@nameless212 So naive children like you don't spread misinformation on videos like this, why else jackass? Delete your comments and spare the human population your stupidity -- PLEASE.
@nameless212 It is DEFINITELY NOWHERE NEAR the 90's. You have absolutely NO biology / anthropology background to back this up. I've studied human antiquity and conventional darwin evolution for over ten years -- you have NO idea what you are talking about.
@nameless212 That statistic couldn't be more off. Biologically apes are close to humans but ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE NEAR 99%. The bone structure and size ALONE would precipitate a 50% biological difference in the LEAST. Do some research instead of blurting out bullshit so naive internet users like yourself don't take your word for it and make the population dumber.
Koko doesn't talk, no gorilla or chimp or bonobo can use language. They are simply not capable. Humans are he only species with true language. Her owner has mental health issues & effectively stole her from the San Diego Zoo.
@KenMacMillan She can't verbally talk no? that's because gorillas has not developed good enough vocal cords but they are smart enough to understand and learn language.. they can listen to words and respond correctly with sign language, It's proven why is it so hard to comprehend? -.-
@KenMacMillan what?.. yes she can convey feelings and ask for things with sign language, she also understand the words with a deeper meaning because she can describe for ex. certain animals using 2 words like water+bird = duck, this is tested, why are you arguing with me??
@musicplayah The inability of non-human apes to speek is a scientific fact. This woman lied about koko's abilities & stole her from the san deigo zoo.
@KenMacMillan lied? are you mentally challenged or something? There's thousands of clips of her using sign language, it's not like Francine has 5 clips of Koko using it and no one has ever since met the gorilla. Even celebs have met her, why the fuck are you trying to argue about something so obvious? how about study some sign language..come back.. watch it again? The owner of the zoo has said when the testing was over Koko was supposed to go back to the zoo, however he has never demanded it.
Hm, I think it is possible to understand gorillas and find a common base with them if we are there from the very beginning and see as we see with little children how their understanding, not only the outer communication, is built up. There we can find a mutual understanding. If we had a wild gorilla and could have it grow up in his/her group and live with them, we could raise a translator. It has to be on equal footing to work.
@nameless212 At the moment? Not any more than you can speak to someone of a completely different language.
But I do think we could learn it if we employ what constructivism taught us about language and before that,w hat it tells us of how we explore and understand the world. That seems to be similar in both species indeed. Also, we share some body language codes.
You guys should check out ALEX the talking parrot. They're way off on the evolutionary tree from us, but he can communicate through spoken language since he can vocalize the words. It just goes to show that animals have always been smart but we probably didn't know because we weren't paying attention to their culture or body language.

Gorillas on the other hand? Far more chilled, though an ape is an ape....
We are not 99.9% biologically identical to gorillas. In fact, often at times two humans may not even be 99% identical biologically let alone 99.9% identical.
@myfacesp you just stroll into this comment section and say ,humans are much smarter than anything else on this planet, and walk off...you are a fucking moron
they do not understand what they are saying, i doubt gorrillas even cry with tears, this is just teached by humans, and what the gorrilla got was some sweets
Your argument would be a lot better if you didn't use the word 'teached' instead of 'taught'. It immediately makes me question the intelligence behind your point.
The point of this video, and of the research behind teaching the gorilla, is to prove that these animals do think. They have a great capacity for learning and can learn to speak our language. They are sentient.
As a thought, how ridiculous is it that they can learn our language, but we cannot learn theirs.
@199219931994S Yet again your post is riddled with mistakes. You cannot even grasp the simple principle of the difference between 'your' and 'you're'. So I think you can discredit one of those languages immediately, assuming that you claim English as being one of the 4 you know. If you really want to turn this into a competition, I actually speak 5 different languages. If you really want to compete on intelligence, I would be more than happy to, because there is a 99% chance that I will win.
There is a difference between mild internet laziness and an inability to fluently speak a language. Second of all, his arguement is very valid and you have no basis that you would have a 99% chance of winning in a competition of wits. I think the overall point of our side is that gorillas cannot think in an abstract way and learn or comprehend to an adequate degree any human language.
@aidenramsey First of all, the improper grammar has nothing to do with the point he is making.
Second of all, what language do they have exactly? Maybe simple forms of communication, but not a language. And yeah, I bet we could figure those out quickly, except it's completely impractical to learn.
@myfacesp Firstly, the improper grammar and spelling is very relevant. He is trying to say that the gorilla in question is unable to learn a language. As we can see, the Gorilla is quite perfectly demonstrating the human sign language. However, the person I previously replied to showed an incapacity to even learn English properly. Also, I am less inclined to take his belief seriously or consider it on an intellectual level due to the many errors.
@aidenramsey No, their point is still valid. Their is a difference between an inability to communicate in a complex way and mild laziness, which is probably all that is, so, his improper grammar is irrelevant, and look at the content of what he's saying.
@aidenramsey By the way, if grammar is an issue, "firstly" would send your arguement into the bucket. But I am not judging on your grammar, just your content.
@myfacesp Language is defined as methods of communication that allow an individual to co-operate with others. Although you may not understand the methods of communication that a Gorilla uses, you must admit that Gorillas have a very complex social hierarchy defined by interactions. This shows the use of communication for co-operation. It is impractical to learn how their language, but it is equally impractical for a Gorilla to learn our language. It just demonstrates their capacity for learning.
@aidenramsey Hey, I agree they have a capacity to learn, but not nearly at a human's level. Listen, all's I said was was that they were intellectually inferior to us. And, ok, maybe it is a language, but an inferior one, that doesn't demonstrate abstract thought. Read more about her like I said and you'll see what I mean. And, it would be impractical for us to learn their language, we can agree on that, but if they could learn any of most human languages, that would save THEM a lot of trouble.
Gorillas definitely aren't primitive humans, or less evolved. They share a common ancestor with us. Their evolution took a different route than ours did. They're from the same generation of species, so to speak. Think of it like a family tree. There are our common primate ancestors, those are like our parents. The gorillas are like our dumb siblings.
Fuck all these comments that suggest that gorillas are as intelligent as we are. Unless these comments are by gorillas, this is not true. Gorillas are not capable of abstract thought, and this is such huppie bull shit.
@myfacesp Not as intelligent maybe but close. Their IQ might be around 75 or something but that means they can still grasp much in some fields that would blow preconceptions out of the water about them just bein regular animals
Actually, the very Gorilla in this video has demonstrated the capacity for abstract thought, having invented the compound word "eye-hat" meaning "mask". They are not as intelligent as most humans and there can be no serious questioning of that. But they are pretty damn close and are certainly capable of abstract thought.
@nashertheatheist This is not abstract thought. Read more to see why scientists doubt her ability to think in an abstract way and why the "evidence" saying otherwise is flawed.
@nameless212 sure they have but their thought of mind isnt in are state do you really think they think of money or war on a regular basis no of course not they probably think more one survival rather than aspects o are lives we should be more like the gorrila
yea, she could be doing random signs, but if you dont believe shes doing something that makes sense then you can go look up every single movement she did with her hands to see if it matches the subtitles..
lol@the dude who thinks only african history is disgusting. look how horrible european history was, and that was WRITTEN by fucking europeans. imagine how bad it really was.
To kekislizarazo: Not replying because it's a 1 year old comment -
But humans are more evolved than gorillas, why would we need to be more like them? And I'm pretty sure Koko is an experiment to test the intelligence of primates, not scientists saying "Primates must be like humans!"
seam smarter than most african people. not shopping of each others hands and think they can get rid of aids by showering, while playing rambo in the jungle under their corrupt regime.
my girlfriend is black so don't come with any accusation about me being racist.
@massimpify I won't accuse you of being racist but ignorant. First, you use poor spelling to attack an entire continent as if it's a country and make sweeping generalizations about its people.
@19sweetandbrown86 ok mr spelling nazi, youtube correct the spelling so that the words is written right but if that's not good for you we can take it in swedish. exactly, so don't try to make yourself look superior because you just ridiculous . you don't realize, and you never will, that actually you are the ignorant one coming up with that drivel that you've heard tons of times and a lot of people have seen through.
When since when did anything evolve... like what ? tell me.
Who made us... God didnt... fuck there is no god idiots...
HOW WAS GOD MADE...
its about science and realism and biology.. Not some make believe person who apeared on this random rock in the universe who all the sudden knows how to make everyone..
@naxrox Yes, but understand that the life is the biggest luck you ever had yes? If you will think a while then u will see that everything is very strange and you start looking for sense of this everything..then you need a god. it's doesn't matter that is there god or not, people need a god to give respect for their life.
okay I don't see why people disagree with evolution
Look at the gorrilas facial structure. It is very similiar to a humans, especially a black human ( no racism intended). Their social structure is similiar to ours. Their intelligence is brilliant. The way they walk is not like a normal 4 legged animal. their walking style suggests that they can walk on two legs. gorrilas and other primates are just a more primitive version of the human.
Because by my religion all organisms were crafted of the same material but humans were given a separate set of intelligence that other animals dont have
lol beats beliving in magical people who live in the sky and grant ur every wish. Then one day this magical person said " let there be people!" and magically people were created. now is that common sense to you?
yea thats, why humans made up god, just so they can be relieved of that question. hes not real just some idea, that some guy came up with 4000 years ago
that not what we are saying, you can't see it, or directly measure it, or measure it's effect on things around it.
Their is no way to prove god, their is no evidence for a God, the only thing that keeps God Alive is Faith, which is not valid in any argument.
God is just as real as the flying spaghetti monster i just made up in my head, he created the world under his spaghetti tentacles, and he created light by removing his tentacles.
You take the non-existence of any kind of a higher force through fate as well. You've made up your mind based on very limited information. Therefore your argument is invalid.
I guess the idea that the universe just appeared out of nowhere and through chance seems very logical. You've been spending too much time in atheist sites.
i see no evidence for God, i do see evidence for evolution and many other scientific theories.
I do not say that god cannot exist, because i don't know, and i never will know, my logic tells me to not believe in something i can't prove or see evidence of, so i choose not to believe it.
By all means, if god popped up in front of me right now, i'd believe.
but we all know from bible class etc, that God doesn't go out of his way to prove himself to non believers, they are supposed to believe on faith alone.
I'm sorry, but that argument is so cyclical, i could just never argue it, because ti would go on forever without any actual proof he does or does not exist.
You keep believing what you want to believe,e that is all good, but don't state it as fact in order to try and convert people, it just sets them off more.
There actually are mathematical formulas to calculate consciousness, the problem is, we don't have computers to even begin calculating the consciousness of an earthworm, much less the human body.
Also, evolution isn't a theory anymore, it's a proven fact.
Creationism, or ID or whatever the hell you people want to call it tomorow in order to get it taught in school is nothing but a fairy tale, it provides no proof of itself, and only tries (but fails) to disprove evolution.
Of course there is no God, evolution explains everything that primitive people of the past have tried to explain with illusions and mysticism. Now science shouldn't allow for people to remain ignorants any more. Religion has no future, can you imagine 500 years from now that people would be teaching Jesus to aliens? Only deluded fools believe in fairy-tales because they want to live forever.
But of course the reality is obvious. What do you expect happens when you die? You'll return to the same state you were in before you were born. Big, empty, eternal nothing. You will simply go back into the darkness from which you came, your earthly remains will perish and it will be as if you never existed. Everyone will follow the same fate as we know there is no such thing as a human soul to survive. At least you'll be freeing some vital habitat for the human species.
"gorrilas and other primates are just a more primitive version of the human."
That's simply not true. Our similarities are not evidence of them being a primitive version of us, but that we have a common ancestor. All non-human primates are just as evolved as we are.
@kekislizarazo I think its just the fact that humans feel comfort in seeing others that are similar to them in nature. It is not necessarily that we would want things to be more like us but for us to see that we have things in common with others.

*you're
sammoman123456789 11 months ago
@199219931994S Yet again your post is riddled with mistakes. You cannot even grasp the simple principle of the difference between 'your' and 'you're'. So I think you can discredit one of those languages immediately, assuming that you claim English as being one of the 4 you know. If you really want to turn this into a competition, I actually speak 5 different languages. If you really want to compete on intelligence, I would be more than happy to, because there is a 99% chance that I will win.
aidenramsey 11 months ago
There is a difference between mild internet laziness and an inability to fluently speak a language. Second of all, his arguement is very valid and you have no basis that you would have a 99% chance of winning in a competition of wits. I think the overall point of our side is that gorillas cannot think in an abstract way and learn or comprehend to an adequate degree any human language.
myfacesp 11 months ago
@aidenramsey First of all, the improper grammar has nothing to do with the point he is making.
Second of all, what language do they have exactly? Maybe simple forms of communication, but not a language. And yeah, I bet we could figure those out quickly, except it's completely impractical to learn.
myfacesp 11 months ago
@myfacesp Firstly, the improper grammar and spelling is very relevant. He is trying to say that the gorilla in question is unable to learn a language. As we can see, the Gorilla is quite perfectly demonstrating the human sign language. However, the person I previously replied to showed an incapacity to even learn English properly. Also, I am less inclined to take his belief seriously or consider it on an intellectual level due to the many errors.
aidenramsey 11 months ago
@aidenramsey No, their point is still valid. Their is a difference between an inability to communicate in a complex way and mild laziness, which is probably all that is, so, his improper grammar is irrelevant, and look at the content of what he's saying.
myfacesp 11 months ago
@aidenramsey By the way, if grammar is an issue, "firstly" would send your arguement into the bucket. But I am not judging on your grammar, just your content.
myfacesp 11 months ago
@myfacesp Language is defined as methods of communication that allow an individual to co-operate with others. Although you may not understand the methods of communication that a Gorilla uses, you must admit that Gorillas have a very complex social hierarchy defined by interactions. This shows the use of communication for co-operation. It is impractical to learn how their language, but it is equally impractical for a Gorilla to learn our language. It just demonstrates their capacity for learning.
aidenramsey 11 months ago
@aidenramsey Hey, I agree they have a capacity to learn, but not nearly at a human's level. Listen, all's I said was was that they were intellectually inferior to us. And, ok, maybe it is a language, but an inferior one, that doesn't demonstrate abstract thought. Read more about her like I said and you'll see what I mean. And, it would be impractical for us to learn their language, we can agree on that, but if they could learn any of most human languages, that would save THEM a lot of trouble.
myfacesp 11 months ago
Gorillas definitely aren't primitive humans, or less evolved. They share a common ancestor with us. Their evolution took a different route than ours did. They're from the same generation of species, so to speak. Think of it like a family tree. There are our common primate ancestors, those are like our parents. The gorillas are like our dumb siblings.
nevadie133 1 year ago
Fuck all these comments that suggest that gorillas are as intelligent as we are. Unless these comments are by gorillas, this is not true. Gorillas are not capable of abstract thought, and this is such huppie bull shit.
myfacesp 1 year ago
@myfacesp Not as intelligent maybe but close. Their IQ might be around 75 or something but that means they can still grasp much in some fields that would blow preconceptions out of the water about them just bein regular animals
Gameguru667 1 year ago
@Gameguru667 There IQ is not 75. They are not as smart as Forest Gump.
Another thing, I wasn't saying they were regular animals.
They are much smarter than most, but as much as humans, not even a candle.
myfacesp 11 months ago
@myfacesp
Actually, the very Gorilla in this video has demonstrated the capacity for abstract thought, having invented the compound word "eye-hat" meaning "mask". They are not as intelligent as most humans and there can be no serious questioning of that. But they are pretty damn close and are certainly capable of abstract thought.
nashertheatheist 1 year ago
@nashertheatheist This is not abstract thought. Read more to see why scientists doubt her ability to think in an abstract way and why the "evidence" saying otherwise is flawed.

okay I don't see why people disagree with evolution
Look at the gorrilas facial structure. It is very similiar to a humans, especially a black human ( no racism intended). Their social structure is similiar to ours. Their intelligence is brilliant. The way they walk is not like a normal 4 legged animal. their walking style suggests that they can walk on two legs. gorrilas and other primates are just a more primitive version of the human.
thundag0d 1 year ago
Because by my religion all organisms were crafted of the same material but humans were given a separate set of intelligence that other animals dont have
fakedude33 1 year ago
no offense, but I don't care about your religion. I'm talking about science so do't bring that into this.

thundag0d 1 year ago
@thundag0d no because thats not it and does it make sense that you are related to a banana and if yes than why cant you explain consciousness
fakedude33 1 year ago
wut does consciousness have to do with religion. write your sentences better. you are too close-minded and brainwashed
thundag0d 1 year ago
@thundag0d other than the fact that science cant explain consciousness and your soul would be a clear explanation for it...
fakedude33 1 year ago
yea thats, why humans made up god, just so they can be relieved of that question. hes not real just some idea, that some guy came up with 4000 years ago
thundag0d 1 year ago
your telling me a guy 4000 years ago could describe that life meaning a heartbeat is achieved in a fetus at 40 days?
fakedude33 1 year ago
yes science has proved that. You know like actually proved it. not like god which is just a belief shared by people.
thundag0d 1 year ago
oh yeah! that's a great explanation for one of the most complex questions in history!
we have souls because of imaginary things, that also cannot be measured or explained in any sensible way, called souls!
where do souls come from!? O, God gave them to us of course!
why didn't i think of that?
robotron26 1 year ago 3
If you can't see it, then it can't possibly exist. The best simpleton solution.
HellesBringer 1 year ago
@HellesBringer
that not what we are saying, you can't see it, or directly measure it, or measure it's effect on things around it.
And you can't disprove that, or prove it.
robotron26 1 year ago
You take the non-existence of any kind of a higher force through fate as well. You've made up your mind based on very limited information. Therefore your argument is invalid.
I guess the idea that the universe just appeared out of nowhere and through chance seems very logical. You've been spending too much time in atheist sites.
HellesBringer 1 year ago
@HellesBringer
you don't understand my point of view sir.
i see no evidence for God, i do see evidence for evolution and many other scientific theories.
I do not say that god cannot exist, because i don't know, and i never will know, my logic tells me to not believe in something i can't prove or see evidence of, so i choose not to believe it.
By all means, if god popped up in front of me right now, i'd believe.
robotron26 1 year ago
but we all know from bible class etc, that God doesn't go out of his way to prove himself to non believers, they are supposed to believe on faith alone.
I'm sorry, but that argument is so cyclical, i could just never argue it, because ti would go on forever without any actual proof he does or does not exist.
You keep believing what you want to believe,e that is all good, but don't state it as fact in order to try and convert people, it just sets them off more.
robotron26 1 year ago 3
This has been flagged as spam show
@robotron26 yes. that is my attitude too. if they have proof of god, then why dont they show us? i will believe it when i see it.
bonoboperson 1 year ago
@fakedude33
There actually are mathematical formulas to calculate consciousness, the problem is, we don't have computers to even begin calculating the consciousness of an earthworm, much less the human body.
Also, evolution isn't a theory anymore, it's a proven fact.
Creationism, or ID or whatever the hell you people want to call it tomorow in order to get it taught in school is nothing but a fairy tale, it provides no proof of itself, and only tries (but fails) to disprove evolution.
robotron26 1 year ago
and god isnt? lol except thier is nothin that proves god exist when there is pretty solid evidence of evolution
Phresh1999 1 year ago
@Phresh1999 Yea just take a look at your family, your mom was a baboon and your dad a sloth.
egkg75 1 year ago
Of course there is no God, evolution explains everything that primitive people of the past have tried to explain with illusions and mysticism. Now science shouldn't allow for people to remain ignorants any more. Religion has no future, can you imagine 500 years from now that people would be teaching Jesus to aliens? Only deluded fools believe in fairy-tales because they want to live forever.
HellesBringer 1 year ago
But of course the reality is obvious. What do you expect happens when you die? You'll return to the same state you were in before you were born. Big, empty, eternal nothing. You will simply go back into the darkness from which you came, your earthly remains will perish and it will be as if you never existed. Everyone will follow the same fate as we know there is no such thing as a human soul to survive. At least you'll be freeing some vital habitat for the human species.
HellesBringer 1 year ago
no one gives a shit about your religion, to assume that other animals can't be intelligent because god said so is ignorant.
robotron26 1 year ago
@thundag0d
"gorrilas and other primates are just a more primitive version of the human."
That's simply not true. Our similarities are not evidence of them being a primitive version of us, but that we have a common ancestor. All non-human primates are just as evolved as we are.

kekislizarazo 2 years ago 48
@kekislizarazo I think its just the fact that humans feel comfort in seeing others that are similar to them in nature. It is not necessarily that we would want things to be more like us but for us to see that we have things in common with others.
