'm home alone! :D the smiths!

  • bon iver is better than your mom and the smiths suk

  • @cursed2hpwns and ur here..why?

  • how can i download this version?

  • @Skato3939 the compilation album is hatful of hollow... im sure you can find it

  • Morrissey doesn't even know what he believes.

The whole immigration thing might be a huge joke on his part for all we know. He's an enigma.

    Regardless, this song is amazing.

  • His voice is life, death and everything in between.

  • His voice is life, death and everything in between.

  • Check out 'Convalescence Kid: Nothing left to lose' This guy is pretty awesome!!!

  • いい曲だね。ギターアレンジがお気に入りです。

  • I actually think I prefer the peel session version you know

  • I feel like I should be shot for having heard only the Death Cab for Cutie cover of this song.

  • I feel like I should be shot for having heard only the Death Cab for Cutie cover of this song.

  • Why pamper life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?

  • @munchie400 one of the best lyrics in pop music!

  • The man is an enigma and he changes his opinions every few years. He' used to claim he was gay.

  • Really like this version the guitar sounds more relaxed. :) thanks for the upload!

  • lovely song

  • The beginning of this song immediately makes me smile. :)

  • @Dchick97 yoo

  • fuck i love the smiths

  • i don't take him as a racist and I am a Bengali born and raised in England, so I am as English as Morrissey I guess you could say. Anyway colour/ethnicity/religion shouldnt come into liking good music.

  • @smithslover1 no your not as English as he is. Your as British as he is. Ethnically speaking. An American could be just as English but could never be British.

  • @candybooll I disagree. He may be white, but he was born to Irish immigrant parents. My parents are immigrants too, ie they were not born in England. I was. I count myself as British first, Bengali later. An American may have been born in America, or speak American English. Everyone is essentially an immigrant..just keep going backwards. Anyway my comment was to all those racist fools out there.

  • @smithslover1 I understand you smithslover1. Morrisey say that, because of some Clash of Civilizations that rose, sometimes. Is not a matter of racissm, its a matter of some dificulties that arose, sometimes. Those problemas may appear, between countries of Europe, for example, or between countries of Asia, or America.

  • @smithslover1 eh... whatever. Thank god for the Smiths.

  • There are more negatives than plusses to be gained from a multicultural society.....sing it mozza !

  • @steveoxo how so?

  • Hope indeed. Blessed hope. This is all the hope I need!

  • Love the bass in this!

  • here are some flowers and a classic for your birthday, b good fella

  • nice to see some genuine, informed discussion on a discussion board, for once. makes a change from the rabid wank one usually sees posted...

  • I prefer the other version of This Charming Man :s

  • the smiths and morissey.very popular and so much respected here in the philippines.

  • i like this version so much, it's the 2nd Maida Vale session they did i think.

  • It does for me what no other song can.

  • Please check out my video of the smiths' hatful of hollow version of this charming man with pics of the band((: it's the second vid on my page. Let me know what youu think!

  • i prefer the other version, it just has more bite, and when they play it live too

like when they played it at the Top of the Pops

this ones just doesnt really fit with the lyrics for me : /

  • The best version of this song. Sounds so delicate.

And calling Morrissey racist is pathetic and blinkered. Get a grip you bigoted idiots.

  • Is this the single version or the Hatful of Hollow version? Or are they the same?

I've become a bit confused with all those London and New York remixes :P

  • Que hermosa cancion de los smith

  • it's wierd-the first version I ever really heard was the one on the queen is dead, so whenever i hear this on (probably the proper one) i always get dissapointed when he doesn't screach before the chorus! haha.

i should listen to this version more so that it gets implanted in my mind as the better one

  • this is my favorite version of my all time favorite song!

  • Yeah, in this version they are totally in front of the beat. In the other one (with that guitar riff in the intro) they are more in the middle of a pocket/groove. Both are great

What do people like better, this one or the other one? sorry, that's vague.

  • It ends and leaves you wanting more!

  • Sounds like it's going faster than recorded : O

  • The bass makes this song complete.

  • @Simon69ification the whole song makes this song complete...

  • No, Rourke's a total genius. As is Marr.. but yeah ;)

  • excellent, really appreciate the precise sounds on the guitar, what a voice. i fantacise of singing like that at a live pub performance!

  • the smiths are better than your mom

  • @facethruster138 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @facethruster138 that's because some girl's mothers are bigger than other girl's mothers :p

  • @facethruster138

the smiths are better than anyones mom... @ my mom sorry!!!!

  • @facethruster138 Smiths are better than yer mam (!)

  • @milbomilbo of course they are

  • @facethruster138 exept your mom

  • i seriously LOVE this song

  • Me too :)

  • Sorry girls, but there is no woman in the story of this song.

  • @MrOscarWild I'm sure you can appreciate that mr. wild(e)

  • This is the better version. The guitar sounds immaculate, it's much too buried in the single version.

  • its from the hateful of hollow cd

  • what is this version called?

i know it's different to the original...

  • nice pic!

  • best song ever. no doubt about it

  • i havent got a stich to wear lol its good isn it. I like this tune alot.

  • "I would go out tonight, but I haven't got a stitch to wear" I'm gonna say that the next time I'm asked out :p

  • Punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate, will nature make a man of me yet ????

  • wat

  • This is the John Peel session version.

  • Being anti-immigration can't affect how good he, and the rest of The Smiths were 20 years ago. So I'mma keep on listening.

  • He wanted an England for the English.

  • have a thumbs up. i plan on leaving this country sometime and migrate somewhere hotter so i cant complain about immigrants surely people should be aloud to try better theyre lives by moving country. we all share this planet.

  • not crazy about this version.

  • I dunno man. I love both. It's too sublime to be bad regardless of version. :P

  • Luv it ...even now more..than then.....

  • swing along!

  • yay!

  • Much prefer this version, fucking awesome.

  • Makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck an' a shiver run down my spine Beauty.

  • excelente tema

de una gran banda como the smiths

que seria de la musica sin ellos?...

    lo mas

    lo mas

    the smiths

  • great band

morrisey was great in the smiths.

    hes abit odd though

    apparently the guy is celebat!?

  • completely anti-immigration too. complete bastard...but i think we can forgive him :)

  • Hehe, can only just forgive him :L

If the Smiths weren't so brilliant.. :P

  • Being anti-immigration doesn't make him a complete bastard, nor does his celibacy :/? He was misunderstood by many, judged by most, admired by few.

  • Well said :)

  • @ZombieEatYourBrains anti-immigration does not make him a complete bastard but a bastard nonetheless. the son of irish immigrants he has the classic "shut the door behind us" attitude of a lot of irish that live in the uk.

  • @metal1313 I'd rather not think of him as a bastard at all - anti-immigration is surely a natural reaction of feeling frightened of the unknown which can be the case during a rapid change in culture and loss of national identity which Britain IS experiencing. In that sense, the natural reaction is also likely to be to group together with what/who you know, protecting it.

The world is geared for social change, diversity and equality. Unfortunately it can be difficult to accept in it's rapidity.

  • @ZombieEatYourBrains there is lots to be gained from a multicultural society. its bad enough that morissey flirts with the notions of anti immigration but when it comes from the son of immigrants as well then it makes his opinions even harder to stomach. he has a large latino and mexican following in mexico and in america but i bet you wont ever hear him complain about too many immigrants over there.

  • @metal1313 I agree, there is a great deal to be gained from a multi-cultural society, but at the same time I understand the reaction of many people who feel Britain's own culture is being encroached upon and is slowly being diluted. And I'm also just saying that the difference between a foreign immigrant and a relatively neighbourly English speaking immigrant is significant - in many ways they're entirely different despite being intrinsically similar.

  • @ZombieEatYourBrains Admired by me : D!

  • @chohime100 (Y) :).

  • @ZombieEatYourBrains very well said friend!

  • @ZombieEatYourBrains

Yes it does make him a bastard. His family were Irish immigrants.

There is nothing more assanine than immigrants who have a problem with immigrants??

Also, he now lives in L.A, making him an immigrant once again.

I still loved The Smiths and Morriseys music though.

  • @renuholykuti

Maybe he is ok with white people immigrating?

  • @renuholykuti im mexican i know what your talking about morrissey fan all the way

  • @ZombieEatYourBrains lol yo those from your own words? I love that line.. "He was misunderstood by many, judged by most, admired by few." Sounds like you're describing me my self haha

  • this has a awesome beat to it, morrisey's voice takes used getting to, but the guitar is good and the smiths are alright.

  • I literally get chills.

  • Morrisey's voice is so pleasant and hypnotic.

I love almost everything from The Smiths.

  • almost?

  • I love this song.... makes me feel great everytime i listen to it

I love moz and his music

Just triggers so many emotions listening to them

  • radio one john peel session

  • Aww... This version doesn't have the amazing "Oooahh!"

between the bridge and the chorus.

  • great video. was the this official one? great band too......

  • i love so much this song!

is so fresh, melancholic and happy at the same time, like the smiths!

  • Haha this is my skating song. I skate so good to it.

  • What the fuck are you talking about man?

  • Hehe your cute! You just show that in fact you are the mental freak. Maybe you are just scared to say what you really feel. Maybe you have always wanted the strong arms of a man around you at night but due to your fear of social persecution you hold it all in. =/

  • lol wut?

  • Valeu!!!!!O Brasil agradece!!

  • Whatever version - this tune stands on its own. Wordsmiths of the finest:)

  • No words can describe what I feel to listening this song. So perfet!
